Football Federation Australia has attracted the ire of A-League club
owners by moving to impose a $250,000 sanction fee on any international
friendly matches the clubs organise against famous overseas teams.
Previously it charged the club 5 per cent of gate takings to sanction other matches.
Club sources say the increased payment, as well as the FFA already holding broadcast rights to the matches, is aimed at deterring clubs from organising their own matches and instead leaving the overseas tours for only the All-Stars, from which the FFA can make up to $1 million a match.

That is lame. The contracts with the FFA must allow for this shit. Really stupid. Will make it harder for us to justify bringing over teams during the offseason and grow the 'Nix and HAL brand. We don't get much benefit from tours to Oz or the All Stars game.
Dumb. I get why the FFA want to keep a virtual monopoly on such games but isn't charging HAL franchises a fee like that just cutting off your nose to spite your face? I thought the FFA wanted financially secure franchises in the A League, not to mention the greater interest in football and the A League that such games can generate. They should be encouraging high profile friendlies, not discouraging them.

Hmmmm I wonder about this.
1: You would think with the amount of work done and the lead in time, at some point, Welnix/Dome would have gone to the FFA and said 'Hey, we are doing this' or the FFA might have gone 'Hey, we heard you are doing this' Its not like its the worlds best kept secret now.
2: If FFA are controlling the TV rights then why is there talk of selling the rights by Dome through other territories and possible PPV on Sky?
They may be looking to enforce this only on games by clubs located in Australia.
Melbourne Victory reportedly made 500k from Liverpool whereas Liverpool made 6-7 mill. I'm sure some teams like Liverpool would be willing to pay the 250k if they can get a return of that much. Teams like Newcastle and West Ham would probably just look elsewhere. This charge and no revenue from playoff games just makes it that much harder for clubs to survive.

A-LEAGUE action will return to Townsville for the first time since the 2011 axing of the North Queensland Fury in August.
The Townsville Bulletin can reveal that the Brisbane Roar, Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets have agreed to terms and will play a round robin pre-season tournament with matches on August 24, 27 and 30 at the Townsville Sports Reserve.
An official announcement is expected to be made later this week.

HUNTER Stadium is set to be resurfaced at a cost of about $1.25 million to ready it as a host venue for 2015 Asian Cup games.

The state government has agreed to kick in $1 million, with the rest of the money to come from the Cup’s Local Organising Committee and government stadium management agency Venues NSW.
The money addresses major concerns that the state of the turf had fallen below the international standards expected of the venue, which will be in the spotlight when it hosts four Cup matches in January.
Sport and Recreation minister Stuart Ayres has secured the cash and says the work will start after the final home game for the Newcastle Knights.
Football Federation Australia has agreed to schedule Newcastle Jets A-League matches as away games until November, to provide the eight-week window needed to get the work done.
So the FFA can schedule away games for Newcastle when their stadium is out of action, but we 'have to' take home games away when ours is? Hmmm.
I can see why though. Hunter Stadium is out of action for the Asian Cup which is probably the most important football tournament ever to take place in Australia.

The biggest concern is how they fill the 5 visa spots and how the FFA treat loans into the club under the new CBA. The previous CBA would be easily rorted by the City group loaning players for minimum wages.
I understand the argument and I see the concern, however on balance surely this is a good thing? Rich committed owners, top quality players, potential global exposure - all good things for the competition as a whole. Much better than having the Heart as they were carrying on I would think.
