Waldron gets another VAR stint
Moyes saved the majority of his ire for Jarred Gillett, the VAR official.
Gillett is an excellent referee.

Imagine if the AWs had beaten CR, and the extra momentum that would given the Nix for this season. Alas.

It has been announced today that Sydney will host the @IsuzuUTE A-League Men’s, @LibFinancial A-League Women’s Grand Final and a number of other football-related events in a three-year deal with @NewSouthWales, beginning in 2023.

This is a terrible idea.
Game in the spotlight, and football at the forefront of the sporting conversation in this part of the world at the minute and they go and do this?
What a waste of all the goodwill that's been built up over the past few weeks.
Horrid idea, but it wont affect us anytime soon. Likely that there will be one of the Sydney teams in the finals for sometime to come anyway.

“When you think about a cup final in England, you think about the trip to Wembley, and we want fans in Australia to look forward to the A-Leagues finals in the same way.”
i wonder if he knows that this only works because england is a lot smaller than australia.
Can’t say clubs weren’t involved, WSW owner Paul Lederer, MCY Vice Chairman Simon Pearce and Victory chairman ADP sit on the APL board they all knew.

Clubs who are on the APL board turned their back and shown contempt to the fans of the league. Shameful. That’s their legacy

I'd assume all the clubs are getting some of the money.

Reported 8 figure sum from the NSW Govt. Lets say $12M or $4M per year for 3 years.
Split between the 12 clubs that's $1M of extra income per club. Yipe wouldn't surprise if Welnix agreed. Be interesting to know.
This sort of stuff is common in Aussie sport, State Govts competing for events and throwing out cash in a bid to host. A bit more common since Covid with Melbourne not being able to host the Grand Final for 1 (or 2 years?) - and every other state then fighting to host the big game. NRL have also sometimes sold Origin games to the highest bidder.

Neither, however it shows the amount of ambition that the club has at the moment. Not that I blame them, but still.
If it’s a permanent idea. It’s fudgeing dumb.
why?
it's not their decision, they probably had not input into the decision.

Hope Sydney Teams or Nix get 1st and 2nd the next three years, there will be no return for their investment. Even if City or Bitumen make the GF, they have no fans.
They could promote the game in many different ways, some good deal, I would fly there watch game, stay a long weekend.

And yet they're affected by it. A statement is warranted given the unrest this has caused.
Cant see a YF statement posted anywhere.
Honestly, the way the Nix have been treating fans lately I'm pretty close to cancelling 2 memberships and pirating the rest of the games instead of attending. I feel like a resource being exploited after maintaining financial support throughout covid, rather than a partner to build with and I'm sure I'm far from the only one.

Why not? They could say we love to play our first Grand Final in Sydney in front of our NSW fanbase. Maybe: We love the extra cash as we historically never made money out of any GF.
Could the club do better? - sure, but then you have to counter that with they reduced staff during COVID to save money and stay afloat, they are now trying to build that staff back up in an asustainable manner when unemployment is at an all time low. The skilled people they need may not be around anymore. Dome is very vocal and verbose on the socials, if you follow him and the club most if not all of the information is there. This decision by the APL board impacts the Nix positiviely in that we get $1m for 3 years in the pocket. If we reach the finals series during this time and we've earned top spot then suire it negatively impacts us the fans as we dont get a home final - be realistic here - is that likely to occur???
I understand why the Melbourne fans are unhappy, they have 3 clubs that have won the league are always involved in the finals series. Them walking out in protest makes sense. The rest not so much.
