General A-League discussion
Or do you guys like saying "up the p0rt" as a joke, because of the penetrative connotations?
Edit: fudge, got autocorrected. I didn't mean to say "Wellington is the home of football" has penetrative connotations.
The arrival of Auckland FC is going to be great for football in NZ. I think the majority of Nix fans are eagerly looking forward to the presence at last of a proper derby rival, with promise of large numbers of travelling fans. Those two games per season should be huge and good fun.
But I hope for the Black Knights sake, 'Up. The Port.' doesn't stick as a catch cry. Seems a bit of a contrived crusade by 1-2 of their fans on their FB page. Hopefully over time organically they get a Yellow Fever type fan group, that come up with better material than that. Stuff that makes you say yipe that identifies the 09.

Supporters groups usually are the ones doing the cheering on, not the ones needing to BE cheered on!
But saying "this name is cringe" without suggesting an alternative that becomes more popular is self-defeating. This is what always happens with name debates - if you don't want to waste weeks or months, you've just got to run with whatever gets traction first.
Anyway, I've warmed to "The Port" since someone on Facebook opposed it because it sounded like a reference to wharfies and was therefore too communist (notwithstanding that an actual left-wing active support group is forming!)

Why do we need to suggest an alternative name? I'm pretty sure some have already in other threads but also we're mostly Nix supporters so why should we?
They can do what they want and we can say it's shark. That's fine imo.
Vague coherency and enough people getting into them is all they really need.
The test will be the preseason games and then the first game they play.
It's Aucklover.
It's never been more Aucklover than it is now.

Who knows, one of these lads could be the future star of Auckland FC.
Auckland is FULL of homegrown talent and we can't wait to get amongst all the clubs.

Yas! Wellington is the home of football. Nix!
I think AFC's fans should play on Jafa or '09 (what ever that means).

Assuming the Glory have drawn the short straw and had a Home game transferred to Sydney for the Unite Round.
The APL is holding a board meeting today and is expected to tell A-Leagues clubs their central distributions for next season. Hearing it could be under $1m. @AAPSport https://t.co/SMhYGzQqCv

Club sources have indicated they expect to receive between $800,000 and $1 million from head office for next season.
APL board meeting this morning is expected to confirm A-League club distributions will go down to approximately $500k. From a historical high of over $3m. Independence was supposed to unlock 'rivers of gold' but it has been reduced to barely a trickle.

Sad. As a ex ref myself and an aircraft engineer by trade, nothing more "anorak" then plane spotting. He's way too young for that old man BS.
