I agree.
It is a pity, because if he was not such an animal, he is not a bad player.
I reckon that he will not return this season and will retire.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

lol I'm just playing, I have no idea what he's like; but I know what you mean - I'd hate his guts if he didn't play for us, but even so, what I witnessed last night was a disgrace. And then to carry on at the ref afterwards, completely unacceptable.

Yep. In 6 months when he's retired this will all be forgotten by Foxsports and we'll be subjected to Kev in a suit looking oh-so-respectable, delivering mealy mouthed censure of cheating and brutality.

With the likes of Trimboli, Slater, Rudan and maybe Muscat I'm just going to have to watch with the sound down.

My word.

Some of the tackles Vinny has done have been absolutely horrible - his tackling style reminds me of Muscat's at times, no doubt. He certainly isn't as malicious as Muscat though, and that is the difference.

And what channel does Trimbo watch when he is 'commentating' - "Very lucky not to get hurt in that exchange !!"  Excuse Me ? Exchange ? The only thing Zahra gave in return was another notch in musc**t's belt.

He's got to go. ...and Muscat too...

Muscat and Lia are both thuggish, but Muscat is definitely worse.
Lia has never purposely injured someone, but no one can say the same for Muscat!

Muscat was branded a lowlife and a nobody by ex-England striker Ian Wright, then of Nottingham Forest, in September 1999. Wright claimed he was about to shoot when he heard Dougie Freedman, Forest's other striker, shout "leave it". Wright stepped over the ball to allow Freedman to hit it, but instead Muscat (who had, according to Wright, merely impersonated Freedman) appeared to clear the ball.[11]

Muscat was dubbed the "most hated man in football" by then Birmingham City player Martin Grainger in 2000.[12] He seriously injured both Craig Bellamy and Christophe Dugarry, the latter in a friendly international between Australia and France in 2001 with a sliding tackle from behind.[12] The French manager Roger Lemerre dubbed the tackle "an act of brutality".[12][13] There was speculation that Muscats temperament was the reason he was never selected for inclusion in an Old Firm encounter during the season he was at Rangers.[14]

In 2004, a lawsuit on Muscat brought by former Charlton player Matty Holmes resulted in a settlement of 250,000 plus costs in favour of Holmes, bringing the estimated settlement to around 750,000. Holmes had to have four operations on his leg following a tackle by Muscat in 1998, and there were initial fears that his leg might have to be amputated. The claim was settled at the High Court without any admission of liability.[15][16] In a Carling Cup tie while at Millwall, he grabbed the throat of Perennial strugglers Liverpool striker Milan Baros.[17] Also in 2004, Iwan Roberts admitted he deliberately stamped on Muscat in a match against Norwich City in revenge for his attempt to injure Craig Bellamy in 1999. Roberts was subsequently fined and suspended by the FA for his comments.[18][19]

In December 2005, he was the first A-League player to appear before a FFA disciplinary hearing and was subsequently suspended for two matches for "violent conduct".[20] At an A-league game in October 2006 Muscat clashed with then Adelaide United coach John Kosmina, knocking Kosmina from his chair while retrieving the ball. Kosmina responded by grabbing Muscat by the throat, an action for which Kosmina was suspended for four matches.[21][22]

Muscat's dominant personality and aggressive style has equally won him admirers and detractors in the A-League, with former England international Terry Butcher stating "Every manager in the A-League would love to have Kevin, and I'm no exception".[23]

On October 11, 2010, Aston villa winger Ashley Young revealed he was threatened by Muscat during his first professional match as an 18 year old. Young told the media "I remember my first game for Watford. When I came on, Kevin Muscat's first words to me were 'don't go past me or I will break your legs'.[24] This is despite the fact that by the time Young had been substituted in, Muscat had already been sent off.[25] However, it has been found that this was said by Muscat when he jogged past Young in the warm-up.

In summing up, Muscat is a C*NT!!!

I must say, it took a disgrace of a challenge from Kevin Muscat to alert the Australian sporting media to the fact that the only true Derby match actually took place last night. Seems they discovered something else happening in Melbourne that wasn't tennis!

Victory's next coach...

MELBOURNE Victory captain Kevin Muscat has issued an unreserved apology to Adrian Zahra for the 'mistimed' tackle that has ended the Heart youngster's season.

And the veteran former Socceroo also admitted that perhaps the fact that he got the tackle so badly wrong could be an indication that it's time for him to consider retirement.

Zahra will undergo scans on his right knee on Sunday afternoon as a result of Muscat's horrific, two-footed tackle as the winger was charging forward in the final 15 minutes of Saturday night's derby at Etihad Stadium, which finished all square at 2-2.

The 20-year-old was completely upended as instead of reaching the ball Muscat's legs ended up wrapped around Zahra's right leg and sent him cart-wheeling before coming writhing around in agony as Muscat was given a straight red card by referee Chris Beath.

Amid fears Zahra may have sustained damage to the anterior cruciate ligament, Muscat has been widely condemned for the incident and after enduring a 'sleepless night' he spoke on Sunday afternoon and insisted his only concern at present is for Zahra's welfare.

"Firstly having had a sleepless night myself I felt it was important that I did front up and accept everything that is going to be coming my way in relation to bans ... and also being criticised (over) my character, my performance (and) all that comes with it," Muscat said.

"I'm going to have to sit here and accept full responsibility for it. But as you could understand my No.1 concern, my only concern as a matter of fact, is the welfare of Adrian.

"It was an incident that I deeply regret, it was a mistimed tackle, dreadfully mistimed, (and) at no point did I have any intent to injure the player.

"But as I said my only concern is the welfare of Adrian, I wish him a speedy recovery, and in the next couple of days I'll take the opportunity to try and contact him and pass on my sentiments if he'll accept them."

Having given little 'thought' to exactly how lengthy his suspension could be, with some including his former Socceroos team-mate Mark Bosnich calling for him to be outed until Zahra is fit to return to the field, Muscat admitted the incident has hurt him more than any other in a brutal career.

Seven years ago he was forced to settle legal action after former Charlton player Matty Holmes sued him for $6 million over a tackle that left him with a badly broken leg, Holmes eventually receiving $600,000 in damages as well as his legal costs which were paid for by Muscat's insurers.

"Yeah I think so," he added when asked if he regrets this tackle more than any other in his playing days.

"As I said last night was a difficult night for us but I think it was important that the first thing I did was I rang the club and said 'Look I really need to do something about this' and as I said the tackle was very, very late and the whole incident is regrettable.

"Throughout my career I've played the game on the edge and I've never really thought of trying to hide away from the fact that that happens but I think my main focus at the moment is not what's happened over the last couple of decades it's about what happened last night and that's where my concern lies."

Muscat also conceded, when asked to try and explain why the tackle had been so badly mistimed, that it could be time for him to think about hanging up his boots even if he hasn't give it any thought overnight.

"I haven't had a chance to even contemplate it or think about it," Muscat said of retirement talk.

"As I said, people are going to have their opinions in what should happen and what they want to happen.

"At this point in time I haven't had the chance to really give it any serious consideration.

"Unfortunately I mistimed a tackle terribly, and maybe the game is telling me that it's passed me by, but I haven't given it any thought."

While conceding that the tackle was poor and that the club doesn't 'condone' such incidents, Victory coach Ernie Merrick was quick to leap to Muscat's defence.

"But I'd like to point out that in our six seasons we've been a team that's all about playing football and playing good quality football," Merrick said.

"We've won a couple of premierships and championships in playing good football and Kevin's been a part of that, he's been a true professional with the club and so I'm hoping that he doesn't retire after an incident like that.

"He's given so much to us and he certainly regrets it but I'm hoping the young boy's fine. It's certainly not our style of play as you know."

Luckily for Brenbner it's over-shadowed his disgraceful hit on SKoko, and lucky for Allsopp they've both over-shadowed his elbow as well.

Cant wait for the outcome of the Match Review Committee meeting this week. Should be quite a laugh!

My money is on Muscat getting 3 weeks making available for the Finals. There's no way they will end his career like that when he has been one of the little darlings of the FFA for the past 5 Seasons!

Very good point. The FFA should be cracking down on such appauling, unsportsmanlike behaviour and repeat offenders should incur longer penalties in my opinion!

Spot  on. We have no evidence from previous convenings of the MRC to suggest otherwise Mr News

about the MRC. how does it work? Do the Heart have to 'apply' for certain episodes to be reviewed (i.e. Muscat's push on the wall, Allsopp's elbow etc)?

And re: Muscat, his foul didn't escape the ref's attention so is it MRC material? Or would they decide on the length of the ban?

Nope, the panel just looks at it and decides what to review. With all the uproar around Muscat, they may get away with ignoring Brebner, Allsop and Reddy's offences given their history.
