Wanted to post this somewhere but surprisingly we don't have a Pennington thread.

Although Pennington may be under appreciated by the “fans” and not have his own thread until now, statistically speaking Pennington is the most posted about player on the forum, with an unmatched “This” completion percentage. For this reason I believe Pennington should start.

For this reason I believe Pennington should have a page - finally!

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Come on Nic

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Where does he hang out? I need to run into him and have a chat. Very curious to hear what I imagine as a Roman/Sardinian/Aussie accent!

Has he spent much time in Australia though?
I'd expect his accent to be pure Italian.

I don't think so. But one of his parent is Aussie...and I'd imagine they would have spoken English to him as he grew up so who knows. That's why I really want to meet him! He probably feels a bit home sick too!

Libby's old man probably looking after him out there in Petone!

He's been interviewed on TV after a game before and his accent is very weird.

Weird enough that they had to put subtitles on his interview 🤣🤣

Wow...neat! His English is certainly above average for an Italian and I think the subtitles were not needed to be honest. Couldn't really detect a Sardinian accent either. To me it was fairly neutral. Very cool

You guys probably all noticed this but I just thought of it:
Pennington has scored 2 competitive goals for the club. Both were the only times Chiefy was head man on the bench.
He couldn't score with Talay as head man on the bench.

And he scored in the competitive reserve match again without Talay.

I reckon Chiefy is using him higher up the pitch. Uffie had Lewis further up for instance.

10 times Pennington sole DM(2022): 6 wins

10 starts this season: 6 wins

Coincidence or a pattern?

Before anyone says anything. I'm not saying that anything is because of Pennington, I'm just looking at the results.

I'm still not convinced that you aren't Pennington, in disguise, Kungfu Panda..

I'm not big into defenders because I know how they get their academy places. But Finn Surman may have a better PPG than Pennington over more than 20 games. They've both played most of their games together though, so I'm guessing that it's very similar.

Pennington + Surman together (both starting) over 2 seasons and 19 games:  38 points. Exactly 2 PPG

If that continues then 54 points this season.

Please: I'm just playing with numbers. I'm not suggesting 1 player is more important or better than another. We have an amazing and an exciting team. I love all of them (in a manly way), and I expect to win the league.

NB without Pennington/Surman starting together over the 3 seasons it's been 55 points from 43 games: 1.28 ppg (34.5 points for this season)

This is why I rate Yellow Fever portal so highly for spiritual nourishment. The only place for esoteric data, obscure stats, and Pennington adoration (now with more Surman).

Huge loss, was an unsung hero last season.

Arrivederci Nico. Can see Conchie being anointed scapegoat status. Always seems to be a midfielder.

Though if the Nix repeat last season there is no need to have a scapegoat. And yeah Pennington won over many Nix fans last season. How will Kungfu Panda cope.
19 Jun 07:49
Anyone heard from kungfu panda?

Jokes aside, I get the feeling we're really going to miss him. Hopefully Conchie and other academy kids can step up but I felt last season was his best in a Nix shirt.
19 Jun 09:02
Al Taay was good last year. A chance for him or Conchie to step up.

Will we see a tactical tweak or 2?
19 Jun 09:06
The streets won't forget that final second of extra time goal against Perth to win the match for us a couple of season ago.

Good luck fella! Glad we were the club to help bring out the best in ya!

Obviously very disappointed. I don't think that Nico ever got the credit he deserved. I totally believe in the stats that I threw at you guys and I think that he'll be extremely difficult to replace. Time will tell.

By the way, I only think that we didn't win the premiers because of Pennington's untimely injury against Western United which really cost us around 8 games without a fully effective Pennington. During the games he was actually out our PPG dipped to 1.7 from 2.1 (and that was lucky, thinking about the 3 points away against Macarthur). I know that a lot of you guys think these things are BS, but I don't,  I've been watching football including as a scout and as a kid on my father's knee now for 65 years. The stats were very unusual, the ppg, the mini cup runs, the Duels won. There's never been a player so underrated.

Don’t worry KP.
I’m sure you can find some other player most of the forum don’t like with good stats whose cause you can champion next season.

Yes but ideally he needs to have an Italian background like KP & Nico P.

Yes but ideally he needs to have an Italian background like KP & Nico P.

And he was following him pre-Phoenix, so unlikely a player of Australian background in Italy who is prepared to come to Aussie who KP has been following since he lived in Italy…

But considering how Pennington went if there is perhaps drop Chief a line KP!

Why is this thread in Wellington Phoenix Men

Because until June 30 when his contract expires he is technically a Wellington Phoenix player.

Yes. Let's get Cristian Volpato. He's probably just out of our league but you never know.
