Hmmm... I think its pretty cool. Its a more diverse way to expand the A-league. I love the Idea of having three countries involved in the A-league

It confirms their ambition to grow in the Pacific. Instead of giving the Nix the boot. Sounds like FIFA could be keen on it as well. Even if this one never gets off the ground its a positive sign.

Let's make this clear.  It is a proposed new side, not a " new A-League team coming in 2011/12".

Didn't watch the video (have 1% of bandwidth that's meant to get me through a day).  Can anyone give me a basic rundown?

I remember there was talk about this about a year ago and while at first it sounds good there are so very many hurdles for them to overcome it probably won't be feasible.  Having said that, if it ever got going they'd be my second team.

1) Karembeu wants to coach an A-League side based in New Caledonia.

2) There has been small talk between FFA and Karembeu + Oceania's 11 partys involed.

3) Will be funded buy Euro based mining company (Which has mines in New Caledonia) and also funded buy other 3rd party companys (from Euro) and has the backing of the French football fed(what ever its called).

Interesting although the Phoenix have to be allowed to stay first. There are alot of good Island players from New Caledonia that are unknown (Wajoka, Hmae brothers spring to mind) and of course alot of players in the NZFC. It would be very good if this happened I think.

I see that you are still in denial of what has been the FFA planning along. FFA wants to have a larger fan based for the A-league and upheld their promise to OFC for switching over to AFC. This has been talked about by commentors and FFA a number of times since A-League started. Its just a matter of time.

Their national teams will play AFC nations and their clubs will expand into the untapped player potential in the pacific. And because of the import player rule by AFC, then the only real way is to have offshore clubs participation by invitation like the NZ Knights/Wellington Phoenix. Increase their "global" presence of the club game and attract extra sponsorship, marketing A-league and breaking it into the top ten leagues of the world. It's not enough to have the league in Australia only, it needs different taste and favours.

So cautious . . . . but this has been talked about for a long time and now there is some structure starting to set in place. Now it is a matter of drafting a solid plan for the club and submitting one with great backing and the number crunching in the proposal to FFA. When they are ready, it will come out very quickly with the mainstream media.

Solomon Islands. He would easily make the squad though.

Are there many commercial flights between Oz and New Caledonia?

There would have to be a direct flight from two out of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane for it to be viable.

I really like it BUT wit AFC's stance on the Phoenix, surely FFA would struggle to get them in and think about all the whining from the Aussies who don't like us being in the A-League.

I also feel that there are probably not enough quality OFC players for the squad (as yet) so this could be a good chance for Kiwis on the peripheral ala Scott, Barron etc to make the step up to pro level.

I think you would be surprised, although they wouldn't be a top side they would be very capable of scoring goals, defending would be what they lacked in.

MBH has said he just wont allow the Nix's a shot at the ACL if they make it. Under there current contract with the FFA it states "No ACL". So this license agrement there waiting on is what i feel a "We can play ACL" not "Are we still in the league from 2011 onwards". It would be the same with a OFC  New Caledonia based team.

Like yourself I am aware of the raw talent but its a significant step up from the level most play at (barring the best who seem to end up in France or the average, NZ).

Even Reynald Temarii says the OFC aint going nowhere.

What a year it has been for us. When Australia decided, with our support, to leave OFC and join the Asian Football Confederation back in 2006, most members of the FIFA Executive Committee said there would be no future for Oceania. This was perhaps my biggest challenge as President since being elected in 2004.

Through hard work and commitment since that time, it is clear now that the situation is perfect for Oceania. We are enjoying greater representation at FIFA events than ever before and have seen a string of good results including qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup by New Zealand, progress to the second round of the FIFA U-17 World Cup by New Zealand and a victory by the Solomon Islands at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup over Uruguay one of the fifth best teams in the world.

Interesting comments. I'm surprisedhe brought up this comment also, which made news heer at the time.

"The President outlined he would be standing for re-election in 2011 and that, if he is re-elected and has the support of the OFC Executive Committee, the focus from that time will be to provide greater assistance to those member associations with the strongest performances on the field. He also stressed the importance of building future partnerships such as the AUD$4 million agreement between OFC and the Australian Government for grassroots development which was signed at the Pacific Leaders Forum in August this year."

Just seen the new little interview on TWG today with MBH saying again that Wellington Nixs  have no chance at gaining ACL entery untill it is a fully fledge Aussie side(Australian owned + Ran etc), And thats not gonna happen so Nix's for A-League forever but no ACL what-so-ever.

Also on the Oceanian's 11 A-League side/bid,  Karembeu was talking on "Pacific Beat Today" Radio where he said FIFA and the OFC have given early guarantee, For them to participate in the O-League.

NZFC wont have a bar of it from what i have read trolling these forums. I think they said yes then complained to FIFA and then it was a NO (Some one can correct me if its otherway around or wrong). I think there is to much hate and jealousy with NZFC and Nixs when it comes to money.

Karembeu said the O-League decision was agreed apon buy all 10 island members that share the same views of moving football forward.

Good on them for getting that sorted.  I hate supporting football in NZ, it's nothing but heartbreak and frustration.  Who'd have thought an Island team would be able to sort it out for themselves but not us aye?

The worst thing is that if they get the O League spot AKL and Waitak can kiss goodbye to the pot of Gold at the end of the OFC Champions League rainbow.

They either need to step up or step out, Again when i trolled these forums looking at old post's about this, The NZFC teams agreed to let the Nixs play-off for one of the NZ spots for O-League.
Then i read the Nixs got a big fat NO from FIFA because its an Australian club?? go figger.

Where as Oceanian's 11(will be)  a true OFC team, Not just a A-League side residing in New Caledonia or another country as is the case with the Nixs.
They would follow a simular rule of 3+1  (3 imports from france etc and 1 Asian) with the rest being island players. They will be reg as OFC players not Reg as Australians.

Its not the OFC fault if NZFC crys about it, OFC want to move forward not backwards, Something NZFC should think about.

Heres the updated video of the OFC bid and MBH saying No to ACL for Nix's.

What did M. Bin Douchebag say at the end?  The narrator said he had a more concilitory (sp?) view on the mighty Phoenix but I couldn't understand him and when I went to rewind it at the end it skipped to the next video.  So I went back to looking at this video and I couldn't skip to where I wanted so I gave up.

I think you would be surprised, although they wouldn't be a top side they would be very capable of scoring goals, defending would be what they lacked in.

With the proposed financial backing and support from the French, I'm willing to bet there would be room for a few quality imports. Who's to say they couldn't buy a Brazilian like other A-league clubs? Id bet they would have access to some really good French players also.
They would have good consistent crowds also as Footballs the big game in NC.
Although AFC are bound to say 'no way'.
