Could this be an early sign of belt tightening around the league with the new reduced money?

Well a quick search tells me the City Group are now involved in 13 clubs across the world. So plenty of options if their pathways are to be believed.

Manchester City in the UK, New York City FC in the US, Melbourne FC in Australia, Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, Montevideo City Torque in Uruguay, Girona in Spain, Sichuan Jiuniu FC in China, Mumbai City FC in India, Lommel SK in Belgium, ESTAC in France, Palermo FC in Italy, Bahia SAF in Brazil and partner Club, Club Bolivar.

Yokohama F. Marinos are coached by Harry Kewell (previously Ange Post & Kevin Muscat) and Cacace has been linked to Palmero FC

This reeks of belt-tightening, not exactly a typical bling FC signing. Most recently had 5 appearances in the Moldovan league

His CV reads like Sarpreet Singh's would to people if he was an unknown visa, so I wouldn't write the guy off based on that. This is the first visa Uffie has signed without Chief helping, so we wait and see if its a hit or miss.

I'll be impressed if they can rebuild from this once more.

To not get a fee for him though will be a pretty tough pill to swallow.

oh absolutely not writing him off, CVs often don't translate to output in our league. Was more about how Sydney have often gone after known names (Alf, Narsingh, de Jong, Rodwell, Mak). But then again they brought in those two random Brazilians last year, so maybe I'm talking out of my arse 😂

Definitely goes against their model, they'll be hurting at losing him and getting nothing for him.

They got I think $2M for winning the AFC Cup plus are in the new cashed up Elite AFC Champions League

Sure playing in Asia also comes with expenses, but the Mariners will be okay financially. Some other clubs we wait and see.

Where CCM may struggle is juggling midweek AFC CL games (pool stage Sept to Feb next year) with ALM matches.

The AFC CL teams (Japan, Sth Korea, China) will be several levels above the mostly AFC Cup minnows they played last season on their way to winning that comp.

No news on where Nisbett is off to.

He came on heaps in the last 24 months. Prior to that, I thought he was lucky to have a gig.

yep, he was with them for 7 years. For him to leave on a free is pretty bad.

Nfi what to think of that City signing, most of his games played are in the Russian 2nd tier. He will at least be used to lots of travel.

i know we've used import slots on Krishna, Riera, and Smith (but Krishna and Smith were injury replacements and there wasn't much available, Riera absolutely dominated us in a friendly) so we can't talk, but it's interesting that Perth has spent an import slot on an NPL player. Definitely a change in direction from the big spending Sage era, is it a sign of the tough times in the league or have Perth unearthed a gem?

He's 27 and his highest league was j3 or NPL, I don't know which is higher. By all accounts he's done well in the NPL though.

No sure the sauce of this, but FBK is quite open about his dealings on podcasts tho. He has become a pretty big agent in the A-League scene since retiring it seems.

For anyone bemoaning the fee for Surman (which turned out to be a healthy million plus) spare a thought for Newcastle Jets fans who have just seen their Australia-capped, 25-year-old, 17-goal last season striker leave for just $500K. Ouch.
