Losing Smeltz isn't the end of the world.
Man U supporters thought that when Beckham left, but some one else filled his boots.
Same again when Van Nistelroy left.
Same will happen when C Ronaldo eventually goes to Madrid.
We aren't Man U, granted, but the principles are still the same.

Re Smeltzy being our saviour, he may yet still prove to be a 1.5 season wonder, and he's perhaps no more than just the good apple in a bad bunch.

Life will go on, I just hope that the Phoenix will turn their season around while we still have his services so we can attract players from a position of relative strength as opposed to perenial wooden spooners.

Oh Smeltzy's wife's a slapper
She loves the sun and surf
He said he'd sign for Phoenix
She said I'd rather Perth

He loved the Yellow Fever
But she loves being tanned
And now down at the ring of fire
Smeltzy's f*cking banned

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Do you actually hate the guy, or the media focus on him which he hardly asked for, and it seems to me tolerate only because he knows it would be stupid to do otherwise?

Leave Smeltz on the bench, we need to build for next season and give some of the younger guys a chance. Be realistic, we aint going to make the top four this year, we need to build for the future.

I just think he is horrendously overrated, hes is number one at free kicks and crosses (absolutely unbelievably good), but to me, not that special at anything else.

I think he chases the money and the attention.

I just don't understand everyones love for him, so he may be "pretty" that surely wouldnt make me pay $100 to go see him...the more people have liked him the more I have disliked him...can't really explain it...

...You know when you see someone and you think, that's one of those faces I would love to punch.....two people do that to me...David Beckham and John Campbell

To attract players we need to finish better that last, so leaving him on the bench would be counter productive in that sense.

I would be more worried about the existing clubs and not the new ones making the "raids" on to the Phoenix players...
May be Costa could be the next one to go...???

Not sure.  But I'm confident that's not a decision I'll be faced with.

It's okay, News, being a pedant is fine if you've got nothing better to do.

I blame Terry S. He was quoted as saying... "the Phoenix had already begun scouting to find top-notch players for the 2010/11 season" and I immediately thought "next season".

Unless of course it's all part of a cunning plan and next season has been cancelled through lack of interest.

But if next season is cancelled, why not do the job properly? Why not cancel the rest of this season as well. Then Ricki and co will have more time to devote to finding these great players who are going to turn our team around. And around, and around, and around, etc.

Much like a bunch of headless chooks, running around in circles, which is the way we're playing at the moment.

If you didn't laugh, you'd...

Not sure who had a crack, but these decisions aren't always made by the player.
Steve Price is a great example. There was no way he was going to go to Auckland because his wife was dead set against coming to NZ. What did the Warriors do? They flew her across and wined and dined her at the best places possible and worked entirely on selling Auckland to her. Price signed the next week.
Clearly Shane's decision isn't just his and not entirely football based. Fair enough

I'm with these guys too .I'm not happy to see Smeltz going, Sure I'm upset  but if the guy has to make a decision thats the best thing for his family and his future then good luck to him!

Thanks for the brilliant moments we've had when you have scored, Shane Smeltz.
There's still plenty more to play for this year Give it heaps so you go out on a high..

You probably won't be looking forward to the big "Who are Ya!!!" reception we'll be giving you when you step out in the RoF  for the first time in "the wrong  kit" but that comes with the new territory you're heading into I guess!!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

A question with no answer, and one that requires a pretty negative mindset to consider.
