I'm not excusing Barbiero for his massive idiocy, but it's clear that Bridge could easily have kept his feet. He only went to ground after Barbiero let him go. Then the hypocrisy of him leaping to his feet and shaking the imaginary card at the ref. Hate that sort of thing.

The Siggy you think should be dropped for McKain?

Jamieson -> Christiano again.

Turns out I don't even need to bet on a result at the TAB to kill a team.  I just need to tell others to.  That could have saved me a fortune over the years.

Like I said in that thread i'd probably have McKain in there based on his Melbourne performance alone - Dura and him finally looked like they clicked. Based on the All Whites performance I would have Siggy though - it's a tough choice.

There's no obligation for a striker to stay on their feet and there shouldn't be as far as I'm concerned.  Defenders get far too much leeway, suddenly this is all about Bridge - he was the one that was fouled!

Another goalkeeping howler. If only we could get a slice of that sort of luck.

No, we accepted the Barbiero situation as it occured and that was dealt with.  The problem is Bridge's behaviour wasn't dealt with and like a coillection of A-League forwards who consistantly behave this way it wil be ignored.

so 2 zip to the ten men?

HN - if that's the case re: Farina then I think things are getting a bit out of whack.  That's not to suggest that players shouldn't behave well but if you start getting into treating them differently than other members of society and trying to hold them up to a higher standard, all that's going to lead to is more and more incidents, because sportsmen are just normal people and over time that means they will do things that normal people do, and that means they will f**k up.

Dribnk driving isn't good, no doubt about that.  But people drink and drive all the time, and the get caught and they do their time and they carry on working.  He didn't hurt anyone.  I'd be pi$$ed off if I was him

Differneet if you are done twice, have been involved in another unsavoury incident AND manage to have it and your employer spread all across the major national papers.

Again though what is the actual issue with it?  Players question the referee all the time. You say it's disrespectful to your fellow pro - well in my mind so is dishonestly taking him down when he's through on goal.  But you do it because you ahve to to get the points, and that's exactly what Bridge is doing, making sure that the referee makes the correct decision

Anyway, each to their own, difference of opinion writes headlines and all that

So if you turned up to work drunk your employer would be fine with it? It wasn't his first offence, either.

I just think that the higher you set your standards the more likely they're going to be broken.  This idea that every time someone stuffs up they need to pay homage and apologise to, in no particular order, the fans, their family, the club and the sponsors.  Unless it's really bad I think it should be handled internally

Aloisi on.. warm welcome from Adelaide crowd..not.
Bridge another sneaky tackle that the ref didn't see.
Half expected Brosque to sprawl in the goal mouth then as he missed that cross.

If every high flying busness man who got done drink driving lost their job it would be a very round about work force!  I dunno, it's one of those things.  Shouldn't happen but does.  I wonder whether the FFA would be as strict on their own employees if it wasn't comething that would get in the media

But that isn't dishonest, it's blatant.  A dive or asking for a referee to take action with the patronising waving of a fake card is completely different.  It's trying to influence a decision, not to influence play.

The foul influences the match but is an honest (although not legal) action.

Almost certainly not, nor would the NRL, but when half the media funds the NRL they will dive on to something like this to take the heat away from League players in seconds.

See I don't consider bringing down someone who is clear through on goal honest, so maybe that's where we differ.  Just because it's blatant doesn't make it any more or less honest in my mind

Wasn't that Farina's last incident public before the management could do anything? Surely as a manager of an A-League team your conduct has to be exemplary anyway. You are in a position of responsibilty, in the public eye constantly and as mentioned before the public eye is sharply focused on all codes in Aussie now.

He has history though.

The other Farina incidents recently have been a deplorable disciplinary record, including getting sent of against us, and Kick-A-Kruse night.

Ref Delovsky not popular with Adelaide crowd after the time wasting yellow card to Adelaide keeper.

Yet he keeps missing apparent fouls on Adelaide players.

Aloisi simple goal after great initial save by keeper   Adelaide 2-1 Sydney

It's an unforgiving place at the moment Australian sport.

I think the NRL have got it all wrong with their whiter than white attitude though, the more incidents people are dragegd over the coals for the more incidents are miraculously discovered.  If you make a point that these things, while a pity, aren;t a big deal, then the media and the public don't go looking for it.

What's happening in the match by the way?

Sydney dominant but still vulnerable at the back to the break.

Chances flying in for Sydney.  Aloisi's goal was pretty dire but he celebrated like it was a World Cup winner.

As someone said to me just now inappropriately - If only Seb Ryall had hit that shot as well as he hits the underage totty

The rabid (read dim) members of Adelaide will claim the ref is to blame, the more relaistic will watch the replay and - assuming nothing goes wrong in the last five minutes - will accept he had an excellent game.

Not booking Bridge apart
