i would put mulli up at right midifield, he can make good attacking runs and has a good coross on him, i was right infront of his wing at albany for the aw's second game, his balls were finding players a lot

I think it could be interesting what the back four is.
Siggy should definitely be in there and I think Lochead should be ahead of Muscat even though Lochead isn't at his best.
Durante will be there but if RH wants to play Dodd then he should be at CB.
I thought he was really good at CB in the pre season cup final even though McKain is better.
The thing is though, if Dodd plays it will have to be CB and Mckain can move up to CM or CDM.

I don't mind the option of McKain as a central midfielder with Dodd dropping back. Worth a go?

Think Ferrante needs to be in midfield if he's gunna play well. When he's at his best he is central to everything. Really not sure about the whole moving Mckain thing up, sure he looks like he's got a bit more technique than Dodd but I'm not convinced thats all you need...

I agree. Maybe worth a try. McKain himself will know if he can cut it in midfield though.  Has demonstrated good confident ability on the ball, comfortable with it even when tightly marked. Good qualities.

Come on, it's not like he's never played midfield before. Get him in there.

Something has to change, and all options should be considered. I'm sure a lot of people are thinking about the idea of McKain in the middle as a possible option.

Don't mean to be a gloom merchant here but ar'nt all these team speculations just like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Sydney are a side full of quality players...they are unbeaten and in great current form. I think Mr Herbert will be trying to avoid the embarassment of a big spanking and go for a formation and playing style for a 0-0 draw.....and could you really blame him.

I for one would be rapt with a point off Sydney. Playing ugly and scrapping a draw would be fine by me. Just as long as the lads show some ticker and fight all the way. If we get blasted off the park then you will be lucky to get 3000 at the next home game!!!!

I think the result is almost immaterial this week. As you say Zinidane, it's really about whether the team stand up and show some fight or not.

Not playing for a clean sheet again ... can we not go and score some goals for a change?

That's why I loved the Nix last season, let's see it happen again!

We can beat Sydney, they're too cocky and need taking down a peg or two; let's be the ones to do it!

If the players going in for a draw, it wouldn't help their attitude and performance. They know now that a draw would not stop their slump despite it being against Sydney. As Durante said, the benefits of winning against Sydney will drive their confidence up. Which is what they really need. A draw would not restore confidence and the approach for the next game will still be seen in a negative light.

So hopefully a strong crowd turn out will inspire the players to do the deed.

I'd rather see them lose 4-2 having a crack and giving their guts than a repeat of what we've seen in the last few games... they need to prove to us, and each other that they have something between their legs (settle down FM & Smarah) and hopefully between their ears as well...

With a bit of a lift from TS, EO, RH, TS, TP, EB, YF, IVD, EO and perhaps getting off on the right (or left - as applicable) foot and maybe a goal early on... who knows - a bit of confidence and maybe even some luck can do wonders!

How about move Mulligan up to RM? Sigmund can then go to RB and then have Daniel/Gao LM. Didn't Mulligan play RM for AWs against Vanuatu?

No, he played in the centre of midfield. Probably because the AW's played 3-5-2 that game.

Thats the team i'd put out too.

Don't see the point in us playing another striker, as I don't think we have another striker who is good enough. Cov's has been average for me, although last year his epic battles with Popovic were always a great watch

Na, we need more up front and in the box.  Coveney.  One two in the box from a corner.  Really threaten Sydney.  Long lobs to Smeltz wont work when he's heavily marked.

Long lobs rarely work even when there is 2 strikers, so how about we don't play long balls...

With 3 central midfielders I don't see why we have to play long balls.

Don't be so negative, you were matching it with us (melbourne) for the majority of our game, things have just turned a bit to sh*t for the last few weeks, no reason it can't bounce back.

Sydney have had a lot of luck with the draw (Adelaide shagged out after acl game) and calls (Perth game) that have been aiding them, and only just held a Newcastle team that got flogged by us the week before.  With Bertos coming back allowing Daniel to slot in a more central position to control play you've suddenly got a team that could look decent going forward again.  The worst thing you could do is allow Sydney to take control of the game and dictate play, better to go down swinging than hold on and pray things turn out okay.

At the very least that would make it a nix game worth watching.

(P.S. Beat them by five, i wanna be clear top of the ladder again by the end of the weekend).

Totally agree - the players need to step up and show some bottle

I am really fired up for Sunday's game and after the events of the last few days, there is no doubt, the players will be too.

Right from the moment that the boys walk out onto the pitch must show them that the fever are 100% behind them and roar them onto a hard earned victory that will kick start our season.

Mon the Phoenix!

Dear Phoenix

As a long standing loyal fan, I want to ask a favour.  I don't live in Wellington, but get down when I can.  This weekend I'm bringing wife and daughter for their first ever A league game.  Since the franchise started they have put up with having to re-arrange the scial calendar around games, mood swings as team fortunes have ebbed and flowed, and worse.  It would be really great if in return you could this Sunday deliver the performance we know you're capable of.  We'll still luv you regardless though.

p.s.  Miss Pacwarior, age 17, has been given firm instructions about participating in this shirts off silliness.  I'm not sure about the older members of the party, but it would be a quality problem to have.

Yours

Leo sat out a large part of training this morning. Also an injuried Moss wasnt training.

Get up to Newtown 10am tomorrow and you may get a hint of the starting lineup.

Can someone confirm Daylight Savings takes effect this week or not - I don't want to miscalculate the time difference and miss half the game.
