That's the ORIGINAL chequered flag there. Wow.

And that's Corporal Stotton in the Chrlton shirt I think.

We made that flag on the kitchen table at 17 First Avenue Kingsland.

Me, and Will, And Lance and Pox went to North Harbour stadium and stood on the far side of the ground, opposite the main grandstand. Kingz were playing the Glory (I think, although from News' post below I thought I was at the 3 - 3 draw with the Gong, so not sure now), and we were very very vocal. Giving the Glory beans all through the game. One of their players flipped us the bird too...

We had four flags. My chequered one, Will and Lance had horizontal and vertical striped ones respectively and Pox had a vertical half and half silver and black one.

At the end of the first half Mike McIlroy and one other guy (Might have been Stantial) walked around and said "You guys with the flags have gotta come and join us in Bloc 5!"

We said "What's Bloc 5?" (We were uninitiated back then). They explained...

So we went and joined the Bloc.

I am sure I have some photos of the big flag somewhere at home. Will look tonight. I still have the big flag too.

I'd love to know where the banner and shirts ended up.  I know Mr. Gordy had some of them at the drycleaners but that is the last time some of them were seen.

I am sure one game we took a photo of everyone with their Kingz shirts on with their backs to the camera... there were about twenty "5's" lined up...

Mr. Meal, M.O.T.C., Wazza, Fat Bloke, Spirite, BWTCF, etc. Was an awesome photo, but I have lost my copy somewhere.

Somewhere there's video of the day I walked into Ericsson with the big flag for the first time. I've seen it before but not sure where.

Feverish, 2ndBest and Smithy doesn't really compare to Ric Le Rock, Martin Tunnel Rat etc etc.

Has News got Mike of The Castle's contact details?

I have emailed Mr. Meal and suggested he come to Camelot on Sunday.

Anyone else remember the Norwegian day we had when those two blokes from Lyn Olso (i think) came to play for us? The year we were associated with Chelsea.

I remember it well because it was our first win that season after something like 7 straight defeats, and we sang Take On Me lots and i took the viking hat i was given to school the next day still buzzing from the win.

Great memories nevertheless!

Jonesy was 'mercurial'.  In Aus he was always considred to be a better player than Viduka but without the motivation to become a professional player.

I recorded what I hope will be excellent chats with Harry Ngata and Chris Turner yesterday. And some interesting thoughts from BWTCF and Milts.

Still plenty more to do, but a good start.

There was also an interesting chat with Nola. He didn't want to go on camera, caliming a shocking memory ("I struggle to remember what happened last weekend") and a tendancy to blank in front of cameras.

Makes me wonder how strong the Croatian Mafia Kiwitea Street chapter really is...

It was quite warm at North Harbour Stadium. We got sunburnt. Nola was in a white woolen Central Beanie and a thick Yellow Central tracksuit top. He said he was feeling the heat a bit. By the mid second half he had relented and was without his beanie or his Yellow top.

" Omerta " a foreign concept to you ?

Probably just following Brother Key 's example ....

over 11 years ago · edited over 11 years ago · History

No, not a foreign concept at all. I get it.

We (Nola and I) talked about how how people feel disloacted when they lose a club they are passionate about.

I know I felt aggreived when the Knights sent letters to the Kingz season ticket holders worded just assuming that as Kingz fans they would want to be Knights fans. I was hurting having lost the Kingz, and was relatively put off by that assumption.

We also talked about discussions I have had recently with Phoenix fans in Wellington who were not part of the Kingz/Knights, and how they have said this thread has made them think about how they would feel if the Phoenix relocated to Auckland. The consensus is they would be bitter, and would possibly focus on Team Wellington instead as a natural response.

We also talked about how feelings at Kiwitea Street (in particular - I used to be a regular when I lived in Kingsland) were not universal... there was a spectrum. And we agreed that that too is natural.

It was good to catch up with an old mate.

Interesting that Aucklanders feel like the Phoenix are an Auckland team relocated to Wellington.  To me, there is no connection at all between the 2 outfits
