Any way of getting archived TV footage from Miles Davis and Martin Devlin's old TV show The House of Football. They were heavily involved with Kingz stories at the time.

That footage of the match away to South Melbourne was fantastic - that bit where Shane Rufer says something to the team on the bus while travelling (late) to the ground like "we are like violin players....we will go to the ground with our violin cases.....and we will open up those cases, and in there will be machine guns. And we will take out those machine guns and mow every one of them down!". Something like that. Brilliant stuff. Kingz win.

Davis was a nice friendly guy, but neither of them were in the main areas much. I don't know if Devlin really is a football fan in the truest sense of the word. I remember he always used to call the UEFA Cup the "Yoofa" Cup on Radio Sport - he always struck me as someone who came late into football and was scrambling to attain (and show off) knowledge. Which isn't a good or bad thing, just a thing. I think Davis came into the Bloc a handful of times, but I don't recall Devlin ever doing it. If he did, I'm sure he had a camera with him

They did a lot of good with HoF, could have been better, but better than nothing. The ASBP highlights package is the superior product I reckon.

Where is HN in that team photo? Was he the goalie back then? Certainly lost a lot of weight since.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I remember Michael Utting being sent up to stand in the Bloc, mustve been a game when he was suspended or injured or something. He didn't look very happy!

Just to make a couple of things clear - Milts didn't just "leave", he emigrated to Saudi or the UAE or somewhere. If he could have made it back for a game, he would have. Top guy Milts, and loves his NZ football - anyone who has watched the videos he produced would attest to that (Dunedin Tech Season Review, and I think there was a championship season review too?).

Great posts - makes me wish I had been there (despite being anti the idea, I have the Sitter issue with my article arguing against joining the NSL somewhere!). But I left NZ at the beginning of 99 and only saw the Kingz once, when they played Marconi Stallions at the cake tin, an awful game but Wynton Rufer showed how good he was with a stunning 35 yard volley, made my pal from the UK realise I wasn't just spinning a yarn when I told him Rufer was one of the greatest in the world.

Milts is still doing the videos - I think he's the one behind the 82 and all that film which looks great, hopefully he can get the money he needs to get it published.

Hah, that Kingz advert is amazing - compared to the low-fi no-fund stuff they did for the ASB.

That game was amazing - Adam Highfield was outstanding in goal - he far outshone Jess van Stratten (Aussie goalie), who was with Juventus at the time. I always thought Highfield, on that performance, was one of the best goalies I've ever seen - not sure why he didn't make it......luck/attitude/desire?

I clicked on the South Melbourne match, thinking "oh, did we win that one?" No, no we didn't.......that 6th goal from the Hellas - what a peach. And how shark was Cuello?

My memory tells me that the match v. Melbourne Knights, 8/12/00 was a goodie? Wasn't that the one where FdJ interviews Wynton after the match, and Wynton says something along the lines of "I don't mind playing with you Fred, but these other guys......."?

Anyone got footage of that sweet spinning volley Wynton scored? I was looking for it on YouTube a while back and couldn't find it anywhere

Maybe that one match Ben Sigmund played for the Kingz? Seeing as how he is having his book launch

It was an away match....Marconi perhaps?

I dunno, but if a Nix player scored this then the A League goal of the season would be settled there and then...

Loved Goutzi, thought he was a really good midfielder. Got his green training top when they were being sold off for a fund raiser (well, probably to help cover the players wages)
