Have to say I far prefer this kit and sponor to the one we are about to use.
Grateful for the football and the Nix and the folk who bring them to us.

"Dávila said the pair have already formed a connection away from the pitch as Hemed speaks Spanish, having spent five years living in Spain when he played for La Liga clubs Mallorca and Almería between 2011 and 2015."
Nice little connection. Also good news that Davila's wife and son will soon join him in the Gong. All promising stuff.
Does anyone know if the club are still selling virtual memberships?
It seems that they closed on the 31st of Dec 2020....
?️ Our February fixture list has changed - our month will now start at defending champions Sydney FC before a home game at WIN stadium against Central Coast Mariners ??

No more Waitangi Day game :'(
8th is the Mondayised Waitangi observation day (off work) or whatever the official title is.
anyone know what has happened to Greenie? Has he left the club? I know Giancarlo became assistant at the start of the season but I assumed Greenie would keep his role? Havent seem him on the bench on any of the games, only Giancarlo has been there. Unless I’m wrong?

He's still assistant coach and is with the team in Australia.
Awesome! Any idea why he hasn't been with the team on the bench on gameday?

For any @WgtnPhoenixFC fans wondering about the change of matchday positions for assistant coaches Giancarlo Italiano (aka Chiefy, now on the sideline) and Chris Greenacre (now up top) I asked Ufuk Talay last night…

For those like me without Sky Sport, I received this info from Prime TV yesterday about their Phoenix and general A-League coverage:
"I can confirm that Prime will be airing the Round 6 A-League highlights this Friday at 10:30 pm, and will have the other round highlights also on Fridays but start times may differ."
Highlights of every Phoenix match continue screening the day after the match at 6 pm.

During the CCM game he was shown by the cameras up the top in the glass booth looking down intently on the on-field proceedings.
5 day lock down in Melbourne, so that is next weeks midweek A-League games stuffed. Would have been nice to have played the Victory when they were rubbish
#BREAKING
— FOXSportsAUS (@FOXSportsAUS) February 12, 2021
Two @ALeague games and one @WLeague game tomorrow are OFF due to the COVID-19 Victoria lockdown.
Games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday are TBC.
Fingers crossed the Victory vs Nix game can still go ahead.
Salient reminder that we all owe the Welnix owners a continued thanks.
"An analysis conducted by KPMG (the accounting firm that is now the Phoenix’s front-of-shirt sponsor) for Sport New Zealand last April projected that the Phoenix’s typical $1 million annual loss would blow out to $3.3 million as a result of the pandemic. They received a little over a $1 million of taxpayer money, whether directly or through the wage subsidy scheme, which helped prop them up at a time when they feared for their existence. But it’s the owners that are footing the bulk of the bill – one that has grown as they’ve had to deal with the additional costs of being based in Wollongong for the foreseeable future."
"The Phoenix need to sell 3000 tickets at their temporary WIN Stadium home in Wollongong to break even every time they play, but Covid-19 restrictions in New South Wales left them unable to do that in their first two matches, and while they’ve established a few partnerships in their adopted region – most notably with the University of Wollongong and The Fraternity Club (which does a mean mushroom pasta with cream, according to attacking midfielder Reno Piscopo) – they haven’t found the commercial support they had hoped for."

A lot will depend on the agreed shape and format of the league for the next season, rather than this current season.
If it reverts to a winter code, it will matters complicated for us; competing with other codes will be a problem for us (I am surprised it is not considered a problem for the other clubs in the A League). Australian winter is perfect to play, Wellington could be a bit more dire.

it’s a massive problem for other Australian clubs. During winter in AAMI Park in Melbourne, the stadium will be shared by the Melbourne Victry, Melbourne City, Melbourne Storm and Rebels. Until Western United get their own stadium they will share with the owners of the ground, Geelong Cats not to mention BankWest will be shared with 3/4 codes. Not to mention the media will be focused on AFL and NRL. It’s a massive issue for other clubs, more then the Phoenix I say
yes, the reason the A League is in summer is because of the competition with other codes, so I cant imagine it changing.

Also apparently:

how the fudge do you get "the club is going to fold" from that? all it says is that the owners have had to stump up with more cash than expected to keep playing in Aussie. Nothing new to see here, we all knew playing this season was going to cost us a lot. The point is, that we owe the owners a huge debt of gratitude. The only way we can show that gratitude is by packing Sky stadium when the nix are back.

Another Sydney FC Youth product.
If he proves to be another Devlin I will be stoked.
Doesn't show much faith in Waine though. I don't think he has been given a fair crack, never seems to come on when we are in a dominant position, so seems to be asked to do donkey work and defend alot.
He can't be worse that Muratovic!

Muratovic has some talent, he just isn't a wide #10. Play him as a striker, like he has played all thru his youth.
Is there any way to terminate Hemeds contract under mutual terms and get a real striker in Feb window>?
Reasonably realistic assessment. Throw in The Breakers who are bottom of the NBL.
Going to be a tough couple of weeks you think for Talay and his coaching staff, dealing with all their injuries, Ball's suspension, and likely dropping team morale.
totally,

Let's say all known injuries rule people out for WSW. What would people's preferred lineups be? I thought Lewis had his best game against CCM so would give him another run here. With Davila playing up top but dropping between the lines and rotating with the other 10s. I'd move Payne over playing McGing purely because he's more up to speed and the drop off to Fenton isn't as marked.
Muratovic has gone missing in games but so has everyone who's played up top (Hemed ended up dropping very deep to get touches). Absolutely noone (with the exception of Davila and maybe McGarry) has shown up at all this year.
We have 3 games over the weeks. So that is really going to test our squad.
I'd like to see Fenton get more game time, and Sutton to get some game time.
Really hope Devlin is fit, as don't think Rufer and Ridenton are a good starting DM pairing.

9 Kiwis in that starting lineup. One bright side.
Though suspect Muratovic starts ahead of Waine. I thought he was improved against CCM on earlier games, first touch a bit better, and got into some threatening areas. Maybe a bit more relaxed (less nervous?) as was really a lost cause already when he came on.
Putting Payne into CB makes sense. He played there for ES prior Nix.
And yes lets hope Devlin is okay to go. Almost the biggest loss if he is out. Which is a nice compliment for a 2nd year player.
Who knows an underdog, fighting, nothing to lose attitude, with fresh faces, may just be the change the team needs. Keep it tight, hang in there as long as possible, and always a chance. Optimistic view.
Might be a bit too early to read too much into this but
