Sounds like local interest is ramping up in Wollongong. One of my sons, who lives over there, was tracked down as a Nix fan and interviewed today for a local tv item on the Nix.

Does anyone even believe we will win a game this season?. I started thinking this is the season for silverware, but now think we are destined for the spoon. Playing in front of 1k crowds @ the gong wont help also its not really a home game in Wollongong so all the NSW teams will smash us. Our squad is a mixed bag of could be's to half season lazy pants. If only the club let Talay spend the money needed to strengthen the squad.

@Royz you should open your own thread called "Royz' Ramblings" so you can expel all of that negative energy, and we can all avoid it like the plague

Of course, but all starts to put a bit of pressure on NZ Govt, to make it a 2 way travel bubble.

Most of the Australians states (WA still not?) now allowing Kiwis to arrive without the 2 week hotel MI requirement. Covid situation in Australia as a whole now no worse than NZ. NZ tourism industry would get a welcome boost from Aussie tourists. I'm sure NZ Govt looking at it closely now. This QLD announcement came as a bit of a surprise.

Managing or trying to separate passengers who are coming via Australia to NZ (ie only transiting though Aus) and therefore need to go into 2 weeks MI, from Australian resident travellers is probably the biggest challenge. But when I flew into NZ back in October from LA, there were a bunch of people just transiting through Auckland enroute to Brisbane. I presume the Australians are somehow separating those people on arrival, from those on the same plane coming direct from NZ?? Or maybe they have completely different planes ie no mixing of people from different origins.

A 2 way travel bubble, obviously makes games at the ROF a strong possibility.

Stop being a "Karen", we need at least another import for the back but so far have nothing (for that position) while all other AL clubs have oceans of imports. The Club needs to let Talay spend money or we will end up being the next CCM.

This is the main problem - no idea on how Australians are managing it, but having people from outside Australia travelling on a same plane along with returning NZers from Brisbane to Auckland is a risk that NZ government is not prepared to take at this stage. And unless some sort of fool proof way of doing that becomes apparent, I don't see any changes in MIQ policy until the vaccines become readily available here.

Bring back the Freedom Air routes! Fly Hamilton/Palmy - Gold Coast/Newcastle etc and you wouldn't be mixing bubble passengers & in transit passengers

I'd imagine in a bubble we'd have isolated parts of airports and dedicated bubble flights without people transiting.

What the PM said a couple of months ago was that we needed a plan from Australia at a federal level around how they will respond to an outbreak, the amount of cases that are acceptable before a state is closed, etc.Because the federal government is anti lockdown that's not going to happen.

I think the logistics could easily be sorted out. I had a friend who flew out of Paris recently. He was given a Covid test when he got to the departure lounge, result in 15 minutes. When he was cleared negative he got a certificate and got on the plane.

Kiwis have been flying into NSW for over a month and there have been zero issues with Covid. I just think the NZ govt is being way to cautious. The Australian cases are the same as NZ. Tourism is our biggest foreign exchange earner and Australians are the largest group of tourists.

It would be easy to Covid test everyone in a A-League team. Then fly them to Wellington, they could keep in their bubble while in the city and then play the Nix. Ditto for the Nix going back and forth to play in OZ. This is just bullshiite IMO. Life has to get back to normal.

Its not bullshark just because Oz and us have done well dosnt mean we should open things up. Whats happening else where shows that things arnt ready to be thrown open. Until there are guarantees that travelers havnt been in transit with passengers from elsewhere its only right to keep things tight. With cases still arriving in both countries more tyhan happy for the cautious approach.

Seems to be this thing here that because we havnt had it bad its not that much of a problem i for one am glad the cautious route has been taken

It has been clearly demonstrated here that negative tests before departure are meaningless, as there have been multiple cases of people developing Covid once in the country despite testing negative before departure (this includes the Pakistan cricket team). The number of Australian cases isn't so much the issue as those transiting through Aus airports from other places travelling through to NZ. A lot of NZ MIQ cases are people travelling from Europe/Middle East/Subcontinent vis Brisbane. Guess separate planes and airport areas and staff would work but might be trickier to pull off than people think.

The reality though is that there is practically zero tolerance for another outbreak here by NZ population at large, this isn't only coming from the Govt (and National realised this before the election and changed their tune after Bridges and Muller had tried to push a more 'liberal' approach). And with the economy performing way better than anyone had forecast the pressure to open up international tourism just isn't there at a national level. It's more likely that the Govt will just provide additional financial support to tourism operators rather than opening up borders in a hurry.

Its more than just trolling now though Doloras. I might be being a little precious now in light of world events but all of this “fake news” about COVID, the US election, internet trolling etc etc has changed my view on freedom of speech and the like. I know Royz is harmless but it’s just become ridiculous. You mentioned that a lot of people don’t post here any more, I’d suggest part of the reason is stuff like what Royz posts. On the whole the mods do a pretty good job in keeping the board moving ( and I have myself received bans for some pretty banal reasons) but if someone is a constant nuisance and is contributing to people leaving or not contributing at all - then surely that person needs to be removed for the sake of the wider membership?

Like many immigrants with limited English, living in the soulless vast suburban shark hole of greater Western Sydney, Royz will be pinning now and again for his homeland and a sense of community belonging. It's good for anyone's mental health to belong to a community - even an online one.

But Royz come up with some new material. The whole Jinx angle is now very dull and boring.

Meanwhile some good news travel wise.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/300182001/quarantinefree-travel-bubble-between-new-zealand-and-the-cook-islands-is-on-the-way

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/123685...

But sadly does seem little urgency from the NZ Govt, to make the Trans Tasman border a 2 way travel bubble. Would be interested to know what Aus Govt is doing differently, to assuage themselves that they are safe from any Kiwis (or transiting passengers entering on flights from NZ) bringing in Covid.

Couldn't you have Australian incoming flights coming from one just destination, eg Sydney - with a group of NZ immigration officials based at that airport. Aussies booking flights from Sydney looking have a NZ holiday, when booking the flight have to fill in an Immigration form declaring they have not been out of Australia in the preceding 2 weeks, and NZ immigration officials then go through their passports checking that is correct, ie no evidence of other country's entry/exit stamps. We live in a digital age. Travel information is being easily captured. You think there would be a way, if there was a strong motivation to make it happen. Again obviously the Aussies have found an avenue that works for them.

Laws pushing for a start ahead of Te Atawhai?

Full 90 for Laws and Ridenton?

Updates on McGarry and Muratovic?

Where has he been playing Lewis? Who else do we have in the mids besides Matty and Alex? Feel we could be vunerable to injury and form, though would be happy to be disappointed.

Not looking like a break-out season for Waine?

They don't announce anything in time for the Sydney based Nix fans to have a chance of attending, so it is rather hard to find out any answers to those questions.@JoshStevo95 on Twitter was at the game & tweeted out his opinions about WSW. Maybe someone can hit him up for his Nix opinions? He did offer this up in his review

Seems fairly clear from the pre-season lineups that

Marinovic

Payne, DeVere, Laws, McGarry

Devlin, Rufer

Dávila, Piscopo

Ball, Hemed

is what Talay has in mind as a fully-fit, first-choice XI.

Piscopo v Lewis is probably the one contest alive, while it remains to be seen at what stage Dávila and Hemed (who trains with the team for the first time this Wednesday) are able to be considered fully-fit, and there is also plenty of fixture congestion in January.

Ridenton, Laws, Lewis, Hudson-Wihongi, Payne would be the back-up options in central midfield, probably in that order.

Knew I was bleeding forgetting someone. Devlin injured I suppose.

Front 3rd is much the same as last season, but we have lost Matti and Libby, so worried about a little dip in quality there, but McGarry is a good Phoenix kid with pedigree, as is Rufer.

Is this our most settled pre-season since Ricki? 7-8 of our starting 11 continue and our coach too and hopefully Hemed is like for like with Hooper.

Do we think we have any spare cash for an import CB or mid if circumstances allow?

DeVere is capo?
