I have this vague recollection that someone - possibly Robb? - mentioned that next season would be played out on a different timescale to this one, with a later start than normal. Is this right? And if so, what was the reason - surely not the egg-chasing, as that only effects our ground?

And presumably, we'll be back to 10 teams and 27 regular season games now that the Fury are out?

Talk that the season will start in October so that the first few rounds are after the NRL and AFL final.  Essentially the argument that it is undesirable to have no coverage of the start of the  A-league season because everyone else if focused on the NRl and AFL playoffs.

Hopefully it will mean slight warmer days to get our shirts off.

And RWC...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

With AMI & QE2 out of action, that is going to make early season games in NZ fairly difficult.

If Tauranga (the only other major stadium not in use) do enter the RWC picture due to the AMI now out of action, is there going to be any stadia in NZ at all we can use?

Looking at the game schedule, Ring of Fire will become available from mid-october.

AMI could be OK if they lose the world cup. They may only need to fix one stand and the turf.

An October start probably means that the first 4 or so games will be played away in aus.

As biased as I am, Cooks Gardens actually is a damn good facility. Would hold about 20,000 and is far better to watch rectangular sports than the Ring of dirt. Won't happen obviously.

And why not?
Many reasons but I will give you one that counts it out completely: Cricket season.TopLeft072011-03-16 21:49:20

Where would they squeeze 20k in?  3 - 3,500 in the stand and they reckon they can get another 17k in?

If this is the reason for a late start then this would become the normal start date for subsequent seasons (can't imagine NRL & AFL shortening their seasons to allow A-League to start in September).

I'd really hope that this would mean the round robin games would finish in late Feb/mid March with the playoffs then going from March to early April.

Well the 2 stands on opposite sides are virtually the same capacity now but I tent to agree with you HN. Official site says 17 and wikipedia (lols) says 20. I'd say 12-13 comfortably at the most.

Why not go back to the Ring of Dirt in the future...

Later start and finish should also get rid of the short term transfer to keep fit for the World Cup nonsense in World Cup years.

North Harbour Stadium? Mt Smart? Western Springs? Bill McKinley? Kiwitea St (joking, the last 2 are sh*t actually). These are (almost) all good options.

Its no longer a problem.

North Harbour and Mt Smart are RWC grounds. Mt Smart as a training venue which I imagine will be the base for semi and final teams in the lead up to those games.

Yeah, First Class cricket pitches get whipped up in a week basically.

The Basin isn't an option, full stop.
