I think its fairly obvious they were always looking to use it as an excuse to take the game away, rather than a legitimate reason or clash.

The Wellington Phoenix are pleased to announce two updates to the Wellington Phoenix’s home schedule for season 2013/14.

The Round 17 match against Adelaide United on Saturday February 1 at 7.30pm will be played at Eden Park, Auckland.

The Round 25 match against Adelaide United originally scheduled for Sunday March 30 at 7pm at Westpac Stadium has been rescheduled for Saturday March 29 at 5.30pm at the same venue.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager says the Club is pleased to be able to announce these two updates.

“We are thrilled to be able to return to Eden Park in February 2014” Dome said.

“Eden Park is New Zealand’s premier sports stadium. The fans and the players enjoy going there and there’s something special about the venue, and we’ve yet to lose there”

“We’re keen to see the Auckland public support us again as they have in the past when we’ve had over 20,000 turn up to see the Phoenix play in New Zealand’s largest city”.

Dome said that the Phoenix has been working closely with Football Federation Australia and Fox Sports to try and get more Saturday games in the schedule after the initial draw was announced and the move of the Round 25 game to Saturday is very satisfying.

“We’re really pleased that we were able to respond to fans’ feedback and get one more Saturday game added to our schedule, and at an earlier kick off time as well.”

“The A-League draw is incredibly complex and the shift required Perth Glory having to move a date and time as well, so we’re pleased that the FFA and Fox has worked with the Club to get this over the line.”

The Phoenix’s season kicks off against Brisbane Roar on Sunday October 13 at Westpac Stadium.

At a glance

*The Round 17 match against Adelaide United on February 1 will be played at Eden Park, Auckland.
* The Round 25 match against Adelaide United original scheduled for Sunday March 30 at 7pm has been rescheduled for Saturday March 29 at 5.30pm.
* Of the 13 home games, 6 are now Saturdays, 7 are Sundays
* Of the Sunday games, 3 fall within holiday windows.

Downside = a third 'home-away' game confirmed in Auckland

Upside = one of those stupid Sunday 7pm games moves to Saturday.

Was always going to be in Auckland - just which park won the bid.

Quite grumpy about only having 10 Welly games. I guess this is the amount we can only expect for the future.

77% of home games in Wgtn.  Has any one looked at the stadium schedule of events (I havn't) to see if their was space to suit the FOX schedule.

The venue wasn't named previously because of the India cricket tour. There was an article the other week suggesting that the Welly ODI will be the day before the Heart game (16th). The Sevens is on the 7th & 8th, so the Stadium should be free of events.

I'm fine with taking 2 games around the country, even 3 when we happen to have a regional game. We have gone from 1 home & away game, to two and now 3. Yes, it makes for some great weekends away but not every fan can do that.

I wonder whether these away games are part of putting pressure on the stadium to improve our deal

The only reason we have  NZBreakers and NZWarriors is the Aucklanders believe they are NZ.  South of Bombay Hill is where.

Just to prove it how many games do these 2 NEW ZEALAND  teams take out of  "NZAuckland"

Is that implying that if Westpac can't turn it around, they will sway the auckland game around with that game?

Horribly worded but that is what I think Sam is implying. They have done a 1 day turn around before but they are missing the skills of TopLeft07 now.
It's been done before, but the wicket moves have been a little 'hairy' there since they bought their own machine.

Yep. One thing I will miss is the Nix games so I'm glad we're getting one. Was a bit nervous about the BCCI and their power around scheduling tours for a while there.
