I know that Perth Glory aren't exactly the best team in the competition, I would prefer our lads to be at their peak for 12th October...

I just realised my error whilst cleaning the toilet.

Report from the stands:

  • lots of possessions.
  • Sydney looked dangerous hit diags behind the back four and getting it wide and early crosses behind the back four.
  • Gorrin, Riera and Bonevacia looked quality as midfield 3
  • Burns looked dangerous but nothing to work with.
  • WeeMac looked a little lost.

Do we think this is the 1st VI? Pretty happy with this line up tbh.

Would be happy for Boyd or Cunningham to come into that line up. Boyd really impressed last season. And Cunningham seems to be able to finish. Or has on occasion for us. The concern is still where the goals are coming from. Rodriguez, McG, Burns and Brockie needing to chip in a lot.

Cunningham always seems to be high energy and Boyd seemed to be able to create chances and this could be his season to bag a few. Fenton?? Been so messed around. Seemed like a good winger/forward.

Weemac chipped over the bar - "the chance of the match". Brockie "sprayed a shot wide" from inside the box.

Maybe he wanted to be a few hours north midway up the M1...

Combined two quotes. This is pretty much the starting team I have been advocating for except Cunningham for Brockie but I can accept this. Cunningham would offer more pace I would have thought which is what Ernie likes. It shows that both Roly and Riera can play in that midfield and exist together. Glad they went there with those players and tried it out. Goals are a concern still but as has been hashed out a thousand times, we never signed a striker... oh wait we did sign Nathan Burns that ended our striker search.

Pregame get together at the Backbencher from noon? A bit of pre game warm ups, a few new chants aired, catching up with old friends... can't wait.

Will be going to the game.  Possibly will go to the zone and learn what you have come up with for chants.

Just curious. Can soemone let me know what is Merrick's preferred formation and preferred starting lineup for the season if there are no injuries? I have no idea but is it something like this? Moss Muscat Durante Sigmund Doyle Bonevacia Riera ARod Brockie McGlinchey Burns I belive this was the starting lineup against Sydney FC but couldn't work out how Merrick had fitted it together consdering the amount of Midfielders in that starting 11 I presume the bench would something near: Cunnigham Boyd Boxall Krshna Fenton Also is Vinnie Lia ahead of Rufer and Ridenton in the pecking order? I can see Lia getting very little game time this year

Sorry about the formatting on that last message. Should be spaces and showing a 4 3 3 formation. Instead it has lumped all my lines together.

Lia has been injured so we don't know where he is in the pecking order.

Ernie must have a place for him somewhere. He gave him another two years in the middle of last season.

He'll still be a good squad player for us, especially with all those good midfielders now available to play alongside him... I remember he played quite well with Riera alongside him last season.

So I was wondering... you know the two for one deal for members/season ticket holders this weekend...

...if you haven't received your season tickets yet, how do you get the two for one deal (apart from being the mate of someone who has got their tickets already)?

I will tweet @WgtnPheonixFC and ask them...

New world also gives out two for one deals to the home and garden show. I don't think they will be hard to come by.

Can't wait for the game. Missed every game last season as I went on a round the world trip and was gutted to never see Carlos play live in a Nix shirt.

Hope the weather will stay nice for Sunday, although it is Wellington we are talking about...

Yep.  If I wanted to spend my time watching someone pout a lot for a lot of cash, there are better venues than the Caketin for that.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Were you asleep during his 7 goals and 8 assists in ~20 or so appearances?

He apparently led the team in assists, shots, crosses and chances created.

Sure, he threw a stroppy towards the end there - and I don't think getting rid of him was the wrong move; yet he's still in the top 5 attacking players we've ever had on our books. Lots of revisionist history on here.

The word is that everyone in the nix was glad to see the arse end of him.

Would probably trade some assists and goals for a bit of defensive work.
