Yeh he should have coped much better with that elbow from Berisha

I do remember in a previous final a similar stray elbow that cut the defender resulted in a straight red then.

Ok, so you guys are saying his performance was impaired by the bandage and swollen face? Maybe that's fair enough. I still don't think he's very good even when he isn't all smashed around by Albanian elbows.

He may not be a game changer but we could easily do worse than Jurman. It all depends on the price.

I wonder how Ernies European trip is going? We could always sign Joey Barton, Richard Dunne, Shaun Wright-Phillips, who is a mate of Greenacre's, Eduardo Vargas........

Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City, Western Sydney, Central Coast, Wellington and Newcastle are all keen on Maclaren, though negotiations have stalled amid the uncertainty.

Wouldnt think we would be able to compete with all those clubs to sign him but he would be a good signing, imo.

JOHNNY Warren medallist and Socceroo Nathan Burns is on FC Tokyo’s hit list.

The former Adelaide United and current Wellington Phoenix forward has attracted interest from the J-League’s third placed club but the deal is far from done.

Chelsea target Yoshinori Muto’s recent move from FC Tokyo to Germany’s Mainz in the Bundesliga has opened the door for Burns.

But it’s believed FC Tokyo officials are undecided on whether they should snare Burns to take up a foreign spot or sign two players from within the Japanese system after Muto penned a four-year deal for Mainz.

Burns nonetheless is understood to be also considering offers from European clubs.

With Ernie still in Europe, is any club official scouting the U20 World Cup? It's happening right here and there are quite a few "smaller" footballing nations showcasing their talent..

Still think some of the NZ squad are worth having on our books, particularly Wynne, Mitchell and Lewis.

I thought Billingsley looked decent off the bench too, has some wheels!

You would thought that with the need of at least two more CBs the Nix will sign Mitchell or Brotherton to have them as back up players

And what about Jesse Edge? I know he's in Italy but if he's no getting game time would be a great signing considering the lack of RBs the club has had since its formation, really liked his performance

What Ernie said somewhere was something like all the good players in a competition like this are all taken anyway, so it's not really as worthwhile as you would think to scout it.

Sam Brotherton is off to Wisconsin, USA in a soccer scholarship so he won't be available. However for a long time now I still think Adam Mitchell could be a long term replacement at CB. I rate him above Brotherton and has great leadership ability, being very vocal. Also John Irving? Had a very solid season with Auckland city?

He requires a visa spot, something we have earmarked for up front.

This.

Any talent that is u20 is going to be at a larger overseas club and part of that clubs succession planning. If there is any standout that is not signed, they would get snapped up by higher profile football clubs than the Wellington Phoenix.

If he needs to watch NZ because he has not seen some of the players, then that would be worse in not knowing what is in your own backyard.

We don't want an u-20 foreign player because we need to sign a striker who can score 10 plus a season. Most young guys can't do that (and if they could they would be signed up already). There is also no point scouting NZ players.

May note have the absolute speed he once did, but he would probably come in behind only Krishna in a race with our squad.

Despite fairly limited minutes, he still scored 11 last year

Quite a few players from non-European teams play their football in their home nation and a gig in the HAL could be a good choice. It would be stupid to write off everyone, not saying we will find the next Adama Traore and we only have 1 visa spot to play with but would have hoped the club will have an idea on players likely interested in a move to the HAL due to where they play and then having a look at them. Nothing might come of it now but good to have database of players scouted that could be referred to in the future.

Most players at the u20 WC will be contracted to clubs, so would require transfer fees that we won't be willing to pay.

Declan is unlikely to agree that is a good move.

I thought he was minging in the first game - didn't particularly focus on him last night but in the first game he looked slow and unfit (I was just going to say fat to save a couple of words but that's not nice) - he got walked around numerous times and wasn't great in the air and distribution was poor.  also struggled to throw the ball in accurately.

He was the 4th best fullback on the night - by some margin.

Deklyn Wynne - now he is worth a look!
