Former SFC  & currently tearing it up in the NSW PL for APIA Blake Powell is supposed to be trialling for you guys soon.

I wasn't that impressed by him at Sydney but sounds like he had gone away and improved his game big time. Scoring 20 goals in 14 games is rather impressive. No harm in looking at him for sure.

Is tearing up Aussie state leagues a good way of judging talent?

We are all aware of a certain kiwi doing that in Victoria but not appearing to receive much attention from A -League sides.

A Kiwi counts as an Import for Australian clubs hence not much interest from them

Believe that the NSWPL is recognised by most as being better than the VPL.

That old bastard has been wandering through the lower leagues of England and Wales for years now. You would not believe how many drinks he can pack inside him on the weekend. All in all he is a safe bet in mid-field on a good day, but on a wet field he tends to get bogged down and he is totally shark in the air. Just can't picture him donning phoenix colours anytime soon, about time he got a start with the All Whites though, rumour has it his grandmother lives in Parnell.

Lightweight cover. Scarcely used sub at best.

Speculation this guy has being transferred on a free to Zealandia from some rat infested continent.

"I feel really safe here and at home already" he said "I would like to play expansively on the wing more"

How does this potential marquee handle pressure? Will this marquee adjust to the Wellington weather like others before it? Is the marquee in shape (pics suggest the marquee is quite large) but I guess the most important factor is will this marquee cover a lot of ground?

Blatant self marketer, although can hold his liquor, turn of speed if required...not frightened to 'park it' if required.  Possibly high maintenance due to age...added advantage is able to carry the rest of the team...........

He's been at Zwolle on loan so there is a kiwi connection there already through Ryan Thomas. Maybe Ryan has been talking up NZ!

Confirmed that Griff won't be re-signed. Same article also mentioned that there's been no contact made to the club about Burnsy.

Permalink Permalink

Pretty unsurprising that we aren't going to re-sign the Griff. It's probably going to be a similar scenario to Ifill: keep up posted about your recovery. If and when you're playing fit again, give us a ring and we'll go from there.

Re: Babalj, I used to rate him very highly when he played in the A-League. Still quite young. I would take him in a flash.

Re: Burns - Dome's words sound exactly like the words of someone who wants an existing offer to be improved!

Would love to have him. He would be a fairly hot property though, and with Gameiro and Janko gone I wouldn't be surprised if the club in question was Sydney.

Cahill is like Archie Thompson - age says slow down yet they keep on keeping on for how many years. regardless of what we think personally, their level of fitness is supreme.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Cahill really is the Australian Tim Brown. Doesn't do much except pop up with the odd goal here and there; but those goals are usually v. important.
