Cahill really is the Australian Tim Brown. Doesn't do much except pop up with the odd goal here and there; but those goals are usually v. important.

Except Cahill does it for the national team, Tim did not.

He scored the equaliser for Shenhua this weekend (Shenhua then went on to win in stoppage time).

Well, yeah; he's much better than Brown ever was - but they are similar players in terms of where they usually fit into teams.

They are both named Tim.

End of similarities!

Imagine Cahill's potential if he had discovered the benefits of the head bandage!

Wasn't there a German youth guy playing in reserve side a year or two ago who was looking close to stepping up to first team?

Shame - I always rated Tobias and I thought he could have acquired citizenship fairly quickly since he had been here for quite a few years since he was young.

No doubt he'll be recruited to play for the AWs.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Merrick spoke highly of him, he was even talking about signing him during his first season. Guessing visa issues might have hurt his chances?

I meant that if he wasn't an import and he continued to play well at ASB prem level he might have been a good signing for the Nix.

We could hardly do worse than the likes of Riddenton and Rufer anyway..

EDIT: That's a bit harsh on the youngsters, but still I would have liked to see how it might have panned out for Bertsch had he stayed in NZ a bit longer and bulked up a bit.

Holland, Halloran, Bozanic all avalaible. None are out and out strikers, but Bozanic/Halloran could be potential Burns replacements if it coomes to that.

Visa issues.  Shame cause he was awesome, and a nice fella.

Yeah, there's going to be a bit of competition in the very limited Australian player pool.

Apparently the only reason he left is due to the distance he has to travel to play for Austria.

mario balotelli has reportedly been seen training with the wellington phoenix fc during there june/july tour of fiji. it has been reported that phoenix coach ernie merrick has inquired over the italians availability for 2015/16 season and has been involved in advanced contractual negotiations with the club who struggled through the last few games of their premier league season and will be looking for something in their upcoming campaign.

Saw a picture of Powell kitted up in Nix gear in Fiji.

Never really fancied him at Sydney, looked pretty stock standard. Sounds like he's come on a bit though.

Should we try and sneek Bobby Zamora from under the Jets's nose?

Doloras, did you miss the volley he scored against Derby County at Wembley? Besides we already have Vinnie Lia reserving Row Z.

Would be shocked if he didn't end up at the Victory, though they must be getting close to hitting the cap.

Just to kick things off again...now that pre-season has started, does this mean Ernie won't return to Europe to scout players and will do that from his office instead?

Youtube is pretty good and cheaper than staying in Europe.
