600k is a lot of money but it is still probably less than the Middle East teams are offering. And I dunno if he is really worth that much but it is a statement of intent, trying to sign a current Socceroo.

Don't know, I lost my strength & charisma dodecahedron dice in a basement in upper hutt in the mid-nineties, all my character building has been weak and ugly ever since

Tommy Oar

the latter two are currently Euro based. Any issues with the no dick heads policy?

And what about other signings? I know the big problem is the striker but 7 players have left and only 1 arrived. Would be good to see that at least some young kiwis are signed as back ups.

So Ernie said our target had gone to Azerbaijan...

These are a few recruits in the last few months, could be one of these guys

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rihairo_Meulens

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rydell_Poepon

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%B1ete

I picked these guys because they aren't from anywhere near Azerbaijan, but hey, could be barking up the wrong tree entirely.

Plus, top 2 may have connections to Roly

What's not great news about that?

Nothing in that areticle says that the deal that has been rumoured to be almost sealed has fallen through. The one that went to Azerbaijan was one we looked at "at one stage". And Ernie says he won't ever announce anything until it is signed sealed and delivered. So, next week is still next week, isn't it?

Dear Yellow Fever,

At the last minute, a team from the Middle East made a desperate plea for my services. It's with regret that I inform you that I shall not be joining you in Wellington. I have, however, suggested to Ernie Merrick that my good friend Aaron Clapham is more than up to the task to fill the big shoes I leave behind. That signing should be announced in the coming weeks.

Good luck for the season! Allah sizinlə ola bilər

I love the Caucasus - the food is great, the wine is great, the mountains are great, the culture is amazing. You've got these ski fields with new Doppelmeyer lifts but no one actually goes there because its too expensive for the locals and too out of the way for foreigners. (Sometimes there are competing lift companies older soviet ones and newer doppelmeyer running side by side so there is price competition within the same field).

Don't dismiss what it offers out of hand.

Also possibly oil money (I don't know how much of it has made it to their football clubs) and Azerbaijan is in UEFA so there's a chance of Europa League or Champions League football

Still, if we are losing out to Azerbaijan on money offered alone - must mean something isn't quite right.

From the sounds of it though we never even came close to having an offer in. Ernie just identified a player he was interested in in and then the player signed with an Azerbaijani club.

Sorry, been too busy living my life to pay much attention, am I right in assuming that the 'overseas striker', that we were just about to sign, has evaporated into thin air?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Depends who you believe. We could have missed out on half a dozen and now be screwed or we could have an all but done deal to be announced next week.

I don't think "losing out" is the right phrase given we have no idea how much effort was put in on the Phoenix's part.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

They're quite the circus. I can't say there are many fans accross the league impressed with their sensationalism.

They had the price wrong but where right about the approach, they are not perfect but considering the lack of media attention on A-League transfers they are pretty much the only decent source for rumours.
