Agree, I was never 100% convinced by Boxall.  Anyone know how he is going in SA?

Keep Fenton! I think he is a player for the future. Must admit, he had not the best year.

I am sure we'll keep Fenton, but I am worried about his mental and physical sturdiness since his shoulder injuries.

My question is, is his rehab complete and this is the best we can see of him? If so, maybe it is time to let him play up the paddock again, and get a proper fullback now that we are likely to have a few to choose from.

Or accept that he is still on a road to full recovery and he'll be a good & useful local player in future, as he is still quite young.

I think he needs more variety in his game - his drop the shoulder and hit the byline routine has been worked out meaning he's pretty ineffective going forward and he's never been a flawless defender.  I always said I think he's been screwed around but a decision needs to be made whether he's an attacking player or a defender.  At the moment he's a utility but not really that great at either end.

he's started 17 of their 20 league games this season.

I thought he was struggling and the Super Sport fans weren't happy? Although he's probably improved.

im sure if we used louis more in midfield and up front he'd be better, young and experienced, worthy of a bench spot for me, just get him out of blimmin defence. vinnie and manny need to be dropped if we are to move forward and stop stunting younger players growth, their age is showing.

Agreed. He was a makeshift fullback because we were short of them. But this has not really worked out and is not really that great for Louis, either, long-term.  It is easy to advise from an armchair, but I am sorry for the lad and would like him to succeed in this team.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

So not good enough to start for a team in 9th?  High praise

He's talking about the future, not the current spot on the table, you're just picking holes.

I thought he did a very good job out of position at right back and he was slowly starting to improve with more game time.

I think him and Fox could potentitally be a very good combination.

Re: Fenton - I think the shoulder injuries have not only knocked the confidence out of him, but have also slowed him down and made him less agile. He's bulked up his upper body, presumably to stabilise his shoulders but it seems to have lost a touch of acceleration and the ability to change direction sharply too. Combined with defensive weaknesses and poor decision making he really doesn't seem to contribute enough to warrant a starting spot.

Re: Boxall - he is big and fast, and reads the game well and did a good job when given an extended run at RB. I would take him back in a heartbeat, and like a lot of people here was gutted to see him go. I don't think it's fair to pass judgement on him as a CB in his time here because he never got much of a chance to have an extended run in that role and develop understanding with his CB partner. Even having said that I thought he did well at it when given a shot

What about Michael Fitzgerald or Themi ? Fitzgerald ticks the box that means he could then play in the three All Whites games each other, while Themi is a beast!

I didn't watch all of the licence extension announcement so missed them talking about the new rule where we can have 23 players starting next season. What a genius piece of negotiating by Rob. Makes a lot sense though as we should win more games and gain more bums and eye balls. Metrikz.

I think we should terminate all the current contracts and start again!

Sign 23 Australian players aged between 15 and 19. Given that there are 5 States represented in the A-League these contracts should be distributed proportionally among these states (ie we should have 40% of our players from NSW). Each new signing should be given at least 50 tickets each into the Away Bays on away match days to distribute to their family and friends as well as an equivalent amount of subscriptions to Fox Sports.

Oh, and all our Home Matches should be played in Canberra

you could place most the team in that situation, im looking at the apparent better players we're supposedly be getting in the future pushing him to the bench. Utility players are handy to have thats all im saying.

Can you believe that header vs Sydney with a certain Italian import making an appearance was 2012? I too thought wow, where can this player go next?

Re Boxall I guess it raises the question would you bring him back as a starting right back,  he could be the new mani with knowing how to play centre etc as well after a couple of years. Doesn't solve our cb issue but solves the right back issue(being at the moment Fenton/mani).
I think a line up of Doyle dura/(fox as long term replacement) new solid CB and Boxall could be a solid back four depending on a new experienced/quick CB to help dura next year

Not sure if it solves the right back thing either. Ernie had Fenton there because he was keen on converted wingers in his fullbacks or pace. Boxall didn't get universal love here when he was here. Plus from a kiwis in pro-football side of things... Still don't think anyone would clatter into him and hurt his shoulder

Are Connor Pain or Jai Ingham locked in on long contracts with the Victory? I think Pain in particular would be worth a shot, he seems to be well down the pecking order (although us taking Kosta may help his causes there).

I'm in Sydney atm. Anyone else reading FFA are presently proposing a $Aus10 mill pool from 2017 onwards for use by ALL TEN A-League clubs for incoming marquee transfers?

Not quite. But all 10 clubs would be able to access the pool. Subject to FFA appproval presumably. FFA spokesman regretting no big stars now boosting gates since Del Piero (who cost Sydney near $8 mill for 2 seasons)
