I have seen milk turn quicker than Siggy.

Still better than Fox, though, and think we'll miss Siggy a lot more than you might think. Guy is one player in the team that literally drives the team forward himself. Just like he did when we qualified for the WC.

Just going for proven A-League experience as less risk. Not against giving Musa a crack but we need a more likely option first.

So who could we get? From where? Perth? Adelaide? Wanderers?

Think of a club not many people would choose to stay at.

For example, if FFA does not manage to sell the Jets, there might be an option to pick up a player.

Or, make an offer to Storm Roux once he recovers, as he may no longer be a first option at CCM.

Nah, need a CB first and foremost.

Anyone know contract status of McGowan at Adelaide?
Bowles at Brisbane?
Lowry at Perth?
Clisby at City?

I say we go hard at one of them. Double their salary.

He, yes indeed. Siggy must be on good coin. Also probably losing Lia will free some up. I think it's worth making it work. Investment in the future. A solid experienced CB.

McGowan - off contract, heavily linked to Sydney

Bowles - re-signed on a 2 year contract

Lowry - signed a 2 & 1/2 year contract when joining the Glory

Clibsy - re-signed in a 2 year contract

A-League CB's off contract: McGowan, Donachie*, North, McGing, Uskok, Kisnorbo, Wilkinson, Ansell, Gallifuoco, A Grant, Anderson, Tratt, D’Cunha

* Donachie signed a deal until 16/17 but the Roar put the wrong date on it (15/16), so may or may not be off contract

Could also include Kantarovski as he can play CB but is used as a DM mostly now.

I honestly don't know how I would feel about Tommy Smith playing for the Nix.

He scores goals and keeps clean sheets and we win the league no problem. We all bitch and moan about NZF, he's just been silly enough to do it out loud and in public. And he was there for some of our direst moments. If you worked as hard as those Championship players and used your time off to lose in Honiara you'd reconsider things too I guess...

Plus if he was here it might mean it was easier for him to play for the AWs.

but enormously hypothetical as he is rather unlikely to have the desire to play here. He seems to have been settled at Ipswich for some time...

Yeah, I just put it out there as he is off contract. I honestly couldn't see him coming back though. Seems like he'd get another gig in the Championship even if Ipswich didn't want him.

well spotted.

Heck- I think he'd be a great player to have here, but he won't come. You'd think.Still never hurts to put the offer. Great place to bring up kids etc. etc. Who knows. Maybe he's put some pounds away and doesn't need to think only about the dosh.

That was my thinking, since Cornthwaite is due to finish in South Korea and then likely to return to Adelaide I guess. That would leave McGowan more likely to have to consider a cheaper contract, as they play in the same position and Corny commands higher wages.

Was a lot of talk about Brendan Hamill being moved on from WSW during the January window but nothing happened. He isn't off contract but given he is P20 W1 D6 L13 with WSW, they may let him leave early.

Good press conference.

We're looking to sign two starting defenders.

We need to raise the depth in the team, and we need to focus on consistency of the combinations, the lack of combinations is the biggest reason why we haven't performed this year.

This year we had the youngest average age (which surprised me).

The team has rebuilt, and are two defenders away from a first team.

Ernie want's the players who have guaranteed starting positions before to have competition for their spots.

He also talked about Roy and Riera getting NZ citizenship, Roy has been here for 7 years, RIera has been here for 5.5.

He said its hard to get Australian Center Backs, they tend to go overseas if they're any good.

Used to be hard to get players to the Phoenix but now its easy.

I don't think Krishna is likely to get NZ citizenship in the near future. You generally need to hold a residence visa for 5 years first, and I doubt he has. Probably been on temporary work visas for a lot of that time. The minister can grant it on a discretionary basis for sportspeople (like for Irene Van Dyk) but I think they generally have to be representing NZ. Riera probably wouldn't have 5 years on a residence visa either but could get the Van Dyk exemption seeing as he would meet the FIFA eligibility requirements for NZ if he got citizenship.

Correct. There is no provision for Roy under the immigration law if he does not represent the AWs.

For Riera, he would actually have to be called up, and then NZF would need to make a submission to INZ.

I don't know - I'm not an immigration lawyer obviously but on the immigration website (https://www.govt.nz/browse/nz-passports-and-citize...)

it says this:

  • you already have the right to be in NZ indefinitely (you're a permanent resident of NZ or Australia, or you’re Australian)
  • you’ve lived here for at least the last 5 years
  • you intend to keep living here
  • you speak English, and
  • you're of good character.

Roy applied for his residency when he joined the nix, but has been here for 7 years according to Merrick. It doesn't say you have to be a permanent resident for five years, just that you've lived here for five years AND are a permanent resident.
