Also, of those 10K+ members a significant number of them are league fans.

You bought a memebership and the Knights and Jets memeberships were a package deal - you got both.

So it doesn't automatically follow that there are 10K+ members interested in attanding Jets games.

Didn't realise it was a combined Knights and Jets membership. Also, iirc tickets to Jets games were (are?) half the price of other teams.

Not entirely true. While both sports entities were under the control of Hunter Sports Group it did not entitle members to full benefits of both teams unless you specifically selected that membership option. A significant number of Jest fans gave zero fudges about the Kniggits and the reciprocal is also true.

I'm not so worried about the salary cap.

We will always be a bit of an underdog in this league and that's fine. After all, nobody expected Daniel LaRusso to win the All-Valley Karate Tournament - with only a couple of months training and having to defeat several dirty cheating bastard Cobra Kai along the way - but he still did it.

So yeah...

that's what I think.  The salary cap has basically been voluntary for quite a while anyway

These changes come a season too late for Perth. LOL

The salary cap is optional but only if you have Sydney or Melbourne in your teams name.

So who's the uber-fan who's going to stake out Wellington Airport for the next week?

It's Christiano Ronaldo, surely.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Too bad Boyd isn't here. Maybe we can get Fallon as our religious advisor?

Anyway, doubt that would make a difference. I'm guessing there are people with varying religious beliefs in every football team. A cock is a cock, no matter which deity (or not) they believe in.

Ok so if I look at this logically, this is a player that is arriving next week. Its safe to assume then that they are off contract. While that sounds silly, what I mean is that its not like their contract ends in a month or so with another league (short terms or otherwise)

So who is unsigned, a striker, not too old or too many games, quick and would be considered a '1st choice' option.

There is not many in that list

Sarpong and Roly have the same agent. There's also another guy on their books who it could be : Wesley Verhoek. He's a 28yo striker/winger who is 6'2". He doesn't have a great goal scoring record either, but I don't knowhow much of his career has been up front and how much has been on the wing.

Seems Benjamin van den Broek has the same agent as well. Pick him up as well then?

A lot of players come off contract at the end of July (probably let go before hand if they are not likely to be re-signed), some leagues allow free agents to be registered some months after the transfer window closes. These free agents might want to wait for the best deal for themselves (and their family)

Well, we randomly came up with Guyon Fernandez and the next day he signed for Perth; so we obviously have some sort of power over things.

Sarpong is the only free agent I can find who has any links to our players + reminds me at all of Burns. His trial terminating at Blackburn a couple of weeks ago would fit in the timeline too. It's all conjecture though; no one knows ,except maybe a few journo's like Hampton close to the team. I'm guessing we're trying to keep it close to our chests just in case another club nips in.

Twitter conversation between Sarpong and Roly from April 29th.

Sarpong congratulating Roly on his U23 Nix award.

Sarpong: Well done my friend!

Totally claiming the Fernandez rumor as my own.

Maybe I should move to Perth as a scout?

Ok this Jeffrey Sarpong. Looking at the bible (sorry Jeffrey), Wikipedia, I am impressed by his clubs but his goals per game Jesus H Christ. He is also lasted as an attacking midfielder.

Is this really our striker.

And news please tell how you know he is a religious nutter? I'm guessing that God didn't tell you?

From the short video I saw of him he's pacey, skilful and likes to take players on. Exactly what Ernie is after. Burns was a similar type player and came to us with not many goals to his name and Ernie turned him into our top goal scorer.

Giorgi Chanturia - young guy who was hyped, trying to get his career back on track. Could be a Roly-type signing.

You do realise he scores a goal every 14 and a half games don't you?

so you are saying you'll be unhappy with his return of 2 goals this season?

Of course I would. Burns had only scored 4 goals in the 5 years prior to him joining us.

Sarpong has the same traits as Burns that Ernie is looking for. Burns thrived under Ernie in our attacking structure. Why can't a similar (ish) player in Sarpong do the same?

Ernie has said that we wont get someone who's already scored a lot of goals at a high level. Those players aren't affordable. The player we get will likely be someone who has the potential to score goals because of good pace etc; its always a risk, but it worked with Burns who was hardly known as a goalscorer prior to playing under Ernie.
