Sorry dont get how people think a football team in NZ should be able to make money. There arnt many clubs worldwide who turn a profit and many of them have a shark load more resources thrown at them than us.

Yet for some reason Welnix and some on here think it should be possible despite  the lack of support from many in so called grass roots football. The so called national game in some areas struggles yet many think just because we have a so called professional club they should be able to be making money.

Would love to see a breakdown on the freebies and cheap seats on those high attendance games outside Wellington but they wouldnt let those out.Any way the club has said before its not that important the attendance figures in Auckland as most of their costs are covered by others.

With the stadium development all of you Travelling Circus fans should be happy as they have a ready made excuse to take even more games away.

For the first time since the Phoenix were announced i rarely couldnt give a toss about the upcoming season, hoping i get my enthusiasm back. But sadly in a season which should be a celebration like some others i have spoken we feel as if we have been shafted  for our loyalty.

not many salary capped leagues though. You think WelNix should throw away millions indefinitely for your entertainment?

I would be surprised if Welnix are not using the losses of the Nix to reduce the taxable profit of one of their profit making enterprises.

Even IF that is the case, it still only mitigates a third of the loss, so it's still a loss to them.

No but come on if you really think taking on a sporting franchise in this part of the world is a way to make money. You are kidding, both oval ball codes struggle yet for some reason many think it should be able to be done in football.Sorry just dont get it,for supposed smart business men you really do wonder.Pretty sure part of the initial reasoning for them doing it was they did it for Wellington.Does seem that at times they just dont get that some of the practices and principals that worked to make then successful businessmen cant be just used to make a sporting franchise  profitable.

Have WelNix ever said that they took over the Nix to make a profit?

Okay then "sustainable" the same still applies i doubt if there are very many "sustainable" sporting franchises in this part of the world.

Still waiting for someone to say just why it should be expected that a football one in Wellington can be made "sustainable " ahead of the Warriors and Rugby and Netball franchises which i am happy to be corrected on i dont think can be said are "sustainable"

Dont get me wrong i would love them to make some money out of it and im extremely grateful they stepped in when they did. But that dosnt mean i cant feel as if we have been taken for granted after what happened last year and the support they got from many re #savethenix..

Yes the stadiums closed in December but no way will you convince me the only solution was to take games away convenient excuse more likely.Just wait till next years revamp of the stadium runs into the inevitable construction delays it will be set up for even more to be moved.

As an aside during this off season i have meet a number  of Nix fans who nether sit in the fever zone or even visit these forums.Like some on here some of them have attended all games at the stadium.Every one of them has said to me of there annoyance at the extra 2 games being taken away.It does seem at times that some on here think they are the only ones actively supporting the team.

Something i have often wondered about is why the figure of 10000 seems to always be spoken about as the figure needed to break even.Is that based on the TP they charge and does it also have to cover all the costs for corporate and freebies given away.

Because nothing in the history of NZ clubs competing in Australia suggests that they should expect this figure, yet season after season we are told this is whats needed. It seems at times as if things are arse about face in that they want attendances to reach a certain level before the team has become consistently competitive..

I'm no tax expert, but just based purely on the fact that the Phoenix are structured as a limited liability partnership I would guess that the Welnix Partners are using any Phoenix losses to offset their own personal tax rather than the taxable profit of any other company.

Possibly interesting, the Welnix LP registered a change of partner details in March this year. LLP changes aren't made public.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Have we been told why the Adelaide game has been moved from Jan 2 to Jan 1?

Fudges up so many plans for people who were wanting to go away for New Years Eve & have a cruisy day on NYD to recover from a late night.

I'm glad I didn't book my flights for Sydney/Newcastle as we would have been getting back into wellington at 23.50 on NYD.

We're the WELLINGTON Phoenix

It's because the Phoenix play in Perth on Thursday after. Phoenix asked for one of the games to be moved to increase the time between those two games.

I assume playing home games in Australia will tick a box for our metrics too

I hope it is not going to be one of our homes games being played there. FFS, bad enough having 2 trips to Auckland etc. 4 games away from Westpac was 4 too many.
