This is a genuinely brilliant summary, and I couldn't agree more in terms of the crucial nature of Paracki's much needed success. If Paracki does the dirty work effectively in the middle and recycles the ball to Finkler, Mcglinchey and Vidosic, those three can focus on playing attractive footy and combining with AK and Roy to make what would be a startling attacking five for any defense to have to deal with. Would love to see the midfield being given the license to unleash their full passing range potential, as Roy is utterly devastating when chasing down through balls on that left hand side. Last season releasing Roy and Kosta was our only real way of threatening the opposition, but with AK we don't have to be so one-dimensional ( I guess we had Watson and Smeltz as big men up top, but they weren't exactly effective). Doyle on his day is a brilliant crosser on the left, as is Abbas, and Galloway is decent too, so I'd love to see them bombing up from fullback (providing they are quick and aware enough to get back in time). Add Finkler, McGlinchey and Vidosic to that list and we've got a lot of great providers to whip balls in to AK or Watson. I think we have a really great chance of scoring 40-45 goals this season, and I'm unashamedly optimistic

That's all fine and good, but we need more than one plan.

In the past season or two, not having a plan B proved to be our undoing.

I reckon our problem the last two seasons was that our Plan A was shark.

Brisbane only had one plan and they dominated the league.

Good teams tend to only need to use the one plan.

Not really, because the opposition is never the exact same each week. Some teams are more defensive and hold a really deep defensive line, which would nullify our threat of through balls and balls over the top of the defensive line to our fast players like Krishna because theres no space. In this instance, camping outside the oppositions box and looking for a gap to open up or lofting it to our target men is our best option. On the other hand, when playing an attacking team with a high line, through balls and balls over the top to the pace merchants works really well because theres room for them to run and compose themselves before having a shot. Obviously theres going to be a main, more favoured plan - but every team in the a-league needs at least two plans

I think CL's point was more that when you're a good team, other teams adjust their plans when playing you rather than the other way around.

Yeah no that makes sense, although as we aren't a top team it would be silly to have one plan, makes sense that we have two or more because hell, we definitely need 'em

Yeah, don't disagree with that, I just think CL was making a general point rather than a Nix related one.

Clearly the Mariners adjusted their plan A when playing Sydney or Victory to a plan B when playing us, as they proved to be a banana skin for us while still being a crap team and taking the wooden spoon.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

especially if its not - knock the ball backwards every time to Durante, then after 3 goes of that give it to the keeper to hoof.

Which 95% of the time went straight to the opposition. Still Moss improved over the years, I remember early on, he used to just hoof it out of play.

Question to all of you - in the case that Durante suffers a long term injury or is dropped in place of Fox/Mullen, who would be our regular captain? With Mossy and Vinnie Lia gone theres a real leadership hole in our squad if you take out Dura. So who would it be? Rossi? Mcglinchey and Doyle could be options but it looks like their places in the team aren't guaranteed this season. Or maybe a new boy? Vidosic seems vocal and is great with tactics, or maybe Paracki? who knows really

McGlinchey captained the side against WSW in the FFA Cup, so I suspect it will be him.

I might actually change my prediction to Finkler, he was one of the scapegoats last year.

I just seem to remember years of "Paston out, get Moss back" being followed by a few more years of "Moss is shark, he can't distribute".

I guess, assuming , availabilty, injury recover and all those interesting managerial issues

                      Ital

Gallo,  Mullen, Rossie, Doyle

          Paracki,    Mcglinc

     Krishna      Finkler        Vid

                        AK

Though maybe Vid half a game this week sharing with parkhouse, having a full game in the final pre season game.

Week 1 the AWs and Krishna are away, so maybe should start the team likely to start then?

Mambo

Galloway Mullen Rossi Abbas

Paracki Rufer

Vidosic Finkler Parkhouse

AK9

Out of interezt Vader, have you (or anyone) kept a tally of your bold assessments of players and how they turned out? There have been a couple of notable bad calls as I recall and was wondering whether you were an astute judge of talent or not.
