Have there been any updates on the injuries. Particularly how Hopper is tracking. I hope he's ready to go for game one. But am anticipating them easing him in the first few game.
Nope. MLS teams are announcing their player releases, so could be targets for us given what has been said to Phillip Rollo. They can't play until the January window opens tho.
He did mention one of the players could sign on immediately as a free agent. Do players coming into Aus still have to do quarantine? Pennington and Prso joined in straight away I believe. Same with new acquisitions of other teams except Daniel Sturridge.
Lamine Koné’s signed for Lausanne in the Swiss top tier.
Was a fun transfer saga while it lasted, I guess. Visa-wise, have we been linked to anybody else at all (not counting Dieter Villalpando)?

Depends on the state I believe. NSW (90% fully vax adult popn) no MIQ required now if vaccinated, WA (67%) definitely yes. QLD (68%) & SA (71%) also still likely a yes. VIC (85%) not sure.
Carlos Vela's contract with LAFC ends on December 31 and his future is still unclear. The 32-year-old is unlikely to join a Liga MX side, but has long had a desire to play in Australia, with his family very eager to experience the country. [
When Talay re-signed on as coach (remember MV were sniffing around at the time). Surely some of the discussions he had would have been around the club's recruitment budget and forking out for decent imports. There must be money in the bank right now. with Taylor, Davilla and Hemed all off the books. Vela might well be a stretch, but can only speculate. Fits the January time frame being banded around. And lack of any other rumour/speculation. Thought I'd put it out there.

You think? He would arguably be the best player ever to pull on a Phoenix shirt. It would be a hell of a coup.
How would he deal with coming back to Wellington though. Would be incredible no less.
Certainly be a change from living in the City of Angels.
Venice Beach = Oriental Bay Hollywood = Wellywood Grand Central Market = Capital Market LACMA = Te Papa/Wellington Museum Disneyland = Adrenalin Forest Warner Bros Studio = Weta Cave Griffith Park/Observatory = Botanical Gardens/Carter Observatory Rodeo Drive = Lambton Quay Santa Monica Pier = Days Bay Wharf Skid Row = Manners Street
Basically the same then, with the exception that Wellington literally cannot be beaten on a good day.
Not to mention the bus traffic on Willis St is akin to rush hour on Ventura Freeway Friar Tuck

You got me. Though I've never been propositioned with Class A drugs strolling along O Bay. Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough.

Kyle Adams would be a good signing. He's on a free after his contracts expires at Real Monarchs soon. He's a no-nonsense defender with a great team attitude. Deklan Wynne is also available. Versatile wide defender.

Worth considering and they won’t make the AWs playing in the USL
Though if either have a Green Card now they may not want to leave the US.
Besides Talay likely wants to target an experienced higher quality visa CB like a Taylor.

Can’t replace Steven Taylor if he’s no nonsense! Who would he have played with in the squad?
Those are all squad options, we need to sign guys who will come straight into the first team and contribute. Winston Reid would be the only Kiwi that I would consider atm.

Agree but probably the most unachievable available kiwi at the moment due to wage and established life in Europe. A little boy can dream though

Isn't Winston living and training in Dubai or somewhere similar right now? Not in Europe. He also spent a large chunk last season playing in the MSL in USA. So not that established in Europe anymore.

He’s getting his body right in the UAE, with an eye to signing somewhere Jan window.
Who knows it maybe a Middle East club. But chances Nix I’d say virtually zero. And actually better for AWs he stays up north.

No harm in asking but yeah, he is an unrealistic target. Point I was trying to make is that we don't need squaddies, it's starting XI or nothing. We have 3 visas so might as well blow the rest of the budget on getting 3 quality ones.
im very excited about the january window. Three visa spots available, Uffie has said he is looking to use them, rumours that 2 are pretty much locked in already! if the current squad can have us somewhere in the top 6 and the big names come in and gel quickly we have a good chance.

Today's Govt announcement, won't help attract visa players with school age kids. Though didn't stop Hemed & family signing last season.
Presume Ball's & Hooper's families will join them in NSW now. If not already there. They must be getting jack of it all.
With scholarship deals, are they 100% locked in as part of the roster? Or if we get 4-5 good options presented to us, could we 'demote' Ott and Mogg and get their spots back again?

Scholarship deals are outside the 23 man squad limit. We are at 19 senior deals + 2 scholarship deals.

Today's Govt announcement is just going to bring more financial pain to Welnix's bottom line.
Fingers crossed they still commit to say 2 visa signings. I think it's greedy to really ask for more than that. $3M loss wasn't it last season, not withstanding those 2 late season bonus home games?
Talay has said Wellington Phoenix men hoping to announce attacking recruit within the next two weeks. Will be a loan player
Sounds like smart business with high chance no crowd revenue whole season.
Andre de Jong? Could do worse, but imagine Nix looking higher quality than that, plus it would actually hinder his short term AWs ambitions maybe if Nix somehow got out of NSW, back to NZ pre Jan & March windows.
He confirmed the player close to being announced was an attacking midfielder, though he didn’t specify whether they were a visa player.
Talay said they were looking at loans rather than permanent signings as they wanted players who would be ready to go right away, once they arrived in Australia, completed any quarantine requirements, and were able to be registered to play.
The Phoenix men’s match against the Mariners kicks off at 7.05pm NZ time on Saturday.
Fullback Louis Fenton is set to be available for selection, after making a faster-than-anticipated return from a knee injury.
That leaves fellow defender Sam Sutton as the only player sidelined.
