Think van Hattum could fit his mould reasonably well. Pity there's no further chance to really blood him this season. Sotirio is definitely replaceable, but his improvement has been great to watch.

I've only seen the odd game of OVH with the WeeNix, he doesn't strike me as being quick like Sotirio. Holding out hope that Sotirio leaving opens room for Krishna to return.

Got a bunch of pace, think he recorded the highest top speed in the academy one season a couple years ago. Krishna though would be unbelievable - come home lad

A reliable sauce tells me Sotirio is leaving on a Jets plane ...

Feel like he'll flop under a new coach and system. He's been a lot better this season but still lacks a lot of quality so will be interesting if he does leave if he'll be able to keep up the same form under a different coach
Got to agree with this he is way different from the player he was when he first came. That has to be down to Talay and dont see him having the same success out of his current system. Not overly concerned as have faith that Talay has a plan in place.

Feel like we should open a 2022/2023 thread… we seem to think Reno and Sotirio are goneburgers. Hooper too, though with a finals run maybe we can talk him into a bit more. Gael has done a lot of good work out of position, but no guarantee of returning. We’re dreading Uffie being linked with MacArthur or Sydney.
David Ball is contracted iirc, but his wife may want him in one piece at the end of his playing career.

With Uffie we should be challenging for a title. We definitely should have been when we missed the pen. He said this season he wanted to start better out of the blocks and we did. We had a great cup run, but also we’ve had games of capitulation. Which has been lack of players. If we qualify after all these difficulties and get a final game in Wellington, he’s done amazingly. But we should be challenging for a title.

We need to refresh with players like Sotirio, hard trainers with a good attitude, to complete our squad. Bench players who are going to bring something coming on and are going to push for a start. Some players who aren’t going to be physically intimidated. We need some different experiences to simply our academy coming into the squad.
It’s going to be a refresh, but I want us to be challenging next season. I think Uffie is the best coach we’ve had, though that’s a different debate, but to cement that he has to win knockouts and challenge for the league. Ricki had a couple of sensational finals runs and we were top of the league for a while with Ernie.
Anyone had a word to Uli about returning? He seems like a football man, and the couple of times I watched MacArthur he hardly got the ball or had other players where he wanted to run. Or the next Uffie find. I want us to have a few more of the 4 or 5 goal wins next year!

Steinmann left out again by the Roar, is it too much to dream that we offer to take him off their hands for next season?

Think the circumstances have very much dictated Talays ability to form a title challenging team. Think we are all well aware of the problems he must have had trying to assemble the squad he wants. Would imagine some of the young guys have been promoted before he really wanted them to be. Still think we were robbed of our best chance in the first season of Covid we were well placed and on a roll then had to finish the season in Aussie.
Think its a bit much to expect Talay to assemble the squad he wants next season to put them in a challenging position, you cant expect them to be challenging if they cant get the players needed to do it.

If he has the resources and certainty around borders why not? There is churn, but there's also a solid foundation.

I understand McGarry wanting to go as hes never really cemented a spot in the team but Jets using an import slot on him is bizarre another Ridenton it seems

The press conference is on YouTube. Talay intimated that it comes down to money and his ability to put together a competitive team with the salary cap with what they're asking.

I’ll always love another NZ player taking an Australian’s spot, but it does strike as odd. His old man played in Australia, maybe his mother is an Aussie or similar so he has Australian citizenship, similar to how none of us knew Sail had AU citizenship either. On McGarry’s side, why not try new pastures with a potential World Cup later in the year.

On this season's form he's a better winger than Boumal, their Cameroonian import. Faster too. If the rumour is true then I think Pappas would probably use him well.

He's done a good job for us under difficult circumstances and I'd be sorry to see him go. But he's not irreplaceable. Only thing that would worry me is if Talay upped and left too and left a new coach having to hunt around for a by now quite effective, experienced Nix player.
He's been good for us as we normally set up in a mid to low block which gives him space to use his pace up front on the counter.

With the rumored exits and speculated incomings this could be a squad we'd hope to see next season which i'd say looks pretty competitive. I do doubt we'd get Rojas but I am hoping we replace Piscopo with a quality local player like Rojas, Champness, Krishna

This article from a few years back when he signed with Willem II said he had an Irish passport. Maybe they meant Australian.

https://www.willem-ii.nl/artikel/james-mcgarry-slu...

"Willem II has strengthened with James McGarry. The 20-year-old left back from New Zealand has been training with the Tricolores since Saturday. He signs a contract for two seasons. In addition, the club has an option to extend the contract with two seasons. McGarry already passed the medical examination and the formalities were completed this morning.

Wellington Phoenix McGarry, who also has an Irish passport, transfers transference from Wellington Phoenix, an Australian club that plays in the Australian A-league and where McGarry has been playing since 2014. In 2016 he played for the first half of the season for Wellingon United, after which he returned to Wellington Phoenix.

Made competitive by chucking in Rojas, Champness & Steinmann. None of whom have been rumoured as coming to the Nix. Just on posters wish lists.

I'm not really concerned about McGarry going, he's not really made the impact that we hoped or needed. Replacing Sotirio is more of a concern, and then playing against him too if he continues to show the form he has for us.
Rojas is never coming back, and I doubt we'll see Krishna anytime soon. Champness could be a good replacement, but assuming Talay says I'd expect he has his eyes on future imports to replace Hooper in the striking department. We are all assuming Reno will leave but I've not seen any rumours around this so I'm hoping he's staying for the time being.

Not convinced with the call for Roy to return we have been burnt in the past with strikers returning not being at the level that the fans remembered them to be. Also not convinced about the call to bring Champness in from a training pitch in Auckland. Really hope Talay has set his sights a bit higher than that especially if both Reno and Joshua leave.

Phillip Rollo is the one who's talking about it the most and he's not without connections, so it's a possibility.

Unless we're replacing them with a visa spot, Champness is the most realistic kiwi option we can get with a-league experience so unless we find some experience Aussie out of contract he's probs our best option rn.

He would have needed a Euro passport cuz doesn't the Netherlands have rules for non-Euro players under a certain age?

Yeah but Burns was horrific in Japan, Hooper was rubbish in India and Barbarouses didn’t kick his career into high gear until after his second stint with us. Krishna has consistently been the best player in India for three seasons now. Would he be as good now as his Johnny Warren season? No way, he’s 35 now. But is he still a quality player? Absolutely

From memory his dad's family have Irish heritage - I remember a story about when Mike was trialling at Newcastle (in England) he went AWOL to see relatives over in Ireland.

Big fan of the look of this team. Obviously Rojas, Champness and Steinmann haven’t been linked to the club but they’re all fairly realistic possibilities compared to rumours of years past like Essien, Eto’o, Obafemi Martins etc

In the Brisbane game a few weeks back, the commentators mentioned McGarry could be on the move to another A-League side - can't remember if they added if he had an Aussie passport or not, though

I definitely remember thinking "oh, thats unusual as he would be an Import" so I'm certain they didnt mention an Aussie passport

Bit of a depth chart for next season using the made up rumours.
Obviously some fit into multiple positions.. Ball, Payne etc.
If we lose McGarry, I think another left-back would need to be prioritized over Fenton

| ST  | Waine  | Krishna /Import  | Van Hattum  | Ott
| AM  | Ball  | Sandoval  | Champness /Import  | Old
| DM  | Rufer  | Lewis  | Steinmann  | Pennington
| FB  | Sutton  | Payne  | Elliot  | Fenton/local/Import?
| CB  | Wooton  | Laws  | Surman  | Mogg
| GK  | Sail  | Paulsen  |

Put in interest in Charlie Austin at QPR. He allegedly has 1 year left  but word is, the club would likely let him go for nothing. He would be better than Le Fondre in the A League. 32 years old. He might like the Kiwi lifestyle. We need an experienced striker to replace Hooper.

It's hard to know whether he is worth keeping as he's been playing out of position the last few weeks but he knows the system now and is quite young for an import so could improve his game under Talay but he's definitely not on Davila's level so its whether or not you wanna play it safe with Sandoval or take a punt for the next Davila.
