Nothing unexpected with 2 TBC games:
Week 13 vs CCM and
Week 19 vs Newcastle

one if not both will be in Auckland - I wouldn't expect a 3rd to be taken away from Sky Stadium
As well as week 14 vs Perth

I think it was Rollo that said 1 will likely be in Wellington - Maybe they're just trying to finalize whether week 13 or 14 will be in Auckland

missed that one. I doubt they'd put two games in Auckland so close together.

Massive respect to the Phoenix hosting another game at WIN Stadium as a way to give back to Wollongong for everything they did for us during what will likely go down as the most difficult time in Phoenix history.

Not a fan of it, they've said that it's impossible to get NZ stadiums because of all the concerts scheduled, but I'm sure they could have done something regionally in New Zealand.

Sunday, February 12 vs Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium – 7pm
Friday, February 17 vs Western United at venue TBC – 9:45pm

Might be the best choice for an away trip this season, even with having to travel from Sydney to Melbourne.

I dont get it unless there is a massive increase in attendance not sure why they would take it away from NZ. Not sure i really get why they make it harder for the team by taking games away from home. Coaches and players will probably deny but it must be a buggar giving away any perceived advantage by taking games away.

The only possible reason for this. They must think they will get a better crowd there because we are playing WSW, therefore more revenue. As opposed to playing somewhere regional in NZ like Dunedin.
Shame to give away home advantage like that. Crazy really.

To be fair we have loyal fans in the Gong who stuck with the team while most of us couldn't. Ultimately fans in Dunedin, Chch, Hamilton etc. can travel to Welly or Auckland for a game. They will likely get a good turnout for a one-off home game in the Gong vs WSW

By the same logic, fans in Wollongong can travel to the other 5 NSW games next season.

There is the additional cost of flying the squad and staff to Australia in between the WC break and a match in Wellington.

I think it will solely be down to a commercial obligation that was decided while we were there.

Will they though? Personally I see it as a complete waste of money. It’s no sleight against those in the gong that stuck by the club, but there is no way we should sacrifice home advantage let alone a guaranteed better attendance in wellington.

It's also the first game back after a 4 week break during the World Cup. They may even fly over to NSW a week prior the Gong game, and play a Sydney based ALM team in a friendly to keep up their match fitness.

Being December by then there will be very few local NZ options re organising friendlies to keep sharp. ACFC could be looking for a game or two. Next CWC sounds likely to be Feb-March 2023.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/129410092/wellington-phoenix-take-home-game-to-wollongong-during-202223-aleague-men-season

The Phoenix’s first home match after action resumes on December 9 will be at WIN Stadium in Wollongong on December 10, against Western Sydney Wanderers –
honouring a commitment made when the city south of Sydney hosted Phoenix teams while Covid-19 border restrictions were in place.

Think bigger annoyance for Wgtn fans is they could go over 2 months between games at Sky Stadium (Jan 2nd to March 12th). Though sounds like Sky will get one of three TBC games. Still that's only 1 game in Welly in 2 months during mid summer.

It might not be a bad thing no games in Wellington during Jan because a lot of people go away.

There's some very cheap fares Sydney-Melbourne.
Whereas Akl-Wng fares are now considerably dearer than pre-covid.
I'll be there for the 6/11 game - $170.
On other dates the fares are $200 plus even mixing with AirNZ and Jetstar.

After a second read of the draw, only one game at Sky Stadium between January and the beginning of March would be pretty annoying. I know most will probably not agree but I actually am still okay with a game at Wollongong, having it immediately after the World Cup is just not great timing though. Of the venues yet to be confirmed for the Jan- beginning of March fixtures, I hope two are at Sky and the third one is somewhere other than Eden Park that the Phoenix haven't played at in a while like Forsyth Barr. If it is available that is.

The ONLY scenario in which zero games are at Eden Park, is if they go back to Mt Smart or North Harbour.
200% chance at least one game is in Auckland.

Adelaide, City, Macarthur & Central Coast. Adelaide and the Mariners come to us 2/3 and we are away 2/3 to Macarthur & City.

That's not too bad.

Nah EP is now well proven as the 2nd venue of choice for the Nix in NZ. It's been a commercial success there for Welnix, since nearly 24,000 turned up to watch Rudan's Nix draw 1-1 with the VUC in Feb 2019.

Forsyth Barr is a fantastic stadium but you take a Nix game there Dec-Feb without the scarfies in town, and many of the locals holidaying in Central Otago, and you may only get 5,000.

You also have the additional costs of no direct flights into Dunners from Aussie etc to contend with. You would have a small window around late February (Uni Orientation week) when hosting a game there would likely draw a big enough crowd to break even/make a small profit. Otherwise Welnix loses yet more cash.

Forsyth Bar stadium is exactly what should have been built in Wellington. Much closer to the pitch and actually has a better atmosphere with the roof. Oh and $10 parking in their decent car park.

I know off topic, but I genuinely don't understand why someone hasn't redeveloped the Amora site. Either owners or someone else. Given the new convention centre and probable upgrade to the TSB, it seems mental to not be ready for it. I know it was going to cost the cheapskate owner more than they thought but it's an ideal location.

Rumours are that another Hotel company has bought it and will redevelop... But considering one of the newest hotels to be built is closed due to earthquake strengthening this may take some time to sort that site out
