If Sotirio played better than Barbarouses last season how can you say Barbarouses is a better player? One is at the end of his career and the other is at his peak. Kosta was better but ghat doesn't mean he is anymore.
Because Kosta has played more, achieved more, contributed more and performed better than Sotirio in every season of their careers bar one?

Sotirio’s best ever season in the A-League resulted in 9 goal involvements (G+A), since leaving the Phoenix in 2010/11, Kosta second WORST season saw him net 8 involvements.

Now I agree that Kosta is at the end of his career vs Sotirio at his peak, and I would personally had preferred we kept Jaush, but Kosta is the overall better player.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a better player than Gabriel Jesus, even if I’d rather have the Brazilian in 2022.
but, we're not talking prime, we're talking this season and Kosta is not an upgrade in that position based on current form.

A few first team lads in action today for reserves against Napier - Paulsen, Karunaratne, Old all featured. Napier won 1-0.

Yeah fair enough, you’re right there. Let’s just hope Kosta can bag a few for us this season.

Oof, that's not good. Hopefully they rang in the subs in the second half or something and it wasn't the first team that conceded three goals.

Thats a worry. After conceding the most goals last season. And not keeping a clean sheet in last 3 warm up games. 2 of those against nz domestic teams.....

Our Wellington Phoenix are back home for their first full season in four years, and they want to see you!

This Friday (October 7) from 2:30pm, a handful of men's players will be instore at Spark in the Queensgate shopping centre, Lower Hutt and instore at Spark in the North City shopping centre, Porirua.

This is your chance to meet the players, including their new signings, take a picture and get your Nix shirt signed ahead of what promises to be a truly Unmissable season. You can also win some awesome prizes, including tickets to the Phoenix's opening game at Sky Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

I called our defence as the week link in the squad ages back and after watching all three games in full this week, am even more certain of this call. Really not sold on most of the new signings and think we would have been better off trying to keep Reno and Sotirio and improved our backline as it is somewhat dire.

I still find it hard to work out how this is our most expensive squad ever.  The Nix of 2019/20 would bury this side.  Ugarkovic is a great signing and I think will end up being our best player but we have not replaced Davila or Taylor.

We should've won the league bro, that team would beat the current squad 4-0

Our defence in 2019/20 was good because we had two 6s who were protecting that defensive line. Opponents would rarely find space outside the box because Devlin or Steinmann would shut them down.

From yesterday's game, it was pretty clear our 6s weren't protecting our defensive line. One reason is that Talay would've wanted our defensive line to be deeper than usual due to the pace of Sotirio and Buhagiar. But when you sit deep, you need your 6s to be right in front of that defensive line which is what did not happen.

Your not wrong, that was a toilet seat winning team right there. Probably the best club side NZ has ever had.

F**king Covid.

Those two dates were previously listed as being played in Wellington.

22nd January + 4th March have been announced as being played in Wellington (2 of the 3 dates left open for Auckland originally.)

No venue listed for 28th January game vs the Glory still.

Let him know the ring of dirt is available

I did. He replied that they spoke to the Palmy Mayor about playing a ALW match here but the council events team never got back to them /o\

Worth checking out the replies on Domey's tweet. He says why Nelson isn't looked at (logistics), why we haven't been back to Napier (cricket block) & why no ChCh this time. So nfi where Jan 28 game will be played, too early for students in Dunedin.

Based on his replies, I'm expecting some random location or something in Aus.
Hamilton - long weekend so stadium not interested.
Christchurch - not available.
Napier - doesn't have a drop in pitch so not available.
Dunedin - not mentioned but is before uni is back.
Nelson - not enough flights to accommodate the teams.
New Plymouth - not available and some 'contractual issues'

Basically leave Rotorua, Taupo, Dunedin or maybe something like Jerry Collins Stadium with temp seating?

Memorial Park, Masterton (my old home town). Boutique ground. Good playing surface I understand.

Jan 28th is a Saturday I see, so many Wellingtonians would make a road trip of it, even if an evening KO.

You'd need Metlink's help (which likely puts it in the too hard basket) to tinker with the Saturday train timetable, to make it work. But you might get 5,000 there.

But yes I imagine with logistics (TV setup etc), Jerry Collins stadium would make more sense if you were looking to keep the game in wider Welly region.

What about the Basin? It's annoyingly circular but there doesn't seem to be any cricket between December and late February (unless I'm missing anything not on the Firebirds/Basin websites).

Edit: I have missed stuff, there's nothing on January 28th but there's one on the 25th and another on February 1st (amongst a bunch of other Super Smash/Ford Trophy).

Basin reserve doesn't have lights. Although with afternoon games, maybe that's no longer a requirement?

Ed Sheeran on 2nd February. I suspect it takes a fair few days to set up for a concert?

Play a game of 5 aside on the stage, and put Sheeran (Tractors fan apparently. Big Dave will be pleased) in goal.

Would be the same reason why Napier can't host, lack of drop in pitch.
