Should be 2-1 😅
Cutting them to pieces down the flanks. Encouraging signs at least!

GSR did his man on the first chance with a good lively run.
Second was more about the excellent ball in behind to for Walker to cross.
Maybe not cutting per se, but excellent work no less. Just need to make something of it now.
Matty Sheridan with some delicious delivery on corners. Pleasing to see given our poor set piece record.
Some agricultural challenges from both sides here.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.
These South Melbourne players a pack of pricks. Van Hattum into the hoardings, studs into his ankle, shoving a jumper into the turf and
then lying down having a big whinge and trying to start something.

Odd that we look to cross so much. No one up top has any height on them.

Our kids are doing alright, good possession, just the final pass that's missing.
I'm going to bed now, looking forward to waking up to a win tomorrow morning fingers crossed 🤞

we've got no plan A?
Thought we’ve been fairly good considering?
But impressed with how South Melbourne just shut down two of our most dangerous routes- GSR and Van Hattum-Walker where we threatened to equalise.
Apparently Kosta and Marco on the bench?
Was thinking a CF like Watson would have a couple by now, given what we’ve created.
Lucas Kelly-Heald is confusing me a bit. Thought he’d be clearly better than the opposition, but perhaps hasn’t had much of a chance to shine.
Good early season hit out, but looking for that route to goal.

I like these commentators. They're nice to listen to.
We don't want to be the first A-League team to lose to South Melbourne for this cup. Need a big second half. COYN!

We could try going straight up the middle from time to time. Missing 6'3" Centre Forward.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Paulsen?
Considering the nature of the squad & the stage of the pre-season we are at, I'm extremely happy with how competitive we have been. Admittedly, SMFC sitting back and letting us have the ball has helped us in that.
Lack of a senior striker option on the park is glaringly obvious, we could have had a couple with a Zawada on the park.

Another South Melbourne player goes to the great beyond after a straight forward challenge…
Not a lot is happening in midfield, leading to all those crosses.
We should get their number 9, he looks ten times more potent in front of goal than hours kids.
Rojas and Barbarouses on, as well as Gillion.
Plenty of time for them to make an impact. Good changes though, we've been flat this second half.

Wouldn't be opposed. He's an absolute unit physically and would do some damage on the end of those crosses we seem to be keen on hoofing through tonight.
Couldn't help myself but have a stalk of his wikipedia. Carved out a nice career for himself for having not really cracked the A League. Has scored goals in the Indian Super League and the Finnish top flight.
Does anyone have a visual crowd count??
They said just over 4K, but an impressive atmosphere for that.
Would love to see us mix it up by pulling the trigger. They're happy sitting deep...
All Paulsen jokes aside, I feel like we're genuinely too short to get a competitive edge. Apart from Wooton and Kelly-Heald there's nobody there midfield or up front to have a sniff at those ariel duels.
My view may have been skewed by my fantasy of having a punt of SMU's no.9 but surely some 6ft+ signings must be iminent.

Well, lots of decent players there with something to contribute this season. Didn’t see anyone who is replacing Kraev, Pennington or Zawada.
Would have to be the least gutted I've been after a cup loss to an NPL side. Can't recall ever having a weaker squad facing as good a side, and thought a lot of the kids put in a really solid shift
Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.
5? Making their Nix debut??

The average age of the Starting XI tonight was 20.8 yrs.
I think I heard youngest ever average starting XI. Not bad for a bunch of kids.
Edit - Making the R16, like last season would have been handy. I guess the annual 2-3 game NSW pre season tour will have to do.
Wonder if there is any thought to approaching Auckland about a pre season friendly? Or both clubs prefer to keep their distance until the season proper?

Well done to our youngsters. GSR is an exciting player, looking forward to seeing how he develops further with the help of Chiefy.
What’s the story with David Ball?

Not on the subs bench either. Is he injured or on leave? Or we deliberately took a younger side?
