With the two team expansion hitting a snag and the obvious demand for more games this year why dont they create fiour rounds instead of three.
Play each team twice at home and twice away.
More income for the clubs, more football for the fans and more exposure for the sponsors.
Surely this wouldn't be too hard to organise.

that's a great idea - surely too late for this coming season though.

Great idea if we could make it happen. Maybe we could take some of the extra games on the road and spread the Phoenix to Auckland and Christchurch........

i just wrote a compelling thesis on why it would be foolish to expand the A-League to 28 games yet - but the blasted thing got lost when i went to post. trust me, it was good. it would have been scooped up by the FFA' strategy team in a second. unfortunately, i am too demoralised now to rewrite.
in short, this isnt Europe and it isnt south america ... yet

The old continental drift theory eh?

It wouldn't be a complete surprise if the FFA did go to 28 games. They canvassed supporter opinion at the end of the season via that on-line survey and this was one of the questions.
However, given that expansion is coming in 2009/10 I suspect they would want to wait until that comes in before making any decisions.
Personally, I would be happy with 4 meetings a season. The season is very short; 28 games this coming season with 36 next season would be great!

28 OR 36 is good!! more games more Phoenix, more fun!!! Simple!

would work with the expanded youth squad thing. what i would like to see is more players allowed on the bench

To how many? 5 - as in England? 7 - as in Germany? Or, to be really radical, up to the whole squad - as in World Cup Finals tournaments?

Well, before the introduction of the youth league I would have said 5. The extra spot going to a designated youth player so that if at 3-0 up with 30 minutes to play a manager might be more likely to bring on a youth player.
Well I still think 5 would be a good number.

heck the whole squad, na i just think that 4 isnt enough when there is one keeper who generally doesnt take part in the match

I don't think that a keeper should be allowed on the bench, as it is very funny when an outfielder has to go in sticks when they are injured or sent off. they always look so confused when they put the gloves on

Why stop there Frankie. How about only keepers on the bench, as it is very funny when a keeper has to go up front.

Alan Fettis, scored for City at least once when playing as an outfield player!!!

I remember West Ham having to put Les Sealy on up front at Highbury a few years ago. Not sure if he came close to scoring, but I am sure he was very entertaining.
Les Sealy - RIP.

Just thinking would there be issues if the a-league season overlapped the NRL, Super 14, AFl seasons? die hard supporters will always turn out but a lot of the punters would surely be followers of the other codes too (they are bigger) and maybe crowd numbers would suffer because of it?
just a thought.
just a thought.

At the mo 28 rounds would be legendary. 36 rounds might start posing a problem with the whole overlapping thing tho once the new teams join.
At least one youth player on the bench sounds great, plus a keeper and three more outfield dudes, five looks good. Probably best to increase it by just one for now and see how it pans out instead of quadrupling the bench size in one go
You know we belong together...
