To those who say they don't know why being closer to the pitch means a better atmosphere, have you actually been in a good atmosphere with the crowd close to the pitch? It pains me to say it, but one of the better atmospheres in Scotland is at Hearts ground. The stadium itself is a bit of a state, but the stands are literally about 2 feet from the touchlines (players can take about 2 steps when taking corners / throw-ins) and are VERY steep so that the fans are really right on top of the pitch. When it's full (and the same goes for Easter Road when full), the noise is huge, much more than 20k in the stadium would make.
I go to all the games, so the stadium doesn't stop me going, but I have no doubt it'd be MUCH better in a rectangular ground and I struggle to understand people saying the stadium is absolutely fine as it is, for our purposes.

You mean Frankie Mac?
You got me beat with that.
Should I try entering "auskiwi", "charliec", "bbs" and "7 jobs" into Frankie Mac?
Oh, OK.
Wasn't looking forward to entering 7 jobs into Frankie Mac.
You are still ignoring the point.
1, The existing fan base do that/will do that now.
2, The exisiting fan base isn't economically viable.
NO PLANS FOR PHOENIX TO MOVE
The Wellington Phoenix have no plans to move away from Westpac Stadium.
The Club’s immediate priority is to have the team continue playing the exciting football it has produced this season and maintain its charge toward the Hyundai A-League playoffs.
While there has been debate around crowd numbers, along with the pros and cons of playing at Westpac Stadium, the club has no intention of moving games to another venue apart from those home games played in Auckland and Christchurch which are important commercially and enable the Club to connect with fans and sponsors around the country.
General Manager David Dome made that plain today while acknowledging the club was losing money playing at the 34,000-seater stadium.
“We aren't currently making money playing games at Westpac Stadium, and since our number one stated objective is to build a self-sustaining football club, clearly that is a situation that we cannot continue with,” Dome said.
“However the new stadium management has been great to work with and together we have been proactively looking at ways to turn crowd numbers around.
“At this stage we have done no deal that would take us away from the stadium, but clearly if there was an alternative that made a material difference towards the club becoming self-sustaining, then we would have to look at it.
“The speculation surrounding the Stadium is a distraction from the exciting, attacking football the team is playing and the fact it has won five and drawn one of its last seven games.”
Dome was delighted with the 18,056 crowd that watched the Phoenix beat Adelaide 2-1 at Eden Park on Saturday night but acknowledged it was helped by being a one-off game in the city, the equivalent of the Warriors playing once in Wellington this season.
The entire Phoenix squad spent three days in Auckland promoting the game and were delighted with the hospitality they received.
Dome said the club was now focussed on the next home game at Westpac Stadium against Melbourne Heart on Sunday February 16.
“The Heart game doubles as our one-off charity strip match and we are exploring different avenues to see what else we can do to attract fans to the game”.
No plans to move...while saying losing money playing there can't continue. Bit of a contradiction?

He didn't say that playing there can't continue, he said that we can't continue to keep losing money there. Big difference.

This. lol
True.
But they won't cop losing money for too much longer.
If the build a 15k football stadium, where is it going to be, Petone or Auckland?
Given a pitiful 6k for Wellington games its a big risk to say that just a stadium is going to double the numbers to make it pay.
Someone looking at the books seeing the only time they make money is out of Wellington, the writings on the wall.
I think the cars already packed but it's not too late, yet.

Quite possibly a move to make 6k the breakeven.
Morgan would be expecting more than going backwards to go forwards

It makes me mad to read more threats about moving the whole lot to Auckland when options in Wellington have been far from exhausted.
As has been mentioned, the promotion in Wellington is very average. I know when games are because I go looking, but math days and times are hardly drilled into the mind of the average person in the street. Also hardly ever any mention of price etc in any ads.
Who has threatened to move the team out of Wellington?
