This week's Hutt News -
Page 5: 'Stadium worth debating'.
Page 5. 'Council says sorry for misleading ground information' - worth a peek as this may have mislead Petone Rugby Club

Page 18: 'Arena slammed in MP's survey'.  Hutt South MP Trevor Mallard sent out 'Thousands of survey forms'.  Farcical but, my guess is , it will influence some people.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Not forgetting the "surprise" on Page 17.

Should get some some funds from the club and do a x number of pubs of Morgan in Petone and have some cheap beers specials for everyone funded by the club....that would be a good start...Get some of the players to go with you...have a 5 a side somewhere...get Wayne Smith or whoever with some community respect and profile down there...

just an Aucklanders suggestion...

That survey is obscenely flawed.

Wonder why Mallard is anti the idea.

Someone mentioned getting Allan Hewson on board... http://petonesportsville.org.nz/about-us/board/

I know, but they were so far down the HCC priority list that they were basically a thing in name only.

Basically just seems like a doubling up of the rugby club being against it. Poor form to include both in that statement.

Have sent the MP and the Hutt News a note saying, pretty much, the same,

Both of the Hutt South MPs have adopted a conservative approach to the idea. Holly Walker is opposed as well.

Observations: The 2 most intelligent interviewees were for the stadium, 1 woman was worried about how much it was going to cost her as a rate payer [how much was it per person?], and [perhaps unfairly] think the last woman isn't a rate payer or ever went past the 4th form at school.

More like it was only returned by those who have strong feelings against it.

NIMBY page deleting posts with a differing viewpoint to theirs. Shows how uninterested in a debate they are, as Smithy said.

On top of that, today Patrick posted THIS LINK to show Yellow Fevers viewpoint. It got deleted.

What really grinds my gears is that petone-the-concrete-jungle argument.

I don't think in anyway can you define Petone, with it's low rise buildings and harbour setting, as a concrete jungle.

"Petone is a concrete jungle. Have they considered the Hutt rec?"

With central Hutt being even more of a concrete jungle, this argument amuses me.

Petone has plenty of green space, and even a beach! Ridiculous indeed.

Please remember that this page was not set up for debate or to promote support for the arena, It was set up by like minded concerned people who simply don't want any drastic changes made to the Petone Recreation Ground, we like it the way it is now and have concerns on how an arena would impact on all sport in our area and to locals in general. We have no issues with Mr Morgan, The Phoenix or the Yellow fever, in fact many of us believe a stadium like this is needed somewhere in Wellington just not on Petone Rec. There have been several meetings called around the Hutt City catchment to discuss the Arena and other council proposals, this is where healthy debate can and has occurred but we will continue to avoid conflict on this page. If you were to set up your own page for debate I am sure some of our supporters would accommodate you. Good Luck

FYI: I sent this to Trevor Mallard, the MP for Hutt South - "Re the Hutt News article on your views about the proposed Petone stadium. How many letters did you actually leave in boxes? Is it the THOUSANDS you claim in your article? A return of 200 from 'thousands' is hardly hard data is it? What about doing a REAL survey?"

Trevor Mallard replied "One into letterbox for each Petone ( not Alicetown or Korokoro) household that had someone on electoral roll. Those who cared returned forms."

Done. Sent to Hutt news and Petone Chronicle editors (probably the same person..?). Complete with a few examples, and a tweet from Jono Newton who may end up famous again.

Any students out there with nothing to do? Perhaps we could get down there and film 24 hours of usage at Petone rec, count the number of people using it and time, and then counter these arguments with fact based on whether remaining green space would be enough to service the users needs.
