Adelaide United defender Antony Golec is facing punishment from his A-League club and Football Federation Australia over a homophobic rant at a referee.

The 21-year-old took exception to referee Ben Williams's decision-making in the weekend match between Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar and took to his Twitter account to label Ben Williams the "worst referee ever".

Golec then sent another tweet about Williams, using homosexual references as terms of abuse.

The Reds plan to hand down a sanction today, while the FFA is expected to issue a please explain notice.

Adelaide United defender Antony Golec is facing punishment from his A-League club and Football Federation Australia over a homophobic rant at a referee.

While I think Heath Wilson's got a point, he's really not helping his case:

Off contract at the end of the season, mates with Ifill judging by the tweet, career hurt by injuries. Maybe Paul needs to put in a good word. Not a striker tho, but one heck of a shot from midfield when at Rovers.

Not that big on twitter, but am heading over to Kiev on Tuesday for the Euro Final (Thanks to the Nix/adidas comp earlier this year) and will try post anything interesting I see on there
