I really am surprised at how many people here are talking about getting rid of Alex Smith, rather than Lia, from the starting XI considering Smith wins a freakish number of balls in the air, and quite often is the player competing for headers from goal kicks, and (correct me if I am wrong) has been voted for quite a lot in the MoM polls so far this season.

If anything, we need to put Lia on the bench, and bring Sanchez in front of Smith and Manny.

I'd also bench Ifill, but I am not 100% sure if his recent conversion to right-back is a tactic imposed on him or just poor form. I think Fenton is worth a starting spot in his place.

Going into the season, I didn't see any reason why Smith couldn't better Tim Brown's goal tally. Better shot and better in the air. Maybe he hasn't been given the same role as Brown had in the midfield. But I would start him instead of Lia everyday of the week.

Also do think Ifill might need a spell on the bench, he just isn't having an impact on the game. Maybe some 20m cameos against tired defenders is what he needs to get the spark back into his game.

Well Steiny was our top goalscorer, and I believe Brockie got in his way and took one off his toe. I understand what Leggy means- Brockie scores goals, but when Ifill gets going you see the team lift around him. He's a really goal scorer, but not a talisman. If he was a talisman the way he's been scoring goals, we wouldn't be losing.

Yeh I was thinking Ifill maybe needs to be an impact player/and or move to the centre of the park. Still our best passer of the ball, but he slows the game down. Which with Fenton, Huysegems, Brockie, Totori, Smith, Sanchez could well be a strength of ours if it was allowed to be. Also think we haven't been playing the ball on the deck enough- against Sydney we were happy to surrender possession and let them play, which they did.

I really can't see why Boyd's been given the minutes he's had at Huysegems expense. I don't think he has shown near enough to have been given the chances he's had. Our preseason opponents were below A league standard, so I hope it is based on more than that.

Think we got really excited from our first game of the season, but the promise from that sure hasn't been delivered. However, that said Sydney were absolutely apalling in that game, and we had so much space and time in the midfield.

Tomorrow I'm looking forward to posting Siggy punching Jeronimo, where are the TAB odds on this.....

I would rather our team not get involved in ugly incidents.  Only reflects poorly on the team.  No violence

Quite right George. Stupid comments like that are unhelpful.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Geez guys get a sense of humor, I don't want anyone to get sent off or in trouble, I'm just saying Jeronimo really deserves some payback because he's a colossal ahole, we can all agree on that...

Does one of the bets involve a back sack and crack wax if the nix lose?

Too scared to take my own bet.  I just KNOW that if I stuck $100 on Adelaide, Phoenix would win!

Phoenix line up for tonight's match: Mark Paston, Leo Bertos, Andrew Durante (captain), Ben Sigmund, Tony Lochhead, Manny Muscat, Vince Lia, Dani Sanchez, Paul Ifill, Louis Fenton and Stein Huysegems.
Substitutes: Tyler Boyd, Alex Smith, Benji Totori, Griffin McMaster.

So Lia keeps his spot over Smith who drops to the bench, Fenton & Sanchez into the starting line-up. I am really looking forward to that first through ball from Dani onto Stein's feet...

lols - that's pretty close to the "up you" 5-3-2 some-one suggested
or 4-2-3-1 aka 6-3-1 if you please
Smith instead of Lia might have shown a bit more attacking intent

Still, the guys could do this, no reason why not, if they work hard up front instead of playing old men statues like last week
Touch wood Sanchez shows us he can be the goods and lays on the assists, defence splitting passes and a real combo with Stein

Hopefully Siggy's reading it right from the training pitch ...

"Sigmund, who will play his 100th game for the franchise on Sunday, said the side were fully aware they had to lift their performance this week.

"<b>At the end of the day everyone was probably below par in terms of attitude and effort and that's pretty easy to fix so I think you've got to look at yourself and I think that's what we've done. Training this week was 10 times better and everyone's put themselves about so hopefully come Sunday you'll see a different team on the pitch than last week.</b>''

Commentators not blaming Paston, and I'm sure our fans will take an equal view.

Typical that of the thousands and thousands of people to see the flight of that ball all the way from the boot to the back of the net, Paston was the only one not to.

It's hard to commit to those when a striker can send it in the total opposite direction, those set pieces are hell on keepers
