Actually for me as a passionate fan I have a problem, I'd say casual fans would care less.

A bit of both I reckon. As a passionate fan I'd probably still go but I'd feel a bit weird about supporting a team in my home town that wasn't even allowed to sign Kiwis (as opposed to choosing not to sign Kiwis) except for a handful of "imports". And I'm sure it would make it that much harder to engage casual fans and convert them into passionate ones. The media over here would have a field day with it.

It's a bit like that Flight of the Conchords episode where Jemaine shags an Aussie. Yes, you'd probably do it but you'd feel bad about it afterwards.

This whole thing is just so unpredictable.....and because it involves international politics it is even more unpredictable. SBS has some excellent analysis. They believe that Mr Bin is under enormous pressure fro the Middle East countries who, because of the All Whites, do not have a team in the WC.....for the first time for many years.
This is just one of many subplots. We are just small fry in a bigger global picture

mr Bin has softened his stance somewhat. It is interesting that the latest proposal was quickly removed from from the Asian Con site. Could be they were just testing the waters...to see what reaction they would get.

It is interesting to note the Australian reaction. Aussies don't like being told what to do. They always support the underdog, the little battler. It seems the Aussies have got a real kick out of NZ footballs success this year. Opinion is swinging in behind the Phoenix, both in the public and media.

The next step will be FIFA's involvement....they will be fully aware of whats going on. The Oceania 11 concept playing in the A-League has some very big supporters in powerful positions. FIFA are strongly committed to the advancement of Oceania. karembeu is close buddies with Blatter and Platini. The money has already been raised. They would not have gone this far without a commitment for FIFA to smooth the way. This is great news for the Phoenix as we are not alone.

If I had a crystal ball I would expect FIFA to confront the Asian Con and make some rules specifically for the advancement of Oceania football. This would include no caps on Oceania  players participating in the A-League. A trade off could be the Phoenix and Oceania 11 not participating in the ACL....but that would not worry us too much.

Watch this space.....there are many more twists and turns to come. The Phoenix has not crashed and burned yet.
