Muscat isn't an import anyway.

Crikey! I misread that as "Manny isn't important  anyway.", and couldn't believe my eyes!

Luckily I hadn't even begun typing my virulent reply when I re-read it and saw what it actually said.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Ifill has bought a house in Wgtn now so may well go for citizenship.

Nope, the team bus just left the Gold Coast without him.

I thought it was the 19th? Either way, he needs to be kept til end of season imo.

Ricki talked about not wanting to sign new players this Window as it disrupts the squad etc, and I think the same should apply with this guy.
We shouldnt let him go till end of season. We have no other imports on the way this season and he is versatile and generally seems hungry to impress. What more could you want from him?

For next year, i dont think he is going to be needed if the club is as ambitious as it is saying, or if both Greeny & warner left, because his import status counts against him.

I think that we should retain him whatever. He appears to generally have a half decent football brain and can play in a variety of positions. he;s also young enough to outlast a few of our other players

No sign of his telly on Trade Me yet

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

surely we can sign him up as injury replacement for Pants till the end of the season without any problems?

I'd give him a 4 year contract if it was up to me, but to secure his services till the end of the season is good enough for now

The only problem, is it would mean all our import slots are used. I doubt we will sign a foreign striker, but the transfer window opens today, so would ruin all the fun people have speculating.

I can appreciate extending his contract until the end of the season, but 4 years.
Pants will be back on board for next season
And with no Smith we free up an import spot

Import spots are only any good if you manage to bring in players who are better than you already have...our imports havent always been the best choices

Yeah thats an interesting one. So many seasons we have had rushed or disjointed off seasons. Season 1 we didn't have a team, season after the world cup was quite rushed, last season there was the financial uncertainty. Imports have been a bit hit or miss, hopefully during the next off season we are in a better position and the recruitment can strengthen the team. And we re-sign Manny!

IMHO I believe Smith could do a good job for us and wouldbe quite happy to see him get a bigger contract..after all Warner is not going to be around forever neither is greenie

No, but the import slots drop by one next year and if someone like Killen isn't coming home we still need a striker.

Greenie will be on the assistant / injury cover list, and Warner will be gone won't he?

Although I would have thought we'd have had a younger keeper in at 2nd this year if that was the case.

I guess that still means only 1 spot left.

Hmm.. tough call.

Need more of this world cup year uncovering awesome talent overseas with a hidden NZ connection.

So no official word on whether Smith`s contract has been extended.

If his contract expires on Jan 19th does that mean 11.59pm therefore allows him to play  ??

not sure if he is worth a contract after this year, despite my original love for him. He would be worth losing and risking signing a better player in his spot.

He's not better than Lia yet gets about 1/4 of the stick. Seems to be sympathy left over from how was treated by Gold Coast. Best not to disrupt the team further though - especially when there doesn't seem to be any other alternatives, so good he's staying.valeo2012-01-18 21:08:24

Happy to have him on board for the rest of the season.Think he like many of our players has copped some unnecessary stick.Especially as he has hardly started up front for us and that was supposedly meant to be where he was best.
Had to laugh at someone giving him flack  about tackling, just  as i looked up from the replay here he was sliding into a tackle and coming out with the ball.Okay may have been a one off but it did make me smile and emphasised the fact that we all watch these games differently.
