Said this to someone before,and they disagreed. But it would cause every goal to be contested. Any other decision is of no consequence (except maybe a red card decision). This would suck. So no thanks. 

Again,you'd find linesmen would start flagging nearly everything for the video ref. this happens in other sports too,like the NRL. It's better to be safe than sorry from their point of view. So again,most goals we'd be waiting to go upstairs before we could celebrate an actual goal. 

It would take away the magic moment of the goal,much like DRS has somewhat dampened the magical moment of the last out of a cricket test match (batsmen go upstairs if they have one review remaining,because they may as well,and would be stupid not to). 

It works in hockey, so it shouldn't be too hard to fit into football. Like Trueblue said each captain only gets 3 goes at it, or maybe 1 go in each half or something. I think in hockey you can ask multiple times as long as your challenge is correct, once you get one wrong that's it. I could be wrong on that last sentance.

But why would you challenge anything other than a goal? You're hardly going to concede more than 3 goals,so every goal will be contested. It'd suck big time. 

What about if a match review committee goes through each game and if anyone gets away with a dive or some other such penalisable-with-a-suspension offence the player gets cited and sent to a judiciary?  Or does this already happen and they just do a crap job of it? 

It happens if it causes a wrongful red card.

Siggy got a red card. It was deemed as being wrongfully given, but couldnt be downgraded from a red to a yellow, so stayed as a red. This then meant that even though the red card was wrongfully given, they couldn't look at punishing the dive.

the problem with video refs is that there are plently of decisions where even after views through 27 cameras, all slowed down and enhanced, people are still divided about what the correct decision is.  Take a look at the Torres sending off last week.  Giving someone the power to make decisions after these numerous views will only lead to more conspiracy theorists with their "well one week he gave a decision against Team A, and the next week he gave a decision for Team B whcich was similar."  Currently, inconsistencies can be explained by the fact that referees have a near on impossible job.  Give them some assistance, and then there will be all manner of wailing and bullshit when the still inevitable inconsistencies arise.

Or the video ref could then call the on-field ref and tell him if a major decision is wrong. It wouldn't interfere with the flow of the game but would end those niggling little matters like Lampard's goal not being given by unsighted officals or Geronimo's hop skip and a jump and then dive as if poleaxed. It seems obvious and would save another two officals being needed behind the goals. I think any disruption to the game would be evened out because there's usually plenty of arguing over contentious decisions anyway which usually stops play.

For example in the case of a goal disallowed, red card or penalty the ref could simply call in the video ref to make sure his decision is correct if in doubt or the video ref could call him if its a bad call. Whenever decisions like this happen play is usually stopped anyway for arguing, marching orders etc. I'm not suggesting video refs for most decisions, only major contentious one. I remember there was huge resistence to technology in tennis but when it was introduced and largely ended contentious line calls everyone quickly accepted it.

It would however mean that Man U would lose at least one penalty decision a game at Old Trafford.

Not really feeling the angst tonight. We were played off the park, but we suck in Melbourne, and double suck against the Victory. I guess I had already written the game off before it started.

sack ricky, the league has moved on and our same, predictable old school tactics aren't going to cut it if we want to progress.  Year on year our tactics have been shown (a) not to work against the big sides and (b) not to work in aussie.  We may have a couple of better players this year but how is it ever going to be any different without changing things?

I spoke to a current phoenix player last year who questioned what Ricki actually does coaching wise.  His view was that the players basically coached themselves.  We certainly looked like a side without a plan tonight.  All the talk about a great start is just that, talk.  We only played well against sydney who are a shower, and then for about 15 minutes in matches against Brisbane and 10 man heart.  Not good enough.

Plus, our off season signings (huysegems aside)  haven't done anything to improve our side.  We need a big performance against CCM
