they'll have to be under the same salary cap as everyone else. sure they could get a great marquee but surely one marquee cant make a team.... but yeah maybe a little bit worried

Salary cap will help.

Theyll do well, but that restriction means finances cant be much of an advantage at all in this league

Allegedly

as well as the marquee, they seem to be focussing on buying-in guest players (hopefully that'll screw any team spirit) - but yeah a bit worried

then again, unless their owner is stipulating that his medical research donations go into cardiac medicine - he may not around for too many seasons

I think Gold Coast coming on to the scene will put pressure on all clubs, including the Nix, to contractually lock in their core players early for 09/10. We have a lot of players with contracts expiring at the end of this coming season.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

if they've got some much cash, why don't they invest in a decent coach? im not convinced they will do anything special. im not saying they will flop, but i reckon they will findout quickly that having money does not equal trophies
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Not at all worried. Just as long as the Phoenix take care of their business (and sign core players), we won't have anything to worry about. In fact, Gold Coast might dillute a couple of our Aussie rivals...

its interesting if you were to compare the way the uk super league has dealt with its expansion next year, the two new teams will be allowed i think its 8 international players which is more than the other teams are allowed (im not sure of the exact figures). the rule is in essence an attempt not to dilute the quality of the competition when new teams come in.
i would think the worry in expansion would be as anatelli put it above that a few of our rivals and even us maybe dilluted which would effect the quality of the competition

As long as its a long term investment they are getting I think it would be great for the league.

meh i don't think they will do any better than any other team, if theres one thing that the EPL has taught everyone in the past 2 years, is that simply making a club based on money may get u a bit of success, but in the end nothing, the whole club simply smacks of some billionaire wanting a new challenge that involves playing a RL game of football manager, epic failure predicted

I think it might be good for the A-League - I mean if Gold Coast is over there promoting the A-League and themselves for a whole year before they're even in the competition, it will put us more firmly on the radar and theoretically make it easier for all A-League teams to draw big name marquees.

Can't see the point in worry about them too much, if we have our own house in roder then we should do fine.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Pimps is good for me.

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

I'm not worried. I'll wait until I see their roster before considering them a threat - and even then, by that time we'd have the advantage in terms on team chemistry and tactics - and as tigers pointed out, the guest player thing could help in our favour.

The only thing that concerns me is the chance for Gold Coast and team #10 to woo away any quality players whose contracts end this year, especially with the promise of more game time - but we're no different from any of the other 7 teams in that respect.

Pimps and Silcones are two worthy candidates. Another question is where will they play? Maybe they can nickname Skilled Park... The Swamp?

With the limitations on salary, and overseas players, I think they'll face the same struggles as th e phoenix in putting together a side.  The whole thing about these guest players is that they can't have a club at that time so if they aren't signed by anyone how good can they be?  Romario, Benito Carbone et al, none have really been any good.

Great topic by the way

they (i like pimps)  probably will have an advantage, players aren't the only things money can buy. th other teams will catch up though,  bigg jabba palmer and his hoes will probably only be able to keep their advantage for one or two seasons, think arsenal's shake up of the EPL for the couple of seasons following arsene wengers employment
You know we belong together...
