This might be a bit controversial, but i have to say I'm not as enamoured with Daniel and Felipe as some seem to be. They tend to float in and out of games (esp Felipe), and be up for some games but not others.

We supposedly have a team with an attacking philosophy, but we have only scored 7 goals in our last 8 games.

Would anyone be disappointed seeing Bertos instead of Daniel down the left flank next season for example...

Instead?

I'd like to see Bertos AND Daniel in the team

I'd rate Daniel over Bertos.  He just seems to have that touch in front of goal. Bertos creates chances, just wish he'd convert a few more.

What about the Perth Game? Daniel was easily the best player on the park. Set up 3 out of 4 goals.

8 games ago, and as i said they seem up for some games (the odd one) but not others...

Yeah they do seem to slip in and slip out but Daniel consistently puts in good crosses/corners (he has the best in the team imo) and Felipe is the type of player that can come out of nowhere and change a game. I thought Felipe was great vs Melbourne btw.

I highly rate daniel, one of our best players and i reckon he plays consistantly good. i do agree witht hat verdict on felipe though, i also worry about felipe's touch infront of goal, seen him duff a couple of shots that should at least have gotten on target! saying that his goal vs sydney was mint.

Would love to see bertos in the mix next season, and thats something i can see happening

Daniel and Felipe are both quality players in this league

you say  "We supposedly have a team with an attacking philosophy, but we have only scored 7 goals in our last 8 games."

that might be because about that time it was obvious that our defence and willingness to defend from the front, and through the park needed work

we are now getting that sorted (Rees has helped) and with 3 home games, i expect we'll add a few to our goals for column without giving them away like we used to at the back

Daniel has seemed a bit lethargic lately.  I think he must be suffering the effects of the huge amount of work he was doing earlier in the season.

Bertos and Daniel are both good at making chances the only difference is Bertos is about as prolific as ferrante in front of a goal.

mmm brazilians...Gwyneth was right, they do chage your life
I like tautologies because I like them.

They're our two most creative players.
Nobody else has that flair.
It makes them fun to watch, if nothing else!

If Elrich doesn't stay as marquee next year then Bertos could replace him on the right.

I agree with most peoples sentiments here, got flair, drift out of games too easily, and particularly lately with Felipe he is over playing his hand for the spectacular option rather than the smart option.  That said, that strike v Bling Bling earlier this year was incredible and worth everything else.

I've stayed on after the game for a few days and if we don't want Daniel, Melbourne will be more than happy to snap him up.

2 of the best imo. And George.

I thought, despite a couple of loose options and not being quite direct or decisive enough in the  box, Felipe showed how important he is to the Phoenix against Melbourne. He was the go to guy in the second half. he was the one prepared to accept responsibility to make things happen, to create and take the game to Melbourne. he has the ability to take players on and to open the opposition up, rather than always look to pass sideways or backwards and pass the buck. most occasions we managed to unsettle melbourne's back four and get behind them it was because Felipe had beaten a player or dragged one out of position. I thought he was class.

Daniel is always pretty good. high workrate. good touches. covers a lot of ground. scores a few goals and has the most brutal corner in the A-League (which incidentally, we didnt use often enough against Melbourne).

We need to lock those two down if we havent already.

I don't think you can underestimate technique.  Look at the difference in time it takes Jeremy Christie and Felipe to get a ball under control.  That time difference is the difference between the two, and it's hard to find people in this part of the world with that kind of touch

good stat. his crosses almost and brutal as his corners

When those two have the ball you can feel the expectation in the crowd that something is about to happen, compared to others who just do the obvious.  Agree, its about technique and first touch.  What it must be like to watch a really top team, a Man U or similar, where every player gives you that feeling.

I'll be honest, my corners let me down Monday but you're right, my crosses were brutal

Good point. Daniel didn't have a great game on Saturday but his ball control out wide was of superior quality, and it was Felipe's chest-down which provided the goal.

I think some people expect that because they are Brazilians they must do something magical and match winning in every game, whereas it's doing the simple things well that make them such a valuable part of the Phoenix.

Overheard on the tram going home Saturday night were two Victory supporters saying they wished they had Daniel.

Daniel and Felipe are both great players, who have really keep the Beautiful game in Wellington. They have the ability to provide those touches that can turn games, score goals and win matches, imo.
I don't think we have seen the best of either of them yet

Agree and It will be hard when the skill level around you sometimes must be lowering your confidence.  Also the refs have let the cloggers take their toll in a way they wouldnt if they had a non Phoenix jersey on.

How many of our last 8 games have been away...

Daniel and Filipe are amazing, both so important to the team.

Although I do think Filipe is better playing deeper in the midfield, not up front as he has been.

Daniel is very good creatively..most of the time.  We would suffer if he was not playing..I note that they do not seem to play in tandem now as well as they did early on in the season.  Felipe is too far forward I think.....from an entertainment point of view u feel the buzz and anticipation when Daniel is on the ball.

PS..I hope he gets Beckhams shirt in Saturday.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Yeah the Brazilians certainly add flair. We can't expect them all to be magicians like Kaka or Ronaldinho (if they were they wouldn't be playing in the A-League). But certainly our Brazilians are good signings (unlike Jardel or Patrick)

Interesting that Wikipedia claims that Daniel played in a friendly against Saudi Arabia for the Brazilian National team.

Bones, been proved a number of times here that that Wikipedia entry is a work of fiction.  Daniel's brother is on here and has proved it to be wrong.

We should add that to the FAQ.

Just noticed that it claims that his brother was gunned down in the street.  Yet he has been here in NZ when Daniel first turned up

Id suggest that if youre having issues with the quality of your Brazilian then you may want to change your beautician. Just a thought.

Anyone know if Felipe is signed up yet? Was really hoping to get him locked in before the Beckham game..We saw what happened with Fred.

Daniel is on a 2 year deal though.

Both tremendous players for the Nix this season.  I hope Ricki brings in another 2 next season...  Even if he only continues the 50/50 strike-rate of this seasons Brasilians, that will give Nix THREE quality players with good technique.
