Attendance figures
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

With Joel Porter and Mulligan maybe joining the Nix I was curious how the Nix crowd would compare with the average crowds at Hartlepool and Port Vale - so far this season they are averaging 4,506  and 4,417 respectively. I think our average attendance last season was about 11,500. This would place us 4th in the League One average attendance table with only; Leeds, Nottingham Forest and Swansea higher.

P.S. Man U's is the highest in the EPL with an average of 76,000

That's a very good point WB. I didn't realize the L1 attendances were so low

Another reason for Mr Porter to start packing his bags. Oh yeah and the arse has dropped out of the housing market too so he can buy a palatial mansion for about the same price as a haircut. Although it looks very much like he cuts his own hair to be fair, so he might not know the price of a haircut.

it's not all about crowd sizes, although I reckon at least 600,000 people go to league footy every week (350k at EPL level) .  Excluding the EPL there is $647m over three years in TV money.

Oh and the fact that it costs nearly $60 for the pleasure of watching the mighty Swindon!

Prawn Sandwich Eaters. Thats why the real fans abandoned ship and formed their own club. It wasn't the yanks at all! United used to be for the working class man, not some upper income knob on an ego trip.

I knew that Forest and Leeds' crowds would be larger, both clubs should be in a higher league and even though Forest has lingered in League 1 for a while now, they're consistently one of the higher attendance drawing clubs across England.  Looking at their average on that site it should place them midway up the Championship, though likely when they're in the Championship next year their attendances will increase anyway.

Leeds is similar, people remember not too long ago that Leeds was up there competing with the best in the Premiership - once a team has been that high (as both Forest and Leeds have been) they do tend to keep decent sized crowds.

Enough of that rambling (lol) - our attendance is amazing considering the population of our city and how new the team is, and for many even the sport.  The poms have had football in their blood for generations, we've been oppressed by rugby for years now.

Well he has now been released by the club. The question is would he be good enough if a club playing in Div 2 does not want him, to play for the Phoenix???

That's a very good question. There are scathing comments about his poor performance on the Port Vale fans forum - many who have posted can't wait to see the back of him.

Port Vale have the worst defensive record in the league conceding 80 goals and Mulligan was only considered good enough to start in 9 games.

Let's not forget where Smeltz came from and how he turned out though. Some players who can't play in the style of one league may well fair much better in another.

Ned Zelic is a classic example. When QPR signed him for a mill from Germany, he could not adapt to the grounds. He actually  asked to leave because he found the English grounds were too hard on him. FFS, later he plays in the A League?? Mind you QPR fans never rated him above reserve reserve team quality and he's proved that since.

I'm hoping to see a significant increase in match attendances at the ROF this coming season.

Or maybe instead of lightning striking, it was in fact that Smeltz was identified by RH/TP as someone who could make it in the A-League. I say we have faith in our management, and that they are able to  identify something in the way these guys play that will make them better players in the A-League rather than the leagues they are currently in.
