Unreal.  50,000+ to watch two club games of poofterball in nz!?!?  Merch sold out.  Media interest through the roof.  Staggering…where’s Diego’s Son now?!?

I think we need a win to get revenge, we are good enough for a win and Auckland need to be found out. But I think a draw is a fine result against an inform team and it will be disgusting exiting that stadium if we lose.
100% we are good enough provided all our typical starters are full fitness. We can maybe do it without Rojas starting though - I expect he'll also be playing many more minutes in the second half if required too.

Despite us going up against a superior team on the table I am fairly confident. I mean their streak has got to finish at some point. Plus, if you look at their results I think the most impressive one is the 2-0 victory against a Nix team in which we were not at full fitness and didn't have all our starters. Also, I've watched all AFC games and we have definitely been the closest to scoring against them off that Ishige header.

Their other games were:
-A 2-0 win against a woeful Brisbane. Not much to say on this one, Brisbane beat themselves more than AFC beat them.
-A last gasp 1-0 victory against Sydney who did not have Lolley (injured early), Costa (didn't play) and I believe another starter was out too. Plus they just came back from a mid-week game in Asia to play in NZ. Sydney looked like the walking wounded in this game.
-A 1-0 win against a fairly mediocre Macarthur team. Albeit this one was away from home and I thought AFC possibly deserved another goal.
-A 2-0 win against the woeful Jets where AFC did not look that convincing until the last 20 minutes. Albeit this game was heavily affected by awful weather and AFC did cope with that fairly well.

I just think despite one of the best starts in A-League history they're yet to get found out. Rather than outplaying teams they seem to grind them into the ground with superior fitness, often scoring late. Maybe this has more to say about the lack of fitness of other teams when AFC played them.

As for the game against the Jets...their flight from Sydney was cancelled and I found them in Auckland Airport baggage claim at 1AM the night before the match still filling in arrival cards (poor organisation). The Jets will not have been in their beds until after 2AM.  Not an excuse the Jets would use but explains I think why they ran out of puff.

Oh.  And who does radio commentary for NZ a-league games these days?  And Oz games also?

Pretty sure the A-League is no longer on the radio, except for maybe Mariners games on a local station in Gosford?

Is there a match day plan for this weekend? I recall seeing something about a pub and then a march to Britomart for the train to Penrose Station, with another march from there......any updates/timings on that?
I've been called to Auckland for an important work meeting and my Boss has tickets to the game - just a coincidence - really! So will be keen to get into it (although sadly not in the away zone). But we can still perhaps join in pre-match etc.

Apart from being embarassing "haha we owned the nix!!! One person more!!! 😂😂😂" I'm actually fine with Auckland going for the bigger attendance number.

It just means it'll be sweeter when they lose for the first time in front of their first sold out crowd.

It's really not the own they think it is. 1 person more is nothing short of embarrassing for a city of their size. Especially since the nix fans are more than doing their bit. Moreso than theirs did.

Because the kick off in Jets game has been pushed back, we are now the free to air game in Aussie. Hopefully we don't play out a dour 0-0 draw.

This match is also free to air in NZ on Sky Open.

Before I put the call out on Twitter, I thought I'd give the lovely people on here the chance to pick them up.

I have two spare tickets for tomorrow night's game.
Section 32, Row B, Seats 8 & 9.
• They are free to a good home.
• First in, first served.
• You will need a ticketmaster account/login for the transfer to take place.
• Tickets will be transferred via ticketmaster/email (meaning you can't then transfer them on to someone else).

If I have no hits on this then I'll be posting to Twitter at 11am. I will be asleep before then and will be travelling up to Auckland later on this evening so I will not get a lot of time to sort out details otherwise. I don't need sob stories or guilt trips, it is literally the first person to say 'Yes please!'

First person under this post who wants them, they are yours. Good luck.

How long is Woud contracted for? 2 years? He must be seriously regretting his choices, given the #1 and benched immediately when the young upstart returns via the miracle loan deal.

Queenslander 3x a year.

3 years iirc? I think he’s happier here than 4th choice in J2 or J3.
The chance to replace Paulsen when he leaves is his best shot at a number one keeping gig he’s like to get in the foreseeable future. I think he must be happy to be home, still be a contracted professional footballer and to have some potential goals to work towards to further his career.

And if Paulsen is still in Auckland next season he’s definitely wasting his time.

05 Dec 19:45 · edited 05 Dec 19:50 · History
I'm not convinced Woud is A-League number 1 quality, too many brain explosions. Will be interesting to see what happens next season when Paulsen isn't loaned back (at least, I hope not for his sake).

Perth are apparently looking to offload Sail, could be a factor.

Valley FC til I die?

The Phoenix have a very good record in Auckland:
18 matches played
10 matches won
7 matches drawn
1 match lost

The one defeat was at North Harbour Stadium losing to Newcastle 1-0. Currently undefeated at Mt. Smart Stadium (though only two matches have been played there) and undefeated at Eden Park in 12 matches.

It's cool how they're separating us beforehand, but based on where we're sitting the most obvious bars/food/toilets at Mt Smart are shared between us and The Port.

You can even see how close we are on the map. I assume (& hope) they'll make  The Port go to the one behind their stand but, it seems like a lot of admin that could've been avoided if they just put us somewhere else!

I've been called to Auckland for an important work meeting and my Boss has tickets to the game - just a coincidence - really! So will be keen to get into it (although sadly not in the away zone). But we can still perhaps join in pre-match etc.

Bruh this isn't the old firm. If two sets of fans can't stand in a queue to get beers at the same time without trouble then we should cancel the game and all go home.
