Time for Uffie to show Yorke what this coaching business is all about & another good test for us building towards October.

From a Macarthur standpoint, I hope Uli makes it on the park. Would be good to see him out there after a horrible past 3-4 months.

The WeeNix kids that were on the bench vs City played in the Central League side this weekend. So I would assume they are all back.

Now that would have been a great way to introduce the new players to what Welly is all about.

Ah yes. The team who last season made the playoffs over their next opponent, and who in the previous round beat last season's premier plate winners and grand finalists are gonna be a cake walk... What a bunch of Noddy's

Didn't help that they had De Silva on the episode.
"See what they do to this Wellington side", defintely doesn't sound like they give us a chance.
They sure do like to go on about Arzani and how great their attack is but I think they may be surprised by ours

Macarthur beats NPL clubs easily yet they honestly don't look any better than they did last season apart from Davila and maybe Arzani, if he is still capable of playing how he did at Melbourne City.

The team MacArthur bet in the round of 16 is sa league 1, the level below npl and the third tier of Australia. The team they bet in the round of 32 just got relegated from the Qld npl.

They've scored a lot of goals, but they've had the easiest run of the a league teams.

We've had one of the tougher runs playing Melbourne City and Ufuk has put the boys through their paces in several practice matches. Heres hoping Macarthur are not ready for such a tough challenge after such a slow start to their pre-season with the easy cup games.

My apologies, I rarely follow NPL competitions or the tier below it. I think after how well Adelaide City and Avondale did against AU and the Roar aside from the penalties, I honestly think one of them could've had a big chance at beating Macarthur had they got through and were drawn in to vs Macarthur instead of us.

Still pretty annoying to hear considering these guys most likely know how long we've been around and the experience we have gained compared to Macarthur.

Noone and Davila haven't featured yet for Macarthur. I know Davila is back in Sydney now and training so he'll probs start or at least be on the bench. And Noone I'm not sure whats his situation is. But if those two play it'll be a close game. Their midfield and defense do look weak by A-League standards but they do have a strong attack with Arzani, Toure, Davila, Noone.

Well it also includes one of the Macarthur players - Da Silva (sorry if misspelt). He seemed quietly confident that they would win.

Love your optimism.. MacArthur have some X factor that can cause lots of teams problems  in Davila, Noone, Arzani, Toure Bacchus (who I would love at the Nix btw) and for all we know Dwight Yorke might br a half decent coach unlike Milicic. This is far from a guaranteed win as you make it to be.

Adelaide city are one of those old teams that were an NSL powerhouse and people are upset that they're not in the A-League. They're a step above most NPL teams in terms of professionalism and budget, probably aren't that far off A-League in terms of quality, and have bet A-League teams in the Australian Cup before (edit: checked that, they've beaten WSW before).

So will we start with the same 11 as against Mel City. Those players deserve it. Or does Payne and or Sasse come into the 11?
I'm picking Uffie will stick with the same 11.

  • I hope that it's the same 11. I think Elliot, backed by Pennington will be an easy match against Arzani (the most overrated A-League player IMHO). Respect your opponent. I know. But it's difficult when you believe that this will be a comfortable victory.

Adelaide City were an excellent NSL team in the eighties and nineties but were unsuccessful in getting a franchise going for the A-League because  - among other reasons - of a perceived lack of support outside the Italian community at that time which apparently limited the funding available (this is a second hand info, so it might be inaccurate).  They actually tried to rebrand themselves for a while (Adelaide Force) but this did not work and they actually withdrew from the competition for a while.
Nevertheless they consistently turned out excellent players and are now again a stable, well-funded club, somewhat like South Melbourne or perhaps like Auckland City, although I cannot comment on their financial strength.

Contrary to other posters, I do not think it will be an "easy victory". I expect Macarthur to be all over us early on, much like Melbourne City were in the first 15-20 minutes, and they have players with faster legs than the Jamtards.  Regardless of the quality of opposition they beat to get here, they will give us hard time and I am expecting an even game with Talay hopefully getting Kraev to start and Sasse getting decent minutes on the park in the second half.

There aren't many 'easy' games in the A-League. Most teams are evenly matched with the salary cap. The one advantage the Nix do have is a better pre-season warm up for this game, the longer we play the game the more this will be apparent with fitness coming into play. I also think MacArthur are better than city and will be tougher opposition. Another 2-1 win is what I think will happen (touch wood)

No way is MacArthur better than City they played dire football last year with two of the best imports from the season before with Noone and Davila although with a new coach they should play better than they did last season. Looking at their team on paper they have some exciting young but inconsistent attackers, their midfield is weak, and their defense is average at best. They do have quality imports with Kurto, Davila and Noone but none of them have played any minutes so far.

Last year they were coached by arguably the worst and most defensive coach in the A League and with Yorke is a complete unknown in terms what he will bring.. it’s a new season.. and basically a pre season.. I don’t know why you’re SO confident tbh

I wouldn't say I'm so confident about beating them, we've got as good of a chance at beating them as they do to us. I was more trying to say they are a worse team than Melbourne City who has been the best team in the league the last two seasons and on paper still look to be the best team in the league.
