How is that not a yellow?

Who would have thought all the goodwill from the Wrexham game would be wiped away so quickly.
October might come around a bit to quickly.

GET YOUR SHIRTS OFF FOR THE BOYS

There's 11 players on the field worth potentially starting in the A League next season. None of them are in a yellow shirt

The Wrexham result came courtesy of Greenacre, we all know this.

Groundhog day. What exactly did  the club  learned in off-season?

In swinging corners are good!

Props to Armiento for taking charge on that corner kick. Even he'd had enough of Ishige's set piece delivery today.

You know, I don't like to interrupt a good fury party, but I thought we looked much better in the second half. Honestly, their keeper was keeping them in it. No-one here mentioned that phenomenal strike from outside the area that he had to leap to keep out (missed who made it). If it had gone to ET I think we would have got a couple easily.

None of which makes that any less embarassing, lol

We shouldn't celebrate... that was absolute sharke.

But... to be honest it is what I expected when Chief was resigned.

The players we have lost are better than what we have brought in and unless we sign an absolute gun 10 who never gets injured we are in for another long season.

I personally think too many of our players aren't good enough, but more importantly, I think our coach isn't.

Should be sent straight back out to run laps of the field for half an hour

With Chief having to keep up

Auckland will rise once more

Brilliantly paced. Built through the game from a walk to a jog by half time, then to an occasional run and finally to the crescendo of an increasing number of chances in the last ten minutes and the 90 minute winner.

We're in for an exciting season of last minute wins.

Thankfully only saw the last 30 mins. Job done, flush down the dunny, move on. Eze, Armiento (his left foot is a weapon) & Payne all got mins. Scoring more goals than Notts Forest in pre season.

But you feel next round against likely WSW, this Cup run will end.

Armiento looks good.
Eze has potential. Trying to do a bit much there perhaps, but maybe that’s okay at the moment.

They didn’t threaten that whole second half and we just ratcheted up to 3rd gear attack.

We’ve got Rufer to come back. And Josh. Who else?

We’re still alive in the cup and we’ve now won late.

Big Pennington vs Perth energy with that one!

That was a special moment.

And nice after Ishige putting goal after goal on for players last season he gets the favour returned.

Part of me wishes this one had gone to extra time as punishment tbh.

What's our side of the draw? WSW or Heidelberg next up?

Well, at least the assist for the goal came from a new signing.

Just Rufer and Josh to come plus one visa. But also all our starters on the field together, rather than doing short minutes with the kids making up numbers.

And, God help me if not, a visa playmaker.

Retre for Payne made a big difference. Say what you like about his effort, he's technically pretty good, and that's what was sorely lacking. Set up a lot of moves from centreback with pinpoint passes, and got in a dangerous cross late in the game.
On Ishige, he actually wins a lot if ball in the air, and it's not surprising that his aerial prowess (!) saved the day.
Hughes had another excellent game.

That game made me really excited for the 2026/27 season.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Some things I noticed:
  • Team still prioritising vertical space, often trying to get opposition to press our defenders.
  • Opposition not so committed to press our defence and wait for balls into midfield or wingbacks. In light of this would like to see Sheridan and Payne/Retre carry the ball more to draw players out - happened a few times but not enough.
  • Wingbacks a little conservative which results in lbs or gsr being our wide outlets when they could be attacking the channels more or closer to goal.
  • A little more on the conservative side over all, but I do like the build up patterns.
  • More pressing and higher defensive line than previous seasons.

So negative, well before the season even starts. Why? Give them a chance I say.

Both MV and MC - the best two sides at the end of the last ALeague season have been cupset in the previous round. I don't expect them to be down the bottom of the ALeague.

We are still in the cup and playing mostly academy players to start matches. Let me be clear, other than seeing new signings and how they play these games have next to no bearing on how we may look once the season starts
