Was I too heavy handed with the Sex Panther aftershave?  60% of the time, it works all the time.

I was out on a big night last night, and to be back in the boozer again so early meant that I probably smelt like a tramps armpit.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

look at it from the players point of view, some of them will never have the chance to play against someone like David Beckham - for all the flashes and the lenses i'm pretty sure he's just another guy who loves his football.......and i sense theres some jealousy out there in the football world becoz Mr Beckham has been able to cash in and then some, good on him i say.....wouldnt we all cash in if we were as good? and yes he is that bloody good, you dont become the England captain and win sh*t loads of trophies at Man Utd by being a good lookin son-of-a-b!tch with a wife we'd all like to have a go at if given half the chance.

Sure the hype has been way "over hyped" but thats America for ya aint it? It was always gonna happen.

I remember watching Becks on a video in the #24 jersey for Man Utd against Galatasaray when he was like 19 or something.....i'd gladly pay thru the nose to watch him in real life for the Galaxy.

Going back to the OP. I have just conducted a phone poll. Margin of error NIL!
Question put to two people. One elderly (knows that football exists) and the other a youngster (comparatively) who doesn't know what "soccer" is.

Question was "Would you go and watch LA Galaxy at the stadium with David Beckham playing at a cost of , say, $45 a ticket?".

100% of respondents replied "Beckham in Wellington? YES!!!
"

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Got us talking, got the media talking, got HN to confess his promiscuous nature .

All to the good, and as far as I know it's not cost more than a phone call or two so far.

(not sure if Joe Public is ready for the sight of YF's finest on their screens, but hey it had to happen sooner or  later)

I reckon it's a stroke of genious (sp?)  and yes I'd go, like folks have said it's our lot on the field; and thousands of rugby fans to be shown the way the world is going.

It may attract a different crowd who will go to see Beckham because of his image and fame, but it's insulting to football fans, everyone who cares about the game know that the Galaxy are a poor team and Beckham  isn't the most exiciting player in the world, maybe if they were bringing a genuine world class star at the peak of their ability like Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaka, but they're just bringing an over the hill hugely overhyped player.

Waste of money! He'll play 30 mins and get subbed after everyone kicks him to kingdom come. It takes 22 players to make a game, what is he has a stinker or doesn't get the ball very much? Rip-off prices. Even Tiger Woods showed up for three full days for his 1 million!

Who is Adam Smith?

Three for me, and two for them.

Adam Smith FRSE (baptised June 5, 1723 O.S. / June 16 N.S. July 17, 1790) was a Scottish moral philosopher and a pioneering political economist. He is a major contributor to the modern perception of free market economics. One of the key figures of the intellectual movement known as the Scottish Enlightenment, he is known primarily as the author of two treatises: The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759), and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776). The latter was one of the earliest attempts to systematically study the historical development of industry and commerce in Europe, as well as a sustained attack on the doctrines of mercantilism. Smith's work helped to build the foundation of the modern academic discipline of free market economics and provided one of the best-known intellectual rationales for free trade, capitalism, and libertarianism.

I may be adding 2 + 2 and getting 5 here but do you think this is possibly a lure to sign a major sponsor for the season and the discussions with Galaxy may only be just that???

Maybe as Half Time entertainment one lucky punter from the crowd can win the chance to play Kick the Boot at the Beckham!

I see sweet FA football since I moved from the UK. I don't watch sky or whatever and only see some on plays of the fkn week. To have a MLS in Wellington would be something. It puts the game on the map here and shuts up critics and knockers. Ideally you'd guarantee YF to get in to make it memorable and make sure Phoenix are the focus.  I think the idea is magic. Apart from SydFC the Aussies would be gutted.

Is that pre-release official merchandise? or a boot leg? looks great feverish.

and back on on the topic. Whether the game comes here or not Terry just got some more air time, some more newspaper articles, more profile and probably another row of season tickets sold...and if it does? can only be good for Football profile in NZ.

Cheers buddy, you made my day.

That being said, I never did like Eden Park, but if they dare try to take that match away from us... sorry Auckland, but Wellington is Football City NZ now! They blew their chance, now it's our time to shine.

I suspect the manager at Eden Park missed the point by a HUGE margin.  How does an extra 10k at Eden Park help the Phoenix ?

Well I guess he/she's figuring Wellington is trying to be a nationally supported team, what with the preseason match down in Christchurch, that's enough excuse for an exhibition match to be played up there, and that the lure of extra ticket sales might be enough to convince the Nix that it would be less of a financial white elephant ala Tiger Woods @ Paraparaumu, and that luring an Auckland audience would mean TV revenues. There is some justification for it happening. But I'd rather it didn't

LA Galaxy maybe a crap team, but It would be good for football in New Zealand if they come and play.

And all you who think this is sh*t for the game need to wake up....This is how Football is done now, It's all about The Big Sponsors, The Gimmicks, The Flashy Ads, The Overpaid Superstars, The Behind the scene Scandals and a football game squeezed in here and there....Maybe it is bad for the game but that is how Football is now.

Im an evid watcher of ESPN, a program called PTI in particular. For the last 2 years there has been hardly ANY football on it at all - the odd MLS winner might get 20 seconds here n' there and when the world cup was on they gave Italy a wee mention.......BUT NOW we've got Wilbon and Kornheiser talking about football every night! chucked in between the NFL (real game) preseason and the draft predictions for the 2008/09 season. Beckham and the Galaxy are featured every nite.......who knows....ESPN might even want to cover the game?? they cover all the other "exhibition" games for MLS teams....... imagine that publicity for Wgtn???
