Is it possible to get a home Grand final?

Preliminary Final
The Hyundai A-League 2012 Preliminary Final will see the loser of matches A1 & A2 play-off against the winner of match E, with the winner advancing to the Hyundai A- League 2012 Grand Final.
The loser of the Hyundai A-League 2012 Major Semi Final, Matches A1-2, will be considered the home team for the Preliminary Final.
Grand Final
The Hyundai A-League 2012 Grand Final will be contested between the winner of matches A1 & A2 and the winner of the Hyundai A-League 2012 Preliminary Final.
The team who wins the Hyundai A-League 2012 Grand Final will become the Hyundai A- League Champions of that season.

Damn, the loser of 1st and 2nd place will play a Preliminary Final at THEIR home ground, but there are no references to where the Grand Final will/should/must be played.

Oh dear.

Newcastle 1 versus Central Coast Mariners 0 in 2008 - Sydney Football Stadium

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

What can the justification for shifting the final be?

1) You are No Fans United
2) You have a stadium capacity which is not financially viable (eg. 5000, 10000)

We sold out a semi in March 2010 and would be near 100% to sell out (or near sell out) ~35,000 for a home Grand Final.

I know we are getting ahead of ourselves but I just can't see how the FFA could justify taking away a home Grand FInal if we earned it (be it this season or in the future).

They'll be hoping we don't get a home final. Its a no win situation for them to be in.

Was '08 the only previous GF to be shifted? And why?

Reading the following:

It was the first A-League Grand Final played at a neutral home ground, due to Bluetongue Stadium being deemed by the FFA to not have a sufficient capacity to hold the centrepiece of the A-League season. This move created a stir of controversy and was protested by the Central Coast Mariners, who won the right to host the match, but to no avail.

Indicates that IF we happened to be entitlted to a home final I'd be very surprised if the FFA moved it. Having had 32,792 to a Minor semi final I would be reasonably confident we'd get the full 35,000 for a Grand Final...

From the wikipedia link I posted above Ahmad. Yes it's the only neutral final to date...

I'd be surprised to see a Grand Final played here (although I would personally love to see it happen) the main reason being TV rights and getting prime time viewing in Aussie.

Looking at the attendences though:
2008: 36354 SFS
2009: 53273 Telstra Dome
2010: 44560 Etihad
2011: 50168 Suncorp

I could see it possibly getting played in Wellington with additional seating, or maybe at Eden Park (50k) if they want to really crank a good crowd...I wonder if it'd sell out up there.

You'll never beat The Salmon!

It really bugs me that that story says Heart this, Wellington that.

It's either Heart this, Phoenix that; or it's Melbourne this, Wellington that.
It doesn't bother me. There are two Melbourne teams.  I don't mind being referred to as Wellington or Phoenix and I don't care what heart are referred to as.

Surely TV rights wouldn't be a major issue, if forced to surely we could just play the game really late, like 9pm.

And surely they could never take away the home final, moving it an hour or so down the road to Sydney is very different from moving it to a different country.

The thing is if we had the GF at a full westpac we would win it. Just ask Newcastle, Perth, Bahrain. I think the FFA wouldn't like that to happen either.

Fuck this stupid game

Team that earns the grand final deserves to host it. I'm aware that Newcastle/CCM was in Sydney but that is at least closeish for fans. It would be a big middle finger if we won the pre-lim semis to be told we could not host the final. I just don't think the FFA would do that.

Good luck engaging the future emotional investment of your community and casual fans if you are never ever going to be able to host a Grand Final no matter what.

This topic goes off topic though - is there a thread discussing this or would that fall under that which must not be discussed?

I'll pass that on to my fellow Warriors season ticket holders.

Anyway, as you say, back on topic....

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Why would it need to be at 9pm? Pretty sure it was on about 5pm NZ time last year when in Brisbane?

Looks like this is going to be an amazing atmosphere, worth the trip from out of town for all those thinking about it.Though I do suspect the idea of either Gold Coast or us (less so) featuring in a final makes the FFA very very angry inside. raynes2012-01-28 00:05:05

Maybe - but you don't include teams without the prospect of them winning it someday, surely?

I have no idea what for as we are not the All Blacks.
My mates and myself will be wearing our white away shirts which we bought for match days.

But apparently these days nobody will go to anything unless it has a theme. So the theme this week is Black Heart......and it seems to be working because we have our biggest presales this season.

As to why black?....well thats a secret which will be revealed on match day(hence the suspense, hence the big crowd) The rumour is that the team will be kitted out in black!!!!....but it could be anything.

This stuff is designed to attract the casual sports fan....so if it works OK then great. Kudos to the club for taking the initiative. For us humble fans who go along just to watch football and don't quite get this stuff, its no big deal either. Big crowds=more money=happy owners=viable club!

Should be a great atmosphere......Go the Nix!

Who cares why?

Seriously!?

We've got more than 10,000 tickets presold. That's a record for the club for a regular season game. Who cares if the theme was smear baked beans on your hair!?

FFS, get over it, get in behind it, and be frekin' estatic that the public at large have embraced this game and are coming along en masse to see and cheer for our team.
