Wasn't there a Sidelines last year that complained about people sl*gging off players performances anonymously?. Either way all publicity is good publicity and I always thought it was common knowledge that you could see certain things in peoples profile anyway.

As I said earlier, it doesn't take a rocket scientist or access to the back end of this site to figure out many identities. Just knowing someone, the content and tone of posts and/or similarity to other posters unveils many multi's.
As an example. The identity of Terryslovechild was obvious from his/her first post.
Anyway, done with. Jim Kayes will deny it, but he's wrong. I know this, I was there when it happened.

What exactly did this bloke post that warranted his details being forwarded to Phoenix HQ? Aside from threatening anything illegal, I can't for the life of me understand why they'd even bother. I doubt Terry P is concerned with what the online boogey men are saying about him.
I think the crux of Kayes point wasn't that THERE'S NO PRIVACY ON THE INTERNET OH MY GOD BIG BROTHER CHANGED MY AVATAR HOLY f**kING sh*t, but that a stupid post on the all-important Yellow Fever forums got forwaded to Phoenix HQ, which as I mentioned, is completely baffling. I think we can all agree it's storm-in-a-tea-cup stuff anyway.
However, in regards to his point about the thundersticks, I think he may have a point, but I don't think the pussy-willow whining of a couple of douchebags speaks for Yellow Fever as a whole. If handing little Jimmy and Sally thundersticks to bang enhances their enjoyment of the football (they're there to watch the football, they're there to watch the football...), and encourages more families and thus more people to come along to see the 'Nix at home, surely that's a good thing?
Okay, sure, they're a cheap marketing gimmick and outside the realms of "tradintional" football fan regalia, but like it or not, this isn't a traditional football country and in a saturate sports market like Wellington, the Phoenix have to scratch and claw for every extra fan. Needles to say, the best way to combat this would be for the 'Nix to start an awesome winning streak, which I hope like hell kicks off this weekend...
And the "HUR HUR THE MEDIA PROPS UP RUGBY YOUR SPORT IS DYING HURRRR!" comments are embarrassing. Do yourselves a favour and stop looking like petulent assholes. I love both sports, and think there's defintely room for them at the ring of fire. This isn't high school.

This is the classic example of what has consistantly happened though. The moment (some of) the media read one persons comment on here they consider it to be the gospel truth of the masses. Some people on here dislike Rugby so everyone on here must. Some people dislike Thundersticks on here so everyone must. Some people on here think the Phoenix should be in the O-League so everyone must.
I'm sorry but if you're cross section is the view of 10 people out of 5000 registered on hear you are basing your research on a percentage so small it is barely the margin for error in 5000 people. If you made generalisations about the general public's views on an issue after you asked 10 people you'd be laughed out of journalism but when it comes to here it is the belief of all.
(Incidentally, I'm not a fan of Thundersticks, I'm just a bit Meh on it which wouldn't really have been the action they wanted).

As a space filler I really don't think there would be too much editorial ettention paid to Sidelines...but as a budding journalist you'll know far more about that than me...
Yeah, that's my feeling too - which is huge shame sine it portrays YF in a pretty poor light. Joe Casual Sports Fan will read that and immediately think "Well, those whiny soccer bunnies are a precious lot, aren't they?" - an absolutely unfair inferance given that the YFZ are, without a shadow of a doubt, the most well-organised, enthusastic and diligent crop of spots fans New Zealand sport has seen in a very, very long time.
I think the best remedy would be to get out there on the 14th en masse, sing, chant, unfurl our pasty winter-white chests at the 70 minute mark, and show everybody - even the gliteratti of New Zealand sports journalism who appear to treat hearsay as fact - that this team, above all else, is worth getting excited about, and a generous percentage of that is because their fans are awesome. Simple.

i tend to think its the opposite really - i think you lot do a splendid job out of the stadium - this website, your sponsors, organising events and such like can't really beat that.
in the ground - people getting upset about those banger things, whistles, people telling other people when to take their shirts off, one row of core fans. (i almost sound depressed) - ive never been to a soccer game anywhere in the world ( and ive been to a few grounds in my young age) where a supporters group decides what goes on in the stadium - very structured. maybe its what new zealand needs as people are used to sitting down with a cup of tea and watching some rugby - but to be honest ive never seen a more polite and structured supporters group in the few supporter clubs ive seen the world ( australia, england, usa)
