Phoenix and UNICEF team up for good cause
SUNDAYS game between Wellington Phoenix and Gold Coast United will see the Hyundai A-League and UNICEF team up to raise funds to assist those affected by last months devastating tsunami in Samoa.
More than 110 people were killed when a tsunami triggered by an earthquake smashed into the tiny South Pacific Island, while thousands of others have been left homeless.
To help raise funds for the relief effort, the Phoenix and UNICEF have teamed up to support the cause at Sundays game at Westpac Stadium.
All players involved in the match will wear blue armbands. The match ball signed by Hyundai A-League UNICEF ambassadors Leo Bertos and Zenon Caravella (Gold Coast), as well as captains Andrew Durante and Jason Culina will be auctioned off at a later date to raise money for the cause.
Fans at Westpac Stadium will be able to make donations via text message on gameday. However, donations can also be made at any time by going to www.unicef.org.nz or by phoning 0800 800 194.
A UNICEF fundraising display is also located at the Wellington Phoenix Store, 2 Hunter St in Wellington city, featuring a range of cool gifts, including puzzles, Christmas cards and kids toys. Buy some pressies for Christmas and support a worthy cause at the same time.
