Don't know how many of you saw this:
Sky is showing the Club World Cup footage, but it looks like they are cutting World of Football and A-League highlights.
World of Football has been great for showing NZFC clips, the U-17 and U-20 womens football as well as things like Feverish's Football Freestyle event and the Wgtn Masters Tourney - all the sort of things that you probably wouldn't be able to see otherwise.
They charge enough for their subscription, they've lost some of the tennis (French Open and Wimbledon) and are cutting these things back - where's all the money going!?
If you're like me, and not happy - send them an email - http://skytv.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/skytv.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=c7BXwUkj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=216 - and tell them what you think. Make sure you post here as well, so they can see what the fan reaction is like.
Maybe I'm up on my soap box a bit here, but I love my football and don't want to see it taken off air!

Excerpt of my letter (yes, I'm pissed off):
ATTN: Richard Last
Dear Mr. Last,
After seeing John Matheson's piece in the Sunday News, I see you have decided to flex your new-found muscle and look at axing a lot of the football coverage on Sky. I even heard a nasty rumour that you only purchased coverage of the World Club Championships in order to discredit his article.
Without shows like World of Football there would be almost no coverage of local football and related events in this country. Sure, TVNZ or TV3 could do more as well - but I don't pay the best part of $60 a month for them to do so like I do for Sky.
Personally, the only reason I have Sky is fot football coverage. There is only so much rugby one person can handle, and I would suggest that diversifying away from it and promoting more sports like football and rugby league would be good way to do so - hell, we're the world champions in rugby league - wasn't it 21 years ago that we held that title in rugby?
I would welcome a response if you feel so inclined to give one. You should also have a look at:
That's the voice of football fans - you should have a read - you'd be surprised at the feedback you'd get if you asked the fans a for it.
Regards,
Adam Brown

I emailed them and had a winge... I think pushing coverage on a number of important sports, like Rugby League (which I also love), as well as footy shows that we are not one-eyed like the rugby goons. Good on ya for including that in there Cnut.
good on you Cnut, and anyone else who's passed on the view that we are not happy at the decision
Sky will only respond if enough football fans give them a clear message
and if the message is clear enough, they might re-evaluate their attitude to football fans in general

So it's Richard last and he's at sky, got an email for him?

Im going to be very much in the minority here but I think Skys rugby coverage is abysmal as well, unless you have the Rugby Channel. I think there League Coverage is quite good, in that we get all the channel 9 shows as well as the Fox build up to games.
But yes cutting World of Football is an average decision to put it lightly and I would also like to see them diversify their football coverage. The Socceroos WC qualifiers would be a nice start, some of the big european qualifiers and maybe even some championship like Fox in Aus do

As football gathers momentum, they decide to counter that by reducing some of the best local product the ever growing football mad community and support base in NZ gets to enjoy on TV.
How about some focus here, I believe through the right channels and enough emails to Sky and noise created on YF with valid reasons and opinions they will make a u-turn and continue with World of Football.
The All Whites are well on their way to a possible repeat of '82 and make their first World Cup for 28 years and next year we play the European Champions Spain, as well as South Africa and Iraq in the Confederations Cup......
I join your crusade Cnut......and will email and rant until they at least acknowledge us and respond.....ultimately with a retraction and the announcement that World of Football shall continue.

As they do with Premiership games and a lot of the A-League games and the talk shows with the exception of ReUnion are only available on the Rugby Channel

They've got a monopoly. They'll look here Adam, send you some nice words about budgets or ratings or something, or about how they are going to show the confederations cup, count the number of people and go screw them. They can do what they like fairly much.

Interestingly Martin Freeview are having a go I think, TVNZ had the rights to the AWs WC campaign but there initial coverage was so poor NZF pulled out of the deal but they certainly had a go. Also Freeview have taken Skys rights to Wimbledon and the French Open and I have a feeling have got one of the big motorsport series back. Certainly when they switch off the Analog signal Freeview may be in a position to compete

Tvnz Sport (on freeview) was suppose to have the V8s, but they lost out at the last minute to Tv3. So they may have won that back.
I think it could be a prime opportunity for Tvnz Sport to buy a whole whack of football and shove it on the channel which normally sits their doing nothing.

You can whinge here only if you watch the WoF and A-league highlights regularly.
If people watched these shows regularly, Sky would have a lot less reason to axe them. The way they look at it, they have plenty of football coverage anyway (Phoenix, Premiership, La Liga, Serie A, Champions League, World Cup/EURO qualifying, World Cup/EURO finals tournaments, women's World Cups, Club World Championship...), so they're thinking, let's cut the things that get watched the least.
I'm all for keeping local footy shows on air, but I can't escape the feeling that this is a bit of our own doing...

Good points, EG. I won't be surprised if any response from SKY more or less mirrors what you've just said.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

dunno about that - I pay good money not to watch it!
They need to to bring WOF back to the same day as EPL review or A-Lge review (though i spose its a bit late for that now). SPreading them over three days was no good

The only reason I subscribe to Sky sports is for the football coverage. Lose it and lose yet another customer SKY. It's the economic effect you know.
Not every New Zealander is in love with the demi god known as Rugby. Some of us can take it or leave it. Football is the only truely global game, so keep giving us our current coverage - you could increase it and show the Championship matches that other "sky" sports channels around the world show that you can't be bothered with.

Have emailed also ..NOT HAPPY! WOF must stay ..our only insight on local nz football, and the highlights are the perfect way to catchup on A league ...when you're not inclined to get up at 2 in the morning to see the only scheduled replay.
Actually, not only should SKY be keeping World of Football they should also have an NZ football equivalent of rugby's "Grassroots" programme,(Toyota sponsored it)
i.e. local, regional, agegroup football stories (not just game footage) any interesting Kiwi football related stories, amcam footage and pics etc packaged in half hour format with major sponsor ...something like Freds "Order of the Phoenix".. only Nationwide.
just a thought SKY.
